BindPad - GUI to set keybindings for spell/item/macro  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.6.7

BindPad -- Created by Tageshi

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. WHAT IS "BindPad"?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

BindPad is an addon to make KeyBindings for spells, items, and macros.
You no longer need actionbar slots just to make Key bindings for your macores etc.

BindPad addon provides many icon slots in its frame. You can drag and drop
anything into one of these slots, and click the slot to set KeyBindings.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. HOW TO USE "BindPad"?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Type /bindpad or /bp to display BindPad frame.
(Also you can find "Toggle BindPad" Keybinding command in standard
KeyBindings frame of Blizzard-UI.)

(2) Open spellbook frame (p), you bag (b), or Macro Panel (/macro).
(Also you can use three mini-icons on BindPad frame to open these windows.)

(3) Drag an spell icon, item icon, or macro icon using left button drag and
drop it onto the BindPad window.
(Maybe you need shift key + left button drag if action bars are locked.)

(4) Now you see the icon placed on BindPad frame. Click it,
and a dialog window "Press a key to bind" will appear.

(5) Type a key to bind. And click 'Close' button.

(6) When you want to remove icons from BindPad frame, simply drag away the icon
and press right click to delete it.

Note that KeyBinding itself will not be unbinded when you delete the icon.
To unbind it, click the icon and click Unbind button on the dialog window.
Also you can simply override Keybindings.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. HOW TO USE TABS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.1. SLOTS TABS

There are four tabs called Slots Tab on the top of BindPad frame
(like Blizzard's Macro frame).

[General Slots] is for common icons used for every characters and every specs.
[<Character> Specific Slots] is for icons specific to current character
and current spec.

[2] and [3] (aka. 2nd and 3rd <Character> specific slots) will act
in the same way as [<Character> Specific Slots].

Note that you can use [<Character> Specific Slots] tab only after you click
'Character Specific Key Bindings' check box at standard KeyBindings frame of Blizzard-UI.
From BindPad version 1.5, you can see this checkbox on BindPad window itself too.
(Also BindPad will inform you about 'Character Specific Key Bindings' and automatically
activate it for you when you click [<Character> Specific Slots] tab.)

3.2. PROFILE TABS

There are another three tabs called Profile Tab on the side of BindPad frame.
(like Blizzard's Talent frame)

Different Profile can hold different contents in [<Character> Specific Slots].
You can click a Profile tab to switch current Profile, and your choice of
Profile is saved for each Talent specs and automatically reverted to former
profile when you change talent spec. If you choose same Profile for both
talent specs this automatic change will not happen.

Note that [General Slots] tab is not effected by Profile change, as all
contents of [General Slots] tab is common for all characters AND all specs.
If you change Profile while [General Slots] tab is shown,
BindPad will automatically shows [<Character> Specific Slots] tab of
specified Profile.

3.3. CAN I SWITCH PROFILE IN COMBAT? ON STANCE CHANGE?

No, you cannot.

If you need different skills binded for different stances/forms,
simply use the stance condition to decide on what skill to use.

Example: /cast [stance:1/2] Berserker Stance; [stance:3] Intercept

Where [Stance:1/2] is conditioning the macro for you to be in battle stance
or defensive stance and [stance:3] is conditioning you to be in berserker stance.
This works for all classes with stances (Including rogues for stealth [stance:1]
and shadow dance [stance:2] or none of the previous [stance:0]).

Druid example: /cast [stance:1] Bash; [nostance:1] Healing Touch

[nostance] = Caster, [stance:1] = Bear, [stance:2] = Aquatic, [stance:3] = Cat,
[stance:4] = Travel, [stance:5] = Tree/Moonkin if available else Flight,
[stance:6] = Flight if Tree/Moonkin is not available.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. "You want to convert this icon into a BINDPAD MACRO?"... What?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"BindPad Macro" is a new feature from BindPad version 1.8.0 ;
which allow you to make almost unlimited number of virtual macro icons.

Older versions of BindPad just let you save your limited action bar slots.
This new BindPad will let you save your limited macro slots on the standard
"Create Macro" panel.

Usage:
- Click the small red "+" icon to create an empty BindPad Macro.
- Right-click an existing spell/item/macro icon on BindPad to convert it into a BindPad Macro.
- Right-click the "BindPad Macro" to edit macro-text.
- ...and you can use left-click to set keybindings as usual.

Note that BindPad Macro will only exist within the BindPad frame;
You can drag-and-drop them within BindPad, but you cannot drop them outside.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. DETAILS AND MORE INFORMATIONS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

BindPad addon utilizes new functions added from WoW API 2.0 .

You can use these functions (and many others) in any addons or macros.

GetBindingKey("command")
SetBinding("KEY", "command")
SetBindingSpell("KEY", "Spell Name")
SetBindingItem("KEY", "itemname")
SetBindingMacro("KEY", "macroname"|macroid)

Just don't forget to save changes by
SaveBindings(GetCurrentBindingSet());

Problems with 4.1 patch

Anyone having problems with Bindpad since the new patch? My macros seem to work fine unless they have [mod:shift] in them. But when I use Blizzard's default macro tool, the macro works without issues.

Tabs in bindpad been bugged for quite a while. I think you need to update the ace3 libs. Something blizzard is doing is causing tabs to become very wide.

I love this addon and have been using it for quite a while. I noticed something, though: Whenever my WoW crashes or occasionally when I get disconnected, the saved profiles are wiped for my characters and nothing is displayed at all in Bindpad.

Great addon, confusing profiles

Cool addon, Tageshi! Thanks!

I have to say though, the profiles are confusing. I clicked around. I read comments from several others and your replies to them. I still don't get it.

Firstly, I'm not some seasoned pro - I even had to look up what "primary/secondary" talents were. Secondly, and most importantly - the "readme" file didn't explain the part that needs explanation the most Plenty of confused feedback suggests that it might be worth the effort to properly explain profiles

Anyway, I was hoping I could use one profile per stance of my warrior: Profile 1 = battle stance, profile 2 = defensive, 3 = berserker. Is is possible to automatically switch profiles when I switch stances? Through some macros perhaps?

BindPad almost does exactly what I want, so here's hoping...

Maybe you have screwed it. Do you have backup of BindPad.lua ?

You needed to do this additional edit. Because if there are two same PROFILE_SSSSSSSS_NNNNNN in BindPad.lua, only one block will be loaded.

1.5. Search and delete old lines started with
["PROFILE_SSSSSSSS_NNNNNN"] = {
and end with
},
(Where your new sever name is SSSSSSSS and your new character name is NNNNNN.)

1. Open file "World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/<YOURACCOUNTNAME>/SavedVariables/BindPad.lua" with any text editor.

2. Search for a line like below

(When your sever name is SSSSSSSS and your character name is NNNNNN.)

3. Change that server name to your new server name.

4. Save changes.

Clarification Re: some issues

You don't need to assume anything by staring at looks.
Try to expriment some clicking, and feel it.

-label 1 switches to profile 1 what is linked to the primary talents
-label 2 switches to profile 2 what is linked to the secondary talents
we agree,
Actually we disagree.

-Clicking Profile1 let you choose to use profile 1 for your current spec (whichever you are).
And profile 1 is used for the primary talents now (before clicking anything).

-Clicking Profile2 let you choose to use profile 2 for your current spec (whichever you are).
And profile 2 is used for the secondary talents now (before clicking anything).

that those labels are clickable and that something happens on click, right ?
Clicking on those labels actually switch the listed/displayed macros so the assumption seems to be confirmed.
You are right.

So, now lets see what happens with the labels when click on it :
When clicking on label 1, the icons change (why ??)
Because you chose to use Profile 1 for your current spec, and your current spec was the secondary talents.

and it suddenly shows BOTH talenttree icons (the icon form talent2 is embedded in the talent1 icon) and the labels description now says :
"Profile 1
Primary Talents
Secondary Talents"
Is this intended ? and if, what is its purpose ? (besides confusing users)
Very normal and intended.
You just chose to use Profile 1 for your current spec (the secondary talents).
You are now looking all Profile 1 spell icons and macro icons. Which means you are now using these items you see now.
And of course, now Profile 1 is used for both the primary talents and the secondary talents. Because you chose to use Profile 1 in both talent specs.

For me, this behavior just looks like a Bug and doesnt make any sense.
I think you are misunderstanding what is called "Profile".

When i click on label 2, the talenttree2 icon jumps back to its former place to label 2, description reads as it was before any cklicking
"Profile 2
Secondary Talents"
Because by clicking label 2, you chose to use Profile 2 for your current spec which is still the secondary talents.

When i click on label 3 associated with Profile 3, the Secondary Talent Icon now jumps from Profile 2 Label to the Profile 3 label.
Now, what is the intention of this ?
Again, you just chose to use Profile 3 for the secondary talents.

Every user would assume, that suddenly Profile 3 is meant to contain the macros that are used when the user switches to Secondary Talents.
You are right.

Though the macros that have been in the Profile 2 tab are still shown in that Tab , just the icon switched.
Your perception is not enough and actually wrong here.
The fact you didn't know is this; Each Profile is initiallized as a copy of existing Profile when you first use one.
So your Profile 3 has all the copy of macros from Profile 2 when you first decided to click Profile 3, but you can edit any icons and macros in Profile 3 independent of Profile 2.

Dont u think that this is confusing and very anti-intuitional and unlogic-looking ?
No at all. It is intuitional and logical.

why not fixate the talent spec and therefore its icons to the Profiles ?
Because it is more useful for better players.
I hope you will some day become one of them.

The two icons you see are "Primary Talents" icon and "Secondary Talents" icon.
These are not profile N icons. You see?

yes i see, but lets have a closer look so u understand whats confusing the users :

label 1 shows the icon of Primary Talents and its Description reads : "Profile 1" " Primary Talents"

label 2 shows the icon of Secondary Talents and its Description reads : "Profile 2" " Secondary Talents"

so far so good.
So, every intelligent beeing would assume by intuition and logic , that

-label 1 switches to profile 1 what is linked to the primary talents
-label 2 switches to profile 2 what is linked to the secondary talents

means
hardlink profile 1 with talent spec 1 and its icon
hardlink profile 2 with talent spec 2 and its icon

so no weird jumping icons and descriptions confusing everyone

I want my number pad "7" to be Vampiric Embrace when I am shadow (offspec)
I want my number pad "7" to be holy nova when I am Disc (primary spec)

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this!
(1) First, you need to use "torqamadda Specific Slots" tabs (if your in-game name is this) instead of "General Slots" tab.
Because "General Slots" tab is common for all characters and all specs.
(2) put your Vampiric Embrace icon in "torqamadda Specific Slots" of Profile 1 and bind "7".
(3) Put your holy nova icon in "torqamadda Specific Slots" of Profile 2 and bind "7".
(4) Leave the "Primary Talents" icon in Profile 1.
(5) Change your spec to Secondary Spec, and leave "Secondary Talents" icon in Profile 2.
(6) Done.
