Grid  Updated this week!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 6.0.2.1679-beta
by: Phanx, Greltok, Pastamancer
Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Please do not use the Bug/Feature buttons to the right, or send me PMs to ask for help, report problems, or request features. Use the links below instead!

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

IMPORTANT: If you did not download Grid from this page, do not post on this page about any problems you encounter with it. Copies of Grid obtained from anywhere other than the official download pages on WoWInterface and WowAce/Curse are not supported at all.

Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

Thx

I think there's a plugin that does that, or you could set up different profiles for each group size and switch between them (either by hand through the menu, by hand with a macro, or automatically with a plugin). It's not something the core will do, though.

Does the Grid project accept donations?
Not currently, no. Given the fact that I'm not the original author, and the number of people who contribute, or have contributed, to Grid's development and maintenance, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to take donations just for myself, and coming up with a fair way to split donations between everyone involved would just be too much work. We appreciate the thought, though.

That said, if you use the Curse Client to update Grid, all of the listed project members get author reward points, which we can redeem for Amazon.com gift cards.

OK I have a question. Now is there a way to keep the frame the same size no matter if your solo or in a 40man group and adjust the unit frames to fit that particular frame. Like if your in a 40 man raid the unit frames will adjust themselves to a smaller size in order to fit the assigned frame width and height, and will make the unit frames config if your in a solo, or in a 5 man party. I just want the frame size to be the same size for each different type of party/raid I encounter, so I am not spending 5 minutes adjusting everything before a raid or a battleground.

Does the Grid project accept donations? I see you don't have a Donate button, unlike a number of the other addon projects. I'd like to be able offer some small token of support beyond a written thank you.

Grid is one of a handful of addons that, as far as I'm concerned, has perfectly nailed its niche. Between the no-bloat core and the almost "if you can imagine it, you can have it" extendability, I've never found myself wistfully wishing I could disable something I don't need, or wanting for a feature I do. Frankly it does its job so well that I'm just not sure if I'd be willing to continue healing if I were ever forced to fallback on the alternatives that manage to do too much and too little all at once. Bottom-line: Grid's minimalist core + plugins for key-but-situational features approach is just a superior design to the all-in-one feature rigidity of the other raid frame addons.

Well, I guess this morphed into a note anyway, so-- thank you!

And for the plugin authors who make all the extra features available-- thank you too!

First, thank you for this amazing addon! It makes healing a dream and there is no replacement for me.

I have a question though, I'm noticing a different layout behavior than before the patch. When I have Grid show pets (on 10man) there's an empty row between the raid members and the pets, as such:

R R R R R
R R R R R
(empty)
P P

This empty row was not there previous to the patch. I need to get rid of this extra row for it to fit properly into my custom UI. I can't find an option in relation to it nor a plugin that might be doing it. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

As mentioned in my first post, you need to set the layout for each group type to "None". So after you create the "Hidden" profile, go through each Grid > Layout > Solo/Party/10-Player/25-Player/Battleground/Arena Layout, and set each one to "None".

First, create the profile. It'll be easiest if you're in your DPS spec when you do this.
  • Grid > Profiles > New > Type "Hidden" and press Enter.
Then, switch back to your normal profile.
  • Grid > Profiles > Existing Profiles > Choose whichever profile you normally use. It's probably "Default".
Then, on each character you want to "hide" Grid for your second spec, log on, get into your DPS spec, and do this:
  • Grid > Profiles > Check "Enable dual profile"
  • Grid > Profiles > Dual profile > Select the "Hidden" profile you created in Step 1.
As for click-casting, have you tried Clique? It enables click-casting for Grid and all other unit frames, including the default Blizzard ones, and has a very easy-to-use interface for setting up click-cast bindings.
