This is the continuation of Comix, thanks to Maido for letting me continue the project
Comix is a plain Fun Addon. It's sole purpose is to keep you entertained.
It doesn't do anything useful but the EntertainYourFaceOff™ technology contained in the package is sure to keep you amused for hours, and you won't even know why
In plain english: It shows a Image and plays a sound when you crit. These Images and Sounds are done in Comic Style. but it can do so much more....
Features:
cool stuff happens on Crits (heals and damage)
plays fancy sounds
plays sounds ripped from other things
keeps track of up to 2 useless statistics
now includes a bad joke detector
now with added ready check sounds
an awesome objection system
a drama button for the unnecessary drama in the game (all drama - its a game people :P)
now incorporates the Supermassive Fail mod for all the times when saying fail on its own just doesn't cut it
and more.....
GFX: Venomia, Maidokilla SFX: Random things found on the net :P support us! GUI: Si ( previously Florix) Coding: Si (previously Zabuza and Maidokilla)
PS: The Way i loaded 'images' and 'sounds' is somehow copied from the Author of the addon Critman. I really liked the way he did that cause ppl can modify Images and Sounds easy this way. the new flash gfx were ripped from the mod Instabolt, which i think ripped them from somewhere else so no hard feelings

Change Log - Comix
New features ftw
Firstly a big thanks to Zzxyz over at curse for letting me integrate his mod Supermassive Fail into Comix.
this is how the supermassive fail works (taken from the mods curse page):
Basically all it does is replace two tildes (~~) with the link.
Here are the possible channels:
/fail rw
/fail party
/fail raid
/fail guild
/fail officer
/fail bg
/fail emote
/fail say
/fail yell
It should always be lowercase. But lets say you want to whisper it!
/fail is all you need to write. Simple as that! If you want to whisper a player with the name "Party" for example, capitalizing any letter will cause the addon to recognize it as a player name instead of a channel name. This is why channel names need to be typed in lower case. Typing /fail 2 is the same as typing /fail trade - both will enter the link into trade chat.
Lastly, you can set your AFK or Do Not Disturb message to [Supermassive Fail] if you like, by typing /fail afk or /fail dnd.
Objections - you can now object to people with authority, if you've ever played Phoenix Wright you'll know what to expect. The portraits and gender checking don't work on people outside your party/raid group. as far as i know theres no nice way around this. works on the standard /object command
The bad joke detector has had an upgrade, you can now have a target for your bad joke detection (valid targets are other players only)
Drama - for those times when you can just feel the drama emanating from the situation your in just hit /drama, inspired by the website www.dramabutton.com
some redundant stuff has been removed and at least 1 new sound has been added
Originally posted by Tomacco_Boy Ive been getting this with the latest version of comix.
Code:
[2008/10/19 16:28:55-8846-x1]: Comix-1.7 beta\Comix.lua:1254: attempt to concatenate field '?' (a nil value)
Comix-1.7 beta\Comix.lua:132: in function `Comix_OnLoad'
:"*:OnLoad":1: in function <[string "*:OnLoad"]:1>

make sure the mod is installed properly, redownload it if need be
the code thats throwing the error is related to the initial sound that plays on load, but i have not seen a problem with this code the whole time ive been working on this mod

This is a great addon btw!
the folders that hold the sounds are more for cleanliness, they still have to be added into the scripts so WoW knows to load them.
at the moment i don't have plans to modify that sort of stuff too much as i have WotLK compatability work to do, maybe after the expansion hits i might look at it.
but if you look at all the lua files you should be able to work out how the sounds are implemented
Originally posted by WereCatf I simply love Comix, it adds so much to the game I mean, it's nowhere near useful but heck, WoW feels so much more enjoyable now
There's just a few things...Well, some of the effects' graphics look rather poor. It'd also be nice if you could see/hear the effects other group members get as long as they have Comix installed. But is that possible? Or feasible?
one of things i try to do with the mod is to minimize potential spamminess, which is why i dont attach sounds to abilities that are used quite a lot etc.
i've thought about adding in something like that before, but i'm reluctant to do so as in a raid situation, with everything going on, if everyone had the mod installed, you would have so much stuff firing that it would get more annoying than fun. I am thinking of ways that i can add more interactiveness to party/raid situations (the /badjoke should work for anyone that has the mod, but that is pretty situational)

no it doesnt, but you could always replace the files with something you deem appropriate

Originally posted by sillysyra I stopped using Comix because the in game menu was confusing. When I went to disable something from the in game menu I could barely tell what most of the options did. Eventually I unchecked all of them but it didn't seem to do all that much anyhow.
Any chance you could make the menu have understandable options, or allow the user to switch between a funny and serious menu?
I suppose that describing silly functions seriously might be impossible... "Disable leftward boinging of crits!"
which ones in particular did you have trouble understanding?, between the option name and the description, i thought it was fairly easy to work out what did what.

Crit Gap doesn't seem to work for me, i enable it and put the gap to 500, yet when i crit my molten armor(never goes above 300) i still get the text popping up. I got sounds disabled in the options, apart from that everything is enabled.
Im a level 70 undead mage, i play on skullcrusher EU, and my character is named Artanias.
This is an issue for me, seeing as the text popping up is only cool when its on actual spells, and when im a fire mage with talented molten armor pretty much everything hitting me can trigger a crit, hence i end up being SPAMMED with the text sometimes, which i really feel ruins the "coolness" of it.
crit gap is currently broken, this is due to me planning to remove it in the near future, but i may just fix it instead
an alternative for now would be to lower the crit percentage, so its not always going off, this will affect the chance on spells you want it to crit on though, but may help your spam troubles

Originally posted by Shinsou OK, got the replacement sound files to work just fine. BTW - I'm using sound files from Starcraft . What I want to do now is have a macro or something that plays a sound file in Comix whenever I use Totemic Call. Was just wondering if I had to fiddles with the comix.lua in order to get that event scripted.
search comix.lua for the UNIT_SPELLCAST_SENT event, and you'll see how its done
