Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 5.4.7.1653
by: Phanx, Greltok, Pastamancer
Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.

Please do not use the Bug/Feature buttons to the right, or send me PMs asking for help, reporting bugs, or requesting features. Use the links below instead!

The compact grid of units lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Need Help?

IMPORTANT: If you are using any version of Grid other than the one posted on this page — such as an alpha version from WowAce — please do not post on this page about any problems you encounter with it. Alpha versions are development snapshots, are not officially supported, and may be buggy or broken, delete your settings, or crash your game. The release (and sometimes beta) versions posted to WoWInterface.com and Curse.com are actually tested.

✤ Problem with a plugin?
Contact the plugin’s author for help. The Grid team cannot provide support for third-party plugins.

✤ Have a suggestion?
Feel free to tell us about your idea, but please make sure there isn’t already a plugin that adds the feature you’re looking for first!

✤ Questions? Comments?
Post a comment on this page, or post in our WowAce forum thread.

Language Support

Grid is compatible with English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文 game clients.

Grid is translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano (partial), Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

Hint: The WowAce interface for adding translations is rather cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into Notepad, fill in your translations, and then paste the new data back into the system using the Import function.

Credits

Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!
Version 5.4.7.1653
  • Added Soulstone support to the Incoming Resurrection status
  • Added an option to choose a layout to use in Flex Raids (Greltok)
  • Improved options layout for statuses with multiple colors (Greltok)
  • Most statuses will no longer try to update for units not in visible range (ticket #714)
  • Moved Grid's options to the standard Interface Options window, with an option to prefer the old standalone window
  • Removed combined count/duration option for aura text (feel free to use a plugin if you want to spam yourself)
  • [API] GridRoster's IsGUIDInRaid method has been renamed to IsGUIDInGroup. The old name still exists as an alias, but plugins are encouraged to update anyway.

Version 5.4.1.1628
  • Fixed dispellable debuff detection for priests with Mass Dispel
  • Added a combined count/duration display for aura text (Mikk)

Version 5.3.0.1621
  • Fixed switching to the "None" layout

Version 5.3.0.1618
  • Moved the drag tab up slightly to avoid overlapping the backdrop
  • Fixed an issue causing the Center Icon indicator to appear behind the frame
  • Fixed the icon display for the Unit Name status
  • Added support for druids dispelling diseases with Cleanse via Symbiosis cast on a paladin

Version 5.3.0.1611

  • Fixed dispel capability detection for druids, and for warlocks with imps
  • Fixed the "World Raid as 40 Player" option (thanks Greltok)
  • Fixed the default aura status for Eternal Flame
  • Fixed errors from the resurrection status module

  • Added a By Class 40 layout
  • Added an option to use the 40-Player Raid layout while in a raid group outside of an instance

  • Changed the "Hide tab" and "Hide minimap icon" option to "Show tab" and "Show minimap icon" -- translators should verify the localization of these options

Version 5.1.0.1553
  • Updated for WoW 5.1

  • Fixed the options for removing custom auras (thanks jlam).

  • Fixed a bug causing frames and groups to be misaligned (ticket #447).
  • Buffs with "Show mine" selected will no longer display for units out of visible range (ticket #438).
  • Buffs with "Show when missing" selected will now correctly display on icon indicators (ticket #412).
  • Third-party modules will now be correctly included in the Debug menu.

OK, this is probably a stupid question, but I have somehow messed up my Grid settings and am at a loss to fix it. The health bar seems oddly disproportional to the actual amount of health that a character has lost: for example, a health bar will appear completely empty when a character is at 30% life, or half empty when they are at 75%. Since I play a healer, it's a very confusing problem to have.

Does anyone have any idea what settings I might need to change to fix this? Thanks very much!

Hi there,

I changed my WoW with the language pack from German to English, but now Grid is not working any more. As I'm using an interface package and don't wanna lose all the layout settings I really don't wanna delete the config lua in SavedVariables (if this could be a solution though).
Do you maybe have any idea how to get Grid running again?

//Ok sorry, my fault, ignore that post.

Grid doesn't individually assign unit IDs (eg. "raid1") to frames. The Blizzard secure group header system does that; Grid can only set the attributes on each header to control which units populate the header (eg. "groups 1-5" or "classes druid, priest, paladin, shaman" or "maintanks") and in what order they are shown (eg "alphabetical by name" or "by raid ID" or "druids, then paladins, then shamans, then priests").

There is no way to use that system to generate a header containing 25 frames for the same unit ("player"). Going that route for configuration would actually be more work than just creating insecure dummy frames, because it would also require rewriting all of the anchoring code to support 25 separate headers, each with a single unit.

In general, if adding a configuration mode to Grid were as simple as the suggestions you guys keep offering, it would have been done years ago. I'm not refusing to do it because I think it's a bad idea, or because I want to spite you guys who keep asking for it, and I don't believe Pastamancer felt that way either. The fact of the matter is that adding a configuration mode to Grid would require essentially rewriting the entire addon, as the way the addon is written now simply cannot support that functionality.

Just as a passing idea regarding the "set-up frames": would it be simple to have a function that would swap the other 39 frames(excluding the player) to register as being the player instead of raid members? So in effect, every frame is the Player. Place that into a simple boolean menu function and it'd just be an on/off set-up frame setting. This would just help with positioning if it were to work.

Short:
Instead of "raid1" etc. have the frames all register "player" to give you 10,25,40 blocks to play with for positioning.

If not, i'll take my limited lua knowledge and go packing. Cheers for the addon.

The "extra" space is there to accomodate the border of each unit frame. If the frames were flush up against each other "at rest" then when a status on the frame border was activated, they would overlap.

Hmm... Mine works the exact opposite. Downloaded the latest version of Grid and tried it on a new char, with no other addons, and default profile:
http://i44.tinypic.com/4uf5uv.jpg

full pics for proof:
http://i44.tinypic.com/14jb1x2.jpg
http://i42.tinypic.com/11i1r1u.jpg
http://i44.tinypic.com/2eq9bb8.jpg

The padding option would work how it is except it appears to have a hidden +2 pixels. Padding set to 0 is 2 pixel spacing, set to 1 is 3 pixel spacing, and so on.

edit: Forgot to thank you for your responses. Thank you

Yep, spacing is the setting you want, not padding.

Spacing controls the amount of space between each individual unit frame.

Padding controls the amount of space between the whole group of unit frames and the edges of the backround frame. Think of the backround frame as a box, and the unit frame are its contents. Like packing peanuts a real box, padding is what goes in between the boundaries of the box and its contents. Note that if you've hidden the background frame (by setting the opacity of its background and border colors) then the padding setting has no real visible effect.

Did you change the setting for spacing as well?

Believe it or not I agree with you. Now that I think of it, I always enjoy tweaking little things in raid downtime, or I make a little group when I'm farming with guildies. It's no big thing.

This has been asked and answered dozens of times over the years. Grid relies heavily on Blizzard's secure group templates, which do not provide any way to generate frames without having actual units in an actual group. The authors of Grid, myself included, have always felt that adding the amount of code that would be required to manually generate fake frames is not worth the marginal convenience it would provide to some people.

If someone else wanted to write a third-party addon/plugin that hooked into Grid to provide fake frames for configuration, nobody would stand in their way.

Personally, I’ve never found it remotely difficult to roughly configure Grid while solo, and make small tweaks as needed while in a raid. There’s always downtime in a raid, while people drink between pulls, or distribute loot after a boss kill, or just take a 5-minute break. If you’ve taken a few minutes outside of a raid to familiarize yourself with Grid’s menus, it only takes a few seconds to make any change you can think of.

Remember, you don’t have to use “real” settings for configuration. For example, as a mage you can apply Arcane Intellect at any time; if you need to check the size of the center icon, cast Arcane Intellect on yourself, add Arcane Intellect as a buff in the auras menu, and enable Arcane Intellect on the center icon indicator. Once you’re satisfied with the way the center icon looks, disable Arcane Intellect for that indicator, and delete the buff from the auras menu if you want.

If that isn’t good enough for you, you can always invite random people from your guild while they’re doing dailies, or hang out in Alterac Valley.

Read the tooltip that appears when you move the mouse cursor over the minimap icon (or DataBroker plugin). You should see this:

Click to open the options in a GUI window.
Right-Click to open the options in a drop-down menu.
If you don't see the first line, you should completely delete it and reinstall it from a fresh download, as you are missing the embedded library Grid needs to provide a GUI for configuration.

Your other option is to type "/grid" and use the command-line interface.
