Version: 5.7.138
by: Mikord, Resike

Announcements:

  • Version 5.7.134 is updated to work with Warlord of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 and fixes the font preview issues.
  • If you are having issues with the fonts "resetting" on initial game load, update to Version 5.7.137.
  • Version 5.7.138 corrects issues with several triggers like Kill Shot and Hammer of Wrath.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

Mikord,

I like the mod, but I'm having trouble with energy gains in cat form and mana regen (they don't show up). The only energy gain that shows is from shifting into cat form (40 energy), but further gains go unreported. I've noticed that neither are reported in the combat log, but they worked with SCT, and as well with a regen mod I've used. Is this limitation unique to msbt?

Thanks for the awesome addon. I was wondering if it would be possible to make a trigger to announce when my target has been poisoned so I know when to mutilate, and also to show cumulative mutilate damage. There is a mod that already does this, its called Mutilation. Unfortunately it's for SCT only, but MSBT is way better and I don't want to go back to sct. Maybe you could reverse engineer it or at least show me how to make the trigger. It would be really cool if popped up "Mutilate!" when the target gets initially poisoned, like it does for riposte after I parry. Thank you.

Shania:

To my understanding, Feign death resist messages are currently bugged and not showing up in the combat log. I believe that Blizzard has said it will be fixed in the next version. Until that point a trigger won't work since there is no message to search for.

As far as when mobs are dazed, I'm not positive since I haven't looked before, but I think it probably says something like:

Mob is afflicted by Concussive Barrage.

If that is the case then you can create a trigger that has the search pattern:

is afflicted by Concussive Barrage

The trigger event types to cover both NPCs and PCs should be CHAT_MSG_SPELL_PERIODIC_CREATURE_DAMAGE and CHAT_MSG_SPELL_PERIODIC_HOSTILEPLAYER_DAMAGE.

Keep in mind though that Blizzard doesn't have it specify who actually applied the effect so you'd see it when other people proc it too.

I was holding off on putting the update until I made a couple of other tweaks. I just got done updating it. Also, so you know you can check the "Load out of date AddOns" check box and it will usually continue to work if Blizzard didn't change anything major.

Shaman totems are considered as pets by Blizzard. The Pet prefix is simply MSBT's default output message format for pet events. Because every output message for every event can be customized, there is a default message for each event type. This can be changed by modifying the format for the pet events under the Events tab and selecting the Outgoing category. This could also be done under a new profile that you only have selected on your shaman and none of your other characters, so the changes only apply to the shaman.

I only put one trigger in by default that covers both Warriors and Paladins and made it say Execute. Hammer of Wrath is a ranged execute, so I didn't think it would be too much of an issue to save space by combining the two. However, this too can be changed in the options. You can modify the execute trigger to remove paladins, and create another trigger with the same settings as execute except that applies only to Paladin and says Hammer of Wrath if you want.

Dafire:

Thanks!

Paladin and Shaman views

Hi, I recently started using MSBT and almost immediately started to like it a lot. Thank you for making it.

I have a couple of items to share. These are merely cosmetic things that you may not be aware of, or if you are maybe you haven't got around to fixing them yet.
Or <gah!> maybe they can't be changed!?!

There is a Paladin spell, Hammer of Wrath. It becomes available to use when the target's health is 20%. Anyway, when it is ready, MSBT notification says "Execute", like a warrior.

Shaman totem damage is output with a prefix (if that is the right word) of "Pet".

Thank you again.

x24702:

As far as Windfury, that's a result of how Blizzard reports the damage for it.

The combat log actually puts 4 messages when Windfury happens. One for each swing and an extra attack message:

"Your Windfury Attack hits mob for 341."
"Your Windfury Attack hits mob for 342."
"Your Windfury Attack hits mob for 341."
"You gain 3 extra attacks through Windfury."

So, as you can see, Blizzard reports two different names.

"Windfury Attack" is the name of the ability/spell much like Earth Shock, for example, and so you can't change that name :\. You could turn of the spell name for all outgoing ability/spell damage by modifying the output message format for that event. You could also turn off the Windfury! that appears in the Notification scroll area, by either turning of the "Extra Attacks" event, or creating a suppression for it to allow other extra attacks like Thrash and Sword Spec to show while only suppressing Windfury!.

I believe the ticks of from Healing Stream are every 2 seconds? Throttling set to 3 seconds as you mention, ensures that you don't get a HoT message for a particular spell (Healing Stream in this case) more than once every 3 seconds. So that's why you see it merged into 2 ticks every so often. The HoT throttling is aimed more for things like Renew and Rejuvenation on multiple targets where you could be getting 5 heal messages a second.

As you mentioned, ignoring trivial amounts of heals and mana gains would work better, and I do plan to add a customizable selection for that in the next revision. For the time being, you can create a suppression for it and then you won't see any healing from the totem on the incoming or outgoing side.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been working to avoid as much spam as possible and it's good to hear about things that are causing it.

shaman issues

I'm really liking this compared to SCT, just tried it out today.
A few issues on my shaman however-

When Windfury procs, I get a trigger message in the Notification scroll area, as well as a compiled damage in the outgoing scroll area. That's fine, but what I dislike is that in the outgoing dmg area it lists it like - "Windfury Attack 1024 (2 crits)" which is a bit spammy. I cannot find a way to reduce this to only say "Windfury 1024 (2 crits)", ie, to remove the word Attack. is that possible?

Also, when using Healing Stream the HoT throttle seemed to have nearly no effect whatsoever on it, even when set to the max (3). Every 4 or 5 ticks it would combine 2 ticks of the Healing Stream but that was all. Is that to be expected?

What would be nice is to not only have a throttle, but to have it completely ignore trivial amounts of healing or energy being restored. Mana Spring and Healing Spring totems are VERY spammy because of this.

Understandable. And yeah, keeping MSBT as lightweight as possible would be a very good thing. =)

Taroven:

I understand what you mean now. Unfortunately, there is a range limitation on whether or not you receive combat events from other players in your party/raid. This means when someone is far enough away from you, your client doesn't receive the data about what's happening to them, and hence there would be no way to parse that data for display (technically there is, but it's horribly inefficient, and definitely outside the scope of MSBT). Effectively this means that what you would see would not always be completely accurate.

Also, imagine how much spam you would be getting when multiple people are taking damage. I would think it would be too much information to the point it might get annoying. For the most part, I'm trying not to add more messages to MSBT's core than are already there.
