Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 5.4.1.1628
by: Phanx, Greltok, Pastamancer
Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.

Please do not use the Bug/Feature buttons to the right, or send me PMs asking for help, reporting bugs, or requesting features. Use the links below instead!

The compact grid of units lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

IMPORTANT: If you are using any version of Grid other than the one posted on this page — such as an alpha version from WowAce — please do not post on this page about any problems you encounter with it. Alpha versions are development snapshots, are not officially supported, and may be buggy or broken, delete your settings, or crash your game. The release (and sometimes beta) versions posted to WoWInterface.com and Curse.com are actually tested.

✤ Problem with a plugin?
Contact the plugin’s author for help. The Grid team cannot provide support for third-party plugins.

✤ Have a suggestion?
Feel free to tell us about your idea, but please make sure there isn’t already a plugin that adds the feature you’re looking for first!

✤ Questions? Comments?

Language Support

Grid is compatible with English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文 game clients.

Grid is translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano (partial), Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

Hint: The WowAce interface for adding translations is rather cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into Notepad, fill in your translations, and then paste the new data back into the system using the Import function.

Credits

Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

Version 5.1.0.1553

Well, my post you're referring to was talking about something rather different than what you're talking about.

That said, though, I'm not interested in adding options to the core to add backdrops or borders to individual frames either. Especially for backdrops, what would be the point? The frame is a solid square; even when health is depleted, you see the health bar background. You never see an individual frame's backdrop.

As for borders, the frame border is an important part of the frame which is used to convey status information; most "texture" style borders are too thin or not solid enough to usefully display this information, so replacing the existing border would not be an acceptable course of action.

If you mean a second border surrounding the actual border, well, in a normal Grid configuration there's not enough space between frames where you'd even be able to see that. Could you post a screenshot of your configuration?

Despite all that, for what you're trying to do, creating 40 separate panels in kgPanels is indeed an inefficient and ridiculous solution. Creating a simple frame generator in Lua, and then looping through each Grid frame and generating an identical frame for each Grid frame, would be much less work, both in initial setup and in future maintenance.

Ya I was talking about bordering each individual frame, which sadly you were not interested in making possible.

Most people don't want big sections of empty space covered up with panels, so this won't change.

If you want a fixed sized panel, the simplest thing to do would be to disable Grid's background frame (set the color's opacity to 0, for both the background and the border), and then create a separate artwork panel anchored behind GridLayoutFrame. You could either just create a panel yourself in Lua, or use an addon like kgPanels.

That's exactly how I did it but it would be nice to be able to border/background each frame via grid ( set one for all), since that would save on creating 40 panels via KGpanels which is a bit ridiculous and inefficient.

How do I make it so that grid is always in 25-man mode?

I set all the solo/party/10man/etc to 25 mode (no pets), but the box still dynamically changes to the group size. I want a static sized grid set at 25-man size at all times. No dynamic sizing.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Unless you've made some radical changes, more bright color on a unit frame means that unit is lower on health. If you've got two frames with similar amounts of bright color, but one of them is blue (mage), and one of them is brown (warrior) with a red tile in the corner (aggro), it should be fairly obvious which unit needs a heal more. If your guildmates are having trouble understanding these basic statuses, I'm not sure what to tell them. Grid is designed to provide information, not to play the game for you by telling you what abilities to use, when to use them, and who to use them on. Having an addon tell you who to heal makes you a worse healer, not a better one.

1.30300.1290
  • Upgraded to LibHealComm-4.0
  • Updated the By Class layouts to be more practical for modern raid sizes
  • Added default settings for Earth Shield
  • Fixed statusbar texture tiling in WoW 3.3.3
  • Fixed several minor bugs in the incoming heals status module
  • Fixed a bug that occasionally prevented available spell ranges from being detected on login
  • Removed global references for core modules – you will need to update your plugins to work with this release!

Most plugins have already been updated to work with the changes in this release, so you should check that you have the latest version of any plugins you use.

If a plugin generates an error along the lines of “attempt to access GridStatus (a nil value)”, and no newer versions of that plugin are available (make sure you've checked over on Curse too), then you will not be able to use that plugin until its author updates it. There shouldn't be very many of these, though.

Re: Background Color

No. The darker of the background/foreground is derived from the lighter one. So, if you're using the "Invert health bar colors" option to make the foreground lighter than the background, and then set the foreground to 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, the background color will be derived as 0.5 * 0.2, 0.5 * 0.2, 0.5 * 0.2, which works out to 0.1, 0.1, 0.1, which looks a lot like black.

The ability to use a custom health color was kind of an afterthought; I don't have any plans to add more options along that vein, since "dark on dark" is not what Grid was designed for, so if the existing options don't do what you want, you'll have to get your hands dirty and modify the code in your local copy.

Background Color

Hello, just wondering, is there a way to change the background color of the units (also known as the deficit section of the unit)? I can change the unit health section, but for some reason the background color (deficit) is just black. Thanks!

There are several plugins that add more icon indicators, and they're not hard to find, though it doesn't look like any are hosted on WoWI. Searching on Google for "wow grid icons" brought up two on the first page of results. Searching on CurseForge for "grid icons" brought up four results on the first page.

The major issue I have with Grid is the inability to configure it to show buff icons versus "green/yellow/red" dots upon the corners of the frames. (Sacred Shield, Beacon of Light, etc.) I loathe using other mods to visually track my healing in a raid, especially during heroic-mode encounters, however I need to be able to see an icon and possibly even a timer for when mentioned buffs like this are about to expire.

Do you happen to be aware of any modules that might support these kind of features for Grid?
