Cartographer is a modular, lightweight, and efficient framework for manipulation of the world map.

  • Battlegrounds : allows viewing of battlegrounds outside of the zone.
  • Coordinates : adds coordinates to the bottom of the world map of the player and the cursor.
  • Foglight : Shows unexplored areas on the map. replacement for MozzFullWorldMap or Unexplorer. Much more efficient, though.
  • Group Colors : turns all your party's and your raid's POIs into circles colored based on class, and shows a number on them based on their raid group.
  • Guild Positions : show all guild members that also have Cartographer.
  • Instance Loot : shows loot tables when you click a boss note
  • Instance Maps : shows maps of instances.
  • Instance Notes : adds boss notes and such to instance maps.
  • Look 'n' Feel : allows you to change the transparency, position, and scale of the world map.
  • Notes : lets you put notes on the map, similar to MapNotes.
  • POI : store notes that city guards point you to.
  • Professions : automatically tracks herbs, minerals, and treasure.
  • Waypoints : allow you to make waypoints and have a big arrow point the way.
  • Zone Info : on hovering over a zone, it will show the levels of the zone, the instances in the zone, their levels, and the number of men the instance is made for (e.g. 5-man, 40-man).

Well, I see that there must not be a mapnote import way with this addon other than gatherer locations. If there was, I assumed my question would have been answered after posting it twice here and twice on the ace forums. Nice work with low memory requirements but losing 2 years worth of data it's worth the switch.

I love Alphamap, but your comment is very unfair, not to mention extremely rude.

First of all, all of these modules can easily be disabled. Each is in its own file and can be deleted. Use of cartographer does not restrict your choices in any way.

Second, alphamap and many of the other add-ons you listed were not the first of their kind. Some tried to do something new or push things in a different direction, and some tried to do the same things in a better way. I don't think Cartographer differs at all in that regard. From what I've seen, this project is trying to create more interoperability between the different modules since they obviously share common ground. This should greatly improve efficiency over using seperate tools that often have to recreate the wheel even though they are doing the same things.

That said, Cartographer is new and seems to still have some rough edges. I'm pretty confident ck will iron those out and improve things. I wish I could say as much for your rude attitude.

Why do authors feel the need...

This is another AddOn like MetaMap

I want the choice of which functionality I want, I don't want to have 5 pieces of functionality forced on me because I want 1 of the things an AddOn offers

I want a scalable, transparent WorldMap that I can leave on screen, plus Battleground maps - and AlphaMap (Fan's Update) does alll this already including Burning Crusade support.

Yes I do want MapNotes also, but there is a MapNotes (Fans Update) available also.

And what's more, those AddOns are compatible with lots of other AddOns - the author hasn't tried to absorb other peoples ideas - they just made the mods compatible - so Alphamap works with MapNotes and Gatherer and MetaMap and FlightMap...
And MapNotes works with Atlas and AlphaMap and WoWKB....

Why do authors like Carto's try to put everything in one AddOn and restrict peoples choice ?

BTW, there is an easy-ish way to disable the Instance maps in AlphaMap (I prefer Atlas) - you simply go to the /AddOns/AlphaMap/Maps folder and delete the map.blp files you don't want - the author has even made it easy to delete his own maps if you dont want them and prefer to use another Instance Map ! Other AddOn authors are like jealous teenagers with huge inferiority complexes.

Merry overblown addon Xmas.

I do plan on making it work nicely with the battleground map and such.

I got a new computer, so I still have yet to install WoW/TBC on it.

Cartographer seems a nice mod, but the only thing that attracts me is the raid functions, I've tried messing around a bit so I could use it instead of the normal BG minimap, but then the raid group numbers become unreadable and I haven't got a world map either that way. I wondered if it would be possible to have a seperate add-on as replacement for BG minimap? Anyway great work ckk knight, you make great add-ons.

I have the Cartographer_import but if i read the changelog file and the toc file correctly, it only supports the import data from gatherer. If it is able to import map notes from addons such as metamap, then please explain how this is done.

I use the following combination for my map:

Carthographer
Carthographer_herbalism
Carthographer_mining
InFlight for flight times, and locations of flight masters
TrainerFu for training costs and trainer locations.

And offcourse there is an addon to import data fom metamap and the likes. Cartographer_import can import notes and gatherer locations.

These can be downloaded from wowace.com/files

Map notes

I have the same question as Gwyndyn. Is there a function to import map notes from other map addons such as metamap? I have 2 years worth of note data I hate to lose if I switch map addons.

Un'Goro and Felwood gatherables included?

It sounds promising as a Gatherer replacement, but I'm less concerned about herbs and mines than I am a few other types of resources. For example, I have most of the Un'Goro soil and bloodpetal sprout locations mapped. Likewise, in Felwood I have the locations of windblossoms, songflowers, whipper roots, and night dragons. Finally, I have the locations of many fishing schools. Gatherer was able to handles these, though it was kind of inconsistent with schools. Does Cartographer map them?

I see notes, herbs and mines outside the minimap.
I use a german client.
At the moment I patch the Notes.lua on line 2913 with the following code:
Code:
if (diffX * diffX) + (diffY * diffY) < Minimap_Width * Minimap_Width then
  poi:Show()
else
  poi:Hide()
hide
I know it's not the author way.

At first I was a bit upset about having to get another Addon when you removed the coordinates from locationFu. But now I'm glad I was "forced" to get this mod, it's excellent. I commend you!

Mapnote Icons squeezed to the top of the mapscreen

hmm, updated today to the newest version from wowace downloads...
I like it, that there are now circles on the minimap, instead of the symbol of the node. So one can see if there is a spawn or not - just like gatherer

One Problem, though: all my cartographer mapnotes are flat squeezed away from their original positions on the map to the very top of the mapwindow. I had entered all Silithyst Locations in Silithus. Can't speak from other locations, since these were the only mapnotes I made.

Is there a way to restore these notes to their normal positions?

Does the notes functionality allow you to import old mapnotes?
