AuldLangSyne  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.3.5.3

Click here to lend your support!

AuldLangSyne manages your friends list.

It...

  • will remember information about friends and display it in your friends list while they are offline.
  • allows you to write short notes about these friends.
  • allows you to back up and restore your friends list.
  • allows you to synchronize your friends list between characters. (This is disabled by default, mind you.)
  • provides a FuBar plugin with all this information, all sortable, with configurable colors. (You can also use the plugin's menu to configure the rest of AuldLangSyne.)

AuldLangSyne is modular. Any and all parts of it can be disabled if you don't want them around.

Things this does better than CT_PlayerNotes:
  • Notes can be set to display when a player logs on, and in tooltips for that player.
  • You can have different notes for characters with the same name on different servers.

Things this does better than FriendsFacts:
  • Has a "compact" mode, showing all the info on one line, and the note on the next.
  • Colors class names in the friends list.
  • Has options to adjust which bits of friend info get displayed.
  • Has been updated for recent patches. Oh yes, I went there.

I wrote this because CT_PlayerNotes was the last CTMod I was using, and I wanted to get some practice writing a non-FuBar Ace2 addon. So this resulted. Yes, I know, it's derivative. But I think I do a better job than either of the inspirations.

If you disagree, please file feature reqests or bug reports so I can make a better addon.

If you already use CT_PlayerNotes, load the game with both addons enabled, and type "/auld data ctimport" to load its notes. (Due to the way CT_PlayerNotes stores its data, you will have to do this once for each character whose friends you have made notes on.)

Documentation for the friends list tag syntax can be found here: http://wowace.com/wiki/AuldLangSyne

---

Auld Lang Syne is the name of a song, mostly sung around New Years Eve, whose opening line goes "should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind." (Literally, "auld lang syne' translates from Scots as "old long since", but may be better rendered as "times gone by".)

In this, as in all things, Wikipedia shall be your guide.

I didn't expect this to be so little known. ;_;

3.3.5.3
  • Fix an error in the Fu Module when a friend is on Starcraft2.
  • Prevent errors with friends logged into more than one game in the Fu module.

3.3.5.2
  • Remove Real ID header and labels if Real ID is disabled/offline.
  • Fix for Fu module error when the cached class is messed up.
  • Fix for FriendList module error when cached class is messed up.
  • Use project version number rather than a hardcoded one.
  • Make the modules require the main addon rather than just optionally require it. Fixes the dependency tree.

3.3.5.1
  • Workaround for the attempt to index local 'fb' error in Note module.
  • Add the "Broadcast" localization I forgot to add to the Fu module.
  • Fix for is already your friend bug with Sync module.
  • configurable sorting for Real ID friends in Fu module.

3.3.5.0
  • Fixes to work with WoW version 3.3.5.
  • Fix taint caused by Info module.
  • Leaked variables in Fu module fixed.
  • Add [note] support for FriendList module.
  • Info module will now remove cached guilds from players that leave their guild.
  • RealID support for Fu module.

3.0.8.0
  • Fix for error in Notes module.

1.1.78536
  • Fix for the frame renaming in 2.4.3, which was causing some errors.
  • Split the tainting stuff out from Info into a new (disabled by default) module called Panel, which someday I will get around to rewriting so it's non-tainting.
  • Probably other things. I mean, it's been almost a year of it being intermittently updated on wowace and not here.

1.1.49802
  • TOC update for 2.2
  • Split out friend list coloring into its own module
  • Add guild list coloring
  • Minor bugfixes

1.1.45259
  • Switch to a tag-based system to customize the friend list display. It can now look however you want it to.
  • Offline friends are now shown just as faded versions of online friends (see the screenshot). Level of fading is configurable.
  • Modules can now all run without the core. So if all you want is friend list syncing, you can have just that.
  • Use libraries for friends and guild list.
  • Fix info gathering for unguilded /who results.

1.1.43668
  • Adjusted sorting in the plugin to: name>level>class>(zone|rank|online)
  • Alt-clicking on the fubar plugin will open the guild frame.
  • Stop notes flowing down in the fubar plugin if the character in question has no note.
  • Don't try to add the current character to the friends list while syncing.

1.1.42583
  • Modularize.
  • Add FuBar plugin.
  • Major changes were made. This might be subtly broken in some way. Other addons that think they know things about ALS' interior no longer will.

1.1.36304
  • Update for 2.1.
  • Bugfix when syncing friends.

1.1.29385
  • Add friend list syncing. (If you have a total of more than 50 friends between all your characters, this will complain and not work ideally.)
  • Add new slash-commands:
    • /fnote. Usage: "/fnote <player name> <note text>". Adds a note to an arbitrary player name. This note will appear in that player's tooltip and whenever they're /who'd. (If called with just "/fnote <player name>", all the notes for that player will print out.)
    • /fnotedel, for removing a generic note from a player. Usage: "/fnotedel <playername>".
  • Fix CT_PlayerNotes import (now part of CT_Core), patch provided by Sekuyo.

1.1.25615 - Add a Spanish translation by Shiftos. Update for new TOC version number.

1.1.19032 - Final WoW2.0 compatibility updates.

1.1.18659 - Various WoW2.0/TBC updates. zhCN localization. Fix PvP rank number display in compact mode. Get rid of delay on opening the friends list.
1.1.15514 - Scan /who results for updated friend information. Streamlined the scanning of frequently fired events. Reorganized the options slightly (moved several items under /auld data). Should be ready for Burning Crusade, for all you beta players.
1.1.12320 - Fixed a typo when importing ignore/guild notes from CT_PlayerNotes.
1.1.11323 - Added option to backup and restore friends lists. Options are under '/auld backup'.
1.1.10285 - Added friend note display when friends sign on. Added notes in player tooltips. Added options for both these under "/auld show".
1.1.10156 - Initial release on WoWI.

Error is fixed now, thanks for that! However, the player's on my friend list that have been offline for a while or offline for quite such a time that the info no longer appear... is showing as "0 Unknown"

One suggestion to go along with this post:

Would it be possible to get it so that note tooltips created through ALS could span vertically rather than horizontally? I know that'd have to be a lot of text but I am using it in a rather unconventional way (noting items I want for myself in my own guild based note via ALS).

Others might actually have multiple things to say about someone and perhaps vertical spanning might help as opposed to horizontal (as is now). Currently the tooltip spans across my entire screen, left to right.

ALSO: Perhaps a tag that player's can use to have the note or a portion of the note exempt from showing in a player's tooltip?

Having something like [ignoreptt: blabla, bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla] and anything contained within the brackets and proceeding the tag "ignoreptt:" would be exempt from showing in a player's tooltip on mouseover, but still appear in the note, minus the brackets and the "ignoreptt:" displayed?

Fixed it. I have been using WAU for a while to update my other Ace addons and so I thought the updater would fix this. Figures out, that the updater was installed misnamed files. I had to go in to the "lib" folder and rename most of the folders in there by adding "-2.0" or "-2.1" or "-2.2" to the ends of the names. The numbers correspond to the files inside the folder, so say AceAddon had AceAddon-2.2.lua and AceAddon-2.2.toc, the folder had to be renamed to Aceaddon-2.2. It wasn't that the libraries were old, its just the addon couldn't find the files it needed because they didn't have the right names. So now it works and I'm happy. May want to look into this in further releases.

Working fine here.

It just looks like one your libraries is out of date.

I would simply just download and install WinAceUpdated (or MacAceUpdater if you have a Mac, like me) and allow it to install all the latest versions of your existing addons that utilize Ace. You simply hit the "Select all outdated" button, then press the Install button and it's done.

What's more, I'd say if you're not attached to your addons or any of your savedvariables (LootLink, Auctioneer, etc.) then just delete your WTF and WDB folder (\Cache\WDB), download all the latest versions of your Interface addons, and just start over. Although not entirely necessary, it's the "easiest, one fel swoop" solution that will more than likely eliminate all possibility of further issues.

I would think WAU would work for you but in case it does not, you can either hunt down the outdated Ace addon or simply start from scratch.

ALS works fine for me here and I've a TON of random addons.

Well, I reset and checked all of my WoW files, and then I disabled Atlasloot, and I got more errors. But they are a bit different.

Did that. Came up with more errors. I disabled everything including Swatter, which is my error reporting mod. ALS just doesnt work. More stuff about a Library not existing and more "In Main Chunk" errors.

I have deleted the LUA several times, uninstalled and reinstalled ALS and still nada. Any ideas?
Disable AtlasLoot and see if that fixes it. If so, then update AtlasLoot as it will contian the most updated library you can have in conjunction with ALS.

Might want to check out SendSelf, I was running out of room on my friends list for all my alts and then stumbled across this on the Wowace file site.

BetterFriends / BetterGuild Support

I just loaded up BetterFriends (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=7314) and BetterGuild (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=7315), and they don't work to add notes with AuldLangSyn

I posted a note on his side as well, because I'm not sure exactly where the support would need to come from, but it would be really nice if these would all work together!

ALS works, but you can't edit the notes. When clicking on the note icon in the Friends/Guild window, it errors out:

Code:
[2007/06/28 17:03:38-296-x1]: AuldLangSyne_Note\Note.lua:387: bad argument #2 to 'format' (string expected, got nil)

Transferred friends

Some friends of mine transferred off the server with their guild. AuldLangSyne kept trying to re-add them during its syncing phase, so I got error messages every login. I finally had to go edit the SavedVariables file by hand to delete them.
