Version: 5.7.128
by: Mikord [More]
Announcements:
  • Version 5.7.127 fixes the dispel issue introduced by Patch 5.2.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

I want to use sound notifications but have found them to be very quiet in relation to other game sounds. Is there any way to modify this?

Hi again Mik. Great work here!

Just wanted to make sure the last bit of info on the beta version's thread, in regards to DK strikes, gets confirmed.

You had asked for confirmation that rune abilities were popping up as, for example, "Plague Strike Ready Now!" when an unholy rune refreshed. This is exactly what was happening, and it sortof negated the function of the cooldown reminder (which I love) because I was seeing things pop up every GCD.

goliath:

If you are talking about the zip file size, that is skewed by the font files and option screen graphics. The actual in-game memory usage is far, far less.

The amount of CPU usage depends on which features you have enabled. I've tried to write all capabilities as efficient as possible, but naturally, the more a mod does, the more CPU usage it will have. For example, tracking cooldowns takes a few more cycles than it would with that feature disabled.

We're talking a tiny amount of usage here though. Out of a 4 hour raid night with heavy AoEing (a lot of events to process, so it's a good test), MSBT only used around 10 seconds of processor time with everything enabled.

break19:

It looks like another mod is trying to register a font name with a number instead of a string based on what you posted. I'll put in some additional logic to ensure only strings are passed to LSM to prevent this type of error in the future, but the source mod really should be fixed.

Maldazzar:

Not without modifying the code. I'll look at the event to see if I can get it updated in the next minor rev.

Is there any way to connect the Dispel Resist message to Outgoing->Dispels? (Or is there a separate event that I'm missing?)

On a similar note, is it possible to have the icon reflect the spell that resisted the dispel, rather than the spell that did the dispelling. (Right now, if I Shield Slam a Druid's Lifebloom, and it resists, the message is:
{Shield Slam Icon} Resist!
to be changed to
{Lifebloom Icon} Resist!)

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

My top priority is the lowest CPU usage possible while providing enough information. To be honest, dmg + spell icon is all I need

MiK's is indeed much larger (it's not a fair statement I know), I have no idea about perfomrance though.

Blackshifter:

What do you mean by overriding?

Goliath0:

I wouldn't really say anything. While similar on the surface, both mods have several differences. Some users prefer one over the other for various reasons.

The best advice I can give in this regard is to try the mod out and spend some time customizing things the way you like to form your own opinion. MSBT gives you control over the location and display properties such as font, size, color, and output message of basically every event including incoming and outgoing events for you as well as your pet.

It also includes customization over spam control features and does things like throttling and merging. For example, hitting 10 mobs with an AoE spell will total up all the hits and show you the total instead of 10 separate hits.

I know that probably isn't exactly what you were looking for, but honestly you are the best person to decide what is best for you.

Ironblade:

You can enable the built-in game damage by checking General->Game Damage.

It is something that takes a short period to get used to, but using MSBT's damage display provides several benefits such as throttling, aoe event merging/totalling, per event customization, damage source identification, etc.

That said, a large reason that MSBT provides a ton of customization is because each person has their own preferences. If you prefer the display one way over the other, by all means, choose what you like most.

I switched back to SCT immediately. Unless I'm missing something, there's no way to display damage above the enemy's head.

I'm very interested in this, too, and I too wish that this discussion not degrade into anything less than positive. I'm going to test MikSBT out in the next few days and see if it's any better.

ChatAlertFu

Seems like MSBT is completely overriding ChatAlertFu. I get no error message pertaining to either of them. Can you look into this by chance?

Can you add, or can you tell me how (I can't figure it out), how to add a notification for when Hot Streak, Brain Freeze or Missile Barrage (Mage Talents that grant instant pyroblast, instant fireball, or improved arcane missiles respectively) proc so I can be more relaxed about not missing one of these?

Thanks!
