AlarBGHelper  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 4.3.2b
by: alar [More]
Assistant for battlefields
Displays a small window with status information.

NOTE: In Alterac Valley, bosses' health depends on synchronization. If you are the only user of ABH in your BG you cant have any info other than what is already available to you, so only if you are really near to one of them (by near I mean just outside or inside the bunker) you can see the data changing even if you are not targeting the boss

Arathi Basin
Left clicking a base button asks for help, Right clicking inform that the base is now safe
Clicking on "Ally/Horde wins in .." line, announce it in chat
Same for the "We need .. bases to win"
Time left and bases needed will be meaningfull onoy when at least one base has been taken by horde or ally
Besides each contested nodes you will see the time left to cap.

Warsong Gulch
Shows 2 big button with carrier's names. Click to target, shift-click to announce.
Extending the window (click on the >> button) discovers some more button. They work with the left-click ask for help, right-click announce safe rule.

Alterac Valley
Objectives' names works with the left-click ask for help, right-click announce safe rule.
Besides each contested nodes you will see the time left to cap. Clicking on time will announce it in chat.

Common feature:
Extimated resurrection timer. I need some feedback on this one, cause it looks like the interval is not exactly 30 seconds.. or maybe some lag is involved.. I hadnt time to figure the right timer, so I use a 30 seconds cyclle starting from your first resurrection inside a BG

Planned feature:
Syncronization: make things so when you join a bg, you can get timers from other users of my mod. Basic code is already in, i just need to test it a bit more

Didn't you used to have it so we could left-click on Drek's (or Vann's) health bar and that info would be broadcast to the chat window? That would be very helpful... True, I wouldn't see Vann's health, but I'm not seeing it now anyway...

I suppose you are not on Bloodlust EU cluster.. otherwise we could manage to join the same av.. so I can have some testers
My wife is the worst Beta tester ever: she forget to upgrade addon, only thinks about topping killshot chart while in AV...

Anyway.
I never made anything with standard health bar. Chat spam has always been done via my panel clicking.
Regards you never see Drek/van changing, that's strange.
I noticed sometimes health g0o back to 100 for a while, but being consistently 100 while fighting him.. never seen.
Maybe the problem is in the fact you actually run with another ABH user (your wife) and a broken (because I never got the chanche to really test it) intraaddon communication is overwritung the (95% working) raid scan.

Are you using wowaceupdater? If yes, i can change a copuple of things and you can check them sooner than if I have to post here a full new release

<lol> Well mine always wants the top healer spot... And often gets it... Sometimes just from healing her kamikaze-hunter husband <lol>

No... I tend to get too much beta stuff that way... I think I have your latest, but I'll make sure tonight before I run AV again...

Is there anything I can do to help?

I hadnt time to upload a new version on wowace, but wheh I'll do you will have a command to display addon communication, so maybe you can figure if mesaggiing back and forth your wifes's alarbghelper and yours is working.
Command will be /abh comdebug
Cheers!

ehm... AV is broken big time...

Hi,

have been using the addon a lot lately (downloaded the latest version about 24 hours ago, didn't check updates since) and well, apart from the problem with the bosses' health (which gets updated when you are close, but doesn't show anything if you are not in the same room... I am ally, I see the life of Drek when we are hitting him, but I never know what is going on with the horde side of things... Dunno if it should work like that but it's pretty useless then, I mean, I am there beating on him! :P) the most annoying problem is with the timers. I maintain a pretty clean addons collection (loading same libraries only once and the kind) and I don't get any errors regarding BGHelper, so it's all working as it should. Still, all the timers are about 58-62 seconds too long, so when I spam the timers I have to always advise people that my timers are about 60 seconds longer than they should...
It works very well on EotS, AB and WSG instead, but that is even a totally different kind of thing, and I play them (obviously) much less than AV in which it would be really nice to have it kept under continuous control...
I am on Crushridge EU have been already been a beta tester (also as work) so if you need some help let me know.

Ah, I dun use WoWACEUpdater as it screws my collection big time... It's not able to understand the fact that I might have one folder with all the libraries instead than scattering them all over the place...

My appologies...

Alar, last night I removed all the Alar files including all saved variables, and then put on the latest from here...

The info with Drek is now working as intended...

My wife's is still not right, so we'll do the same for her...

I should have tried that before bothering you... Sorry....

@ ianhawke... Although the timers have been off by a few seconds... Usually they're right on for me... No idea why thats happening to you...

You can configure wowaceupdater to install WITHOUT externals. That should preserve your exixting libraries.
having AV timers back by a minute ,make me think about you running for some reason with an old GloryLib. As you remember, AV was on 5 minutes timer not so much time ago.

The less than 5 seconds difference is due to lag/latency and.. to the fact that actually timers are "advertised time" + about 2.5 seconds. (thank you Blizzard).
You should have a glorylib version in ..AlarBGHelper/AdditionalLibs. Try to move away all other version you could have (standalone or embedded in another addo). Then you can have: 1) a missing library error meanings i missed something while packaging it, 2) working as intended 3) still failing
Installing the last version of a standlone GloryLib COULD anyway fix your problem.

That said, I do appreciate your offer for help but you need to update AlarBGHelper via wowaceupdater (or download it at files.wowace.com) in order to always run the very last version.
The main site for AlarBGHelper development is http://wow.aspide.it, my own site. I'd be very happy if bug reports were centralized there

No, still my fault. User should never be forced to wipe data and/or old version to make the new one working. I'd really like to know what was messing your installation. No chance you saved the old files?

Congratulations :)

Hi Alar,

you might not even remember me, but I tried to help you with your first localisations of AlarBG Helper back in 2006
Since then I played not much WoW due to RL occupations, but now I am back and eager to test your now reeeeeally expanded addon!

Great Work! It still is the favourite BG addon with all my friends around Azeroth!

The only drawback for me is at the moment my little screenspace... the information has become very detailed, so the information windows grew bigger and bigger, but this is probably the nature of the game! ;-)
Especially AV must be scaled down almost beyond recognition to get out of the way! LOL!

Can you think of a mode where the icons can be switched off, so the text can be placed closer together? Or is this already possible and I missed it?

This would be great!

Keep on coding!

Welcome back!

Me too am struggling with an overcrowded screen, and I am trying to cope with that
All ABH windows are both scalable (click on the + icon) and resizable(click and drag the right bottom corner).
Timer bars can be disabled via /abh gui
AV commanders' window can be disabled

Clicking the minimize icon (titlebar, on the right, to the left of the X icon) you toggle between full window and header only mode (timer bars are still visible if you enabled them)

If using all these feature you feel ABH still being too big, feel free to suggest a way to shrink it (but possibly without removing base icons because it's via icon I show who is owning a base)

Hi,
I'm a great fan of AlarBGHelper but I think I've found some rather worrying bug in 3.3.5:
It's blowing up my SV file AlarBGHelper.lua to the magnitude of several mb's. (20mb+)
I've nuked the entire file but it began happening again. The content of the SV begins normal but then it appears that it's including other frame's data into the alar positioning info:
PHP Code:
(snipeverything looking normal up to here)
                [
"AlarWSGHelper"] = {
                    [
"Point"] = {
                        [
"y"] = -17.41061019897461,
                        [
"x"] = 76.16049194335938,
                        [
"parent"] = {
                            [
"firstTimeLoaded"] = 1,
                            [
"Above"] = {
                                [
"ResetButton"] = {
                                },
                                [
"Rows"] = {
                                    {
                                        [
"StatusBar"] = {
                                        },
                                        [
"clickData"] = "Martzel",
                                        [
"id"] = 1,
                                        [
"RightText"] = {
                                        },
                                        [
"LeftText"] = {
                                        },
                                        [
"name"] = "Martzel",
                                        [
"TooltipData"] = {
                                            [
"DeathLogs"] = {
                                                {
                                                    [
"MessageIncoming"] = {

true, -- [1]

(
snipseveral megabytes of recount data in here cut
The data it includes in my case seems to originate from recount.
If you need further info to fix this bug I can provide one of the blown up files privately. (pm or so)

Command line:
/abh abbars on|off
/abh avbars on|off
Gui
Select the battleground (AB or AV) then check/uncheck Show status bars for contested nodes

Accepting suggestions for a better description

I am getting the following repeated about 2000 times per BG:

Code:
[2008/04/10 13:21:40-135-x653]: AlarLib-2.0-68657 (AlarBGHelper):2714: bad argument #1 to 'SetFormattedText' (string expected, got nil)
