Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 7.1.0.1
by: Phanx, Trelis

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.

The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

There is at least one plugin that provides this functionality.

Mana bars are provided by a third-party plugin, which I cannot provide support for.

Personally, I believe mana bars are counter to the basic design intent of Grid, and are a waste of screen space and system resources. Most of the time it does not matter how much mana someone has; with mana bars, the information is always there taking up space and adding clutter to the frames whether you need it or not. In any given situation, you will be better served by either the percent-based Low Mana status (eg. if you're a resto shaman, use the status to show when someone is below 76% mana and can fully benefit from Mana Tide) or a plugin that activates a status at a certain fixed value (eg. in the Kaz'rogal encounter, if someone drops below 2000 mana they explode). Conditional statuses are more effective than a traditional bar; they provide more precise information, and they only occupy space and attention when the information is needed.

Re: Re: Re: Unit Health - Background color

Got a suggestion.

Normally in party, 5 man and 10 man raids I keep the frames in the center of the screen for healing. The problem is in battlegrounds, with 25-40 people in a raid I can't see anything, so what would be nice is if beside each layout you could designate a profile so that when the group size changes, it auto-switches profiles for that situation.

I was able to achieve this somehow to my taste.. thanks! Only problem now is the colors of mana bars from the plugin are now "inverted" hehe... I'll use a status or something for mana... I'm using grid to tank and heal.

No, but you can save whole configurations via the profile system. You may be able to find a plugin that can automatically switch between saved profiles based on your current group size or other criteria; otherwise you'll need to switch between profiles manually.

Hi, I'm kind of new to this addon and not sure if the following settings can be configured or not. I spent an hour trying to do it but couldn't figure out a way.

I want to scale the 5 group (party layout) wider and bigger in any 5 man group for dungeons, but I also want smaller frames like the default one for raid and battleground.. if you know what I mean, is there a way to save each setting individually?

I'm not sure what you mean by "icons" but Grid doesn't hide any default UI elements. If you want to hide some part of the default UI, you'll need another addon, like HideBlizzard.

Re: Unit Health - Background color

You may be able to achieve the result you want without editing code, by disabling the "Invert health bar color" option (it's disabled by default) and choosing a lighter gray color for the Unit Health status. The darker color is derived from the Unit Health status' color, so if you choose a dark gray, the darker background/foreground (depending on your Invert setting) will appear black. If you choose a lighter gray, you'll get a darker gray, and you should be able to swap the foreground and background using the Invert setting.

If you can't get it to look how you want using those settings, then code modification would be required; I'd suggest you post a thread on the WowAce forums for further assistance if you need it.

Unit Health - Background color

I'm not sure that it is feasible, but I'm willing to go in the LUA if needed... Is there a way to set the background unit health color to a fixed one ? I'm using a dark gray color on the foreground, but I'd like to have a light gray on the background so it is easier to see the health deficit then a black background...

I want to achieve something like this with my grid :

Thanks.

Grid does not include power bars, as an intentional design choice. Power bars add a lot of visual clutter, but don't add much valuable information. In nearly every situation, the built-in Low Mana status is a better tool.

For example, if you're a druid, your main use of group member mana information is to help you decide when (and on whom) to use Innervate; if you set the Low Mana threshold to 40%, then anyone you see that status on can fully benefit from Innervate. (The 40% figure assumes that the average mana pool in your raid is at least 25k.) When you don't need the information (eg. when someone's mana is too high to benefit from Innervate) it's not taking up space on your screen.

If you're a shaman, your main use of group member mana information is to help you decide when to use Mana Tide Totem; since Mana Tide restores 24% of a player's mana bar (or 28% if glyphed), setting the Low Mana status to activate below 70% would give you an accurate picture of when your group's mana is low enough to benefit. Personally, my main is a shaman healer, and I use a Low Mana threshold of 30% to further reduce clutter, since most of the time I'm not actually going to cast it at 70%. Again, when you don't need the information, it's not cluttering up your screen.

Anyway, if you really believe you can't play effectively without mana bars on your raid frames, you can add them to Grid with a plugin. You should be able to find it by searching this site for "grid".

Power/Mana Bars

I've been pouring over the config menu (maybe I'm just blind), but I can't figure out how to get the power/mana bars to show up on the bottom of each unit, like Zara has on her UI.

Thank you so much for this answer (and for not poking me for missing the obvious). I guess I was too caught up on how the anchoring affected group growth.

Vertical Party/Group

I feel as if I must be overlooking something, but I cannot figure out how to get my groups to grow vertically. To elaborate, say I have the grid frames showing just myself. Someone joins my party and their frame goes to the right of mine and the next person goes to the right of theirs, etc. What I want is for the party members to show up above or below me and grow vertically. I've tried all the different anchoring options, and none of them seem to make a difference in this. Is this possible, and if so, how?

ETA: At the moment, I'm only dealing with healing 5-mans, so the positioning of the next groups isn't necessarily relevant. I would imagine, though, in my preferred scenario that groups would be added horizontally.

There are several HoT- and custom-aurarelated plugins that may meet your needs, using gradients or other visual means to convey count and duration information. You may also be able to find a plugin that adds square-style indicators that do show duration spirals.

Regardless, duration spirals will not be added to square-style indicators in the Grid core.

As for stack count colors, there's no practical general solution that could be implemented, since every stackable buff/debuff has a different number of stacks, and there's no way to retreive the maximum stack count via the API. Plugins that support stack count colors do so by hard-coding in the maximum count for each specific aura they support.
