Distance2

Version: beta 20023
by: Mahiro [More]

DISTANCE2 - beta

this addon displays an aproximate range to you enemy or friendly target, depending on the class you play.

not all the options are implemented/working at the moment so i will add more with coming updates.

i wanted to make it easier for the user to see if something is missing for the addon to work correct,
so i added a spell and talent database for each class and you can perform checks to see what spells/talents are missing and
wether a range wich is supported for you character is active or inactive due missing spells on your actionbar.

----------------------------------
classes:
----------------------------------
the addon supports active classes but they need testing,

* Druid -- active
* Hunter -- active
* Mage -- active
* Paladin "inactive"
* Priest -- active
* Rogue "inactive"
* Shaman -- active
* Warlock "inactive"
* Warrior "inactive"

----------------------------------
commands:
----------------------------------
/dist2

----------------------------------
changes:----------------------------------
20023
* fixed: typo which caused a error for shamans
* fixed: Hunter: removed Wyvern Sting from range check (workaround for Invalid spell slot error)
* fixed: typo which caused an error for shadow priests

20022
* changed: toc updated to 20300
* added: priest spells to DB
* changed: file structure
* changed: activated priest spell ranges (needs to be tested)

20020
* fixed: bar scaling
* fixed: a typo
* changed: spells check now checks spells from spellbook and no longer from action bar.

20019
* changed: talent checks for all classes (no more talent name check)
* added: druid spellDB
* added: druid spell and talent check
* added: some druid ranges (needs testing)

20018
* changed: removed class localizations from loc files
* changed: minimum bar width to 5px
* changed: hunter talent check

20017
* changed: class localization removed
* changed: toc to 20100
20016
* fixed: frame ancho problem
20015
* fixed: problem with loading options
* fixed: another scaling problem
20014
* fixed: frame scaling and anchor issue

Distance3 update 20.04.08

i fixed some problems in the spellcheck, multiple frame creation works now.
there are some difficultys with the range check but i think i should find a solution for that until next weekend. after this is solved i might release a first test version.
i also added a lot of options to the menu for frame customizablility but i have to implement the functionality before they are ready.
here is a preview pic of the menu options that will be aviable, its all work in progress so things could and probably will change till release.

if you have any suggestions or think something is missing, please post it here so i can take a look at it.

update 12.04.08

because i rewrite most of the addon i decided to move to version 3.
i implemented the last option in the spellcheck and starting to add menu options and multiple unit creation.
this part may take some time because there are a lot of things i never done before and might need some more testing.

the new spellcheck scans all the tooltips from spells with range in the spellbook and puts the min and max ranges into a table. and as far as i know do the tooltip ranges adjust when skilling range talents, so the talent check is not needed any more

very good to hear, I've been loving the addon you have so far for a while now and it makes me happy you are wanting to spend more time on it, well... a better new version of it :P

Good luck to you and if you need testing at all let me know, I can test priest spells and more specifically shadow (But I'd respec to grab range increases for holy etc too).

Re: Re: REQ: Specific distance checks/naming

21000 - preview:
just wanted to let you know that im working on a huge update for Distance2 (it could be distance3^^).
the acctual code was not what i had in mind when i planned it, but i did not have the knowledge to do it right.
i reached a point where im able to do what i wanted to do with this addon,
so im rewritign most of the code and creating a new menu so i can use the addon as optional dependecy for an other addon of mine.

here are some things i hope to release with the next version:
-- full customizable bars
-- free positioning of text frame
-- multiple frames can be created for different units
-- user can deactivate ranges he doesent want
-- supports every class
-- spellbook is scanned for ranged spells and uses them for the rangecheck

there is a lot of work to do till everything is written and tested,

wip:
-- the spellcheck is mostly done (complete spellbook parsing and table creation for every spell with range)
-- all the class db, talent checks and class specific spell checks could be deleted.
-- new menu (ready to implement all the options).
-- im writing the rangecheck to get the new methods working
and see how i can implement interact ranges and items.

Re: REQ: Specific distance checks/naming

hi DJJoejoe, im glad you like the addon
i havent worked on this addon for some time now because i wanted to change once again the spellcheck so it would create all the infos needed for the range when checking the spellbook.

i wrote some new functions this week and looking forward to testing it, not sure it works because its the first time i done something like that

if it works i can delete all the class code i wrote and it should be possible with the method to let the user activate/deactivate certain ranges or spells, and i could finaly implement all the other options i planned for it

REQ: Specific distance checks/naming

Got another suggestion for ya. Would it be possible to select this distances to mark/pay attention to? What I mean is, as a shadow priest the only ranges i care about are my DoT range and flay range, so it would be nice to instead of seeing the bar go from 30 to 20 to 15 blah blah, to go from one range, dotting, to when I can flay etc.

============== OOR (37+)
===========---- Dot (36)
====------------- Flay (24)

Something of that nature, only showing those distances and nothing else. Could be as simple as a check box in the options to turn on display for each distance mark. Would make this even more useful and specific for each person. Naming of set distances and choosing only which distances to show on the bar.

I look forward to when you get talent scanning working though, that or a manual entry may be easier and I wouldn't mind having to enter my talents.

REQ: Manual talent entry

Would it be possible to allow manual entry of talents? That would be nice. Other then that, your addon is amazing, I've never found a range addon I liked but I've always wanted one for quick reference when trying to distance myself from a mob. It's always a pain spamming mind flay and inching forward, and most of the time when you do things like that you actually will waste 1-3 flays when you get in range due to slight latency etc.

Re: error report

@Arabeth: glad you like it warlock support is next on my list after some error fixes. im also working on a new option to display bars for custom targets. so you can for example add a range bar for your pet or a party member.

@Blasta: thanks for the error report, i already fixed a typo in version 20023 which should fix the error you get. and hope to find the problem with the talent check tomorrow.

i dont think that is possible since blizz removed the coordinate output of targets:/ it would only be possible for group members outside of instances which doesent make much sense to me...

maybe a little moveable onscreen arrow of what direction the target is in many fights like archi where the target is thrown out of its original position would help with healing/decurseing

A suggestion: you might want to add a couple lines to this page that tells what the addon actually does.

i added support for priest spells but they need to be tested. so if you have any problems please report them.

i heard that the deadzone for hunters got removed, is this true? and if so, whats the minimum range of the weapons, 5yards?
