Satrina Buff Frames 3  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.1.25
by: Satrina, father0fnine

SBF has a maintainer!
I have to say, I am amazed by the number of people who just kept plugging along. It makes me feel bad that I do not have the time to keep working on this myself - you guys are all awesome! The good news is that a new maintainer has been found. Meet father0fnine, who is taking over SBF. I'm sure you'll all show him as much love as you showed me all these years

Today I noticed that the debuff icons no longer have their coloured outline by type (purple for curses etc.). I looked into the options but couldnt find a way to fix it (except the bars options but I need it only for the icons). Is this an intended change, something I've overlooked or it might be caused by another addon (i.e. cyCircled, Skinner although both are disabled)?

EDIT: did some testing and it turned out that cyCircled was messing with the debuff icons skins even while the plugin was disabled. Deleting the addon fixed the issue.

haha =) Supporting skinner is a good idea, I think I'll do that for LCF

Well, I agree that the copy/paste buttons in ECP are kind of ugly... but I prefer the side placement of the text boxes, and the alpha slider/text box. Plus I use Skinner, so ECP is all nicely integrated, whereas LCF is a rather horrifying peek at the default UI textures.

But ECP is so ugly! But I did want a copy/paste solution for SBF since there are many colour boxes, and colours between individual frames make it inevitable that someone will come along and ask for that functionality.

It'll be disabled for people with ECP in the next release, so nobody will be the wiser. When I get it all polished up, I will release it and maybe someday more than SBF, CastProgress and StatusWindow will use it =)

I use MSBT... but during my testing when I noticed the option, MSBT wasn't enabled, so I didn't think to try it anyway.

As for ECP... I know not everyone uses it, and wasn't suggesting that they did. My point was that those who do use both don't need LibColourFrame at all (although if you plan to disable it for ECP users in the future that's fine), and those who want copy/paste functions would be better off just using ECP, since it works with everything, and LCF only works with SBF. Wasn't trying to step on any toes, just seems like it would be a lot easier to point users who want these functions to an existing universal solution rather than writing your own from scratch.

I guess AddonLoader isn't as fire and forget as all that. I'll see if I can figure out why it's blowing up. SBF options don't use any events, so I can't imagine why there would be a conflict.

I'll fix the .toc for standalones for the next upload, thanks.

SBF supports SCT, Parrot, MSBT, and Blizzard's SCT. It's just a generic term. I suppose I could gray out the controls if none of those are present. (Edit: And done)

I know it might be an amazing concept, but not everyone uses ECP. That said, LibColourFrame is a beta, and making it not overlap ECP is something on the to-do list. (Edit: And done)

After many, many UI reloads, I tracked the problem down to AddonLoader. While it's enabled, I get the error, and no options. Without it enabled, there's no error, and options work fine.

For those of us running with standalone libraries, you should add LibSharedMedia-2.0 (and LibStub) to the OptionalDeps field in the TOC. Otherwise, LibSharedMedia-2.0 is not loaded, and SBF throws an error about being unable to find it.

A few other thoughts and ideas for future additons:
  • The SCT expiry display options are visible even though I don't use SCT.
  • Within each "time segment" (i.e. all buffs with no duration, or all buffs with 52 minutes remaining), it'd be nice if they could be sorted by name. Currently they seem to be random... it's not a huge deal, but it'd be easier to tell at a glance what's up if they were consistently ordered.
And just as a personal pet peeve against duplication and clutter, is the LibColourFrame thing really necessary? I already use EnhancedColourPicker to add copy/paste and direct input to the color picker, and it works with all addons that use the Blizzard color picker, as well as being compatible with the copy/paste functions in (ewww) RockConfig.

Sure, an option for that is as easy as a checkbox.

in the meantime:
1) Open SatrinaBuffFrame.lua in a text editor
2) Search for SBF.InsertEnchant
3) Change this line: table.insert(self.buffs, self.enchants[invID]) to table.insert(self.buffs, 1, self.enchants[invID]) (this should be line 1011)

Edit: And done for next release.

Wonderful addon Satrina. I do have one slight aesthetic issue that's been bothering me though. The buff frame seems to default temporary weapon enchants to the last slot on the buff frame. Any chance you could add an option to make them display first instead and/or point me to the code to change in the mean time? As a shaman I tend to watch the weapon buff timer fairly frequently and it's a bit easier to check them at a glance if they're in the first and second slot, rather than at the end, as silly as that might sound. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Phanx: ... dunno what to say. I tried blowing away my own saved variables and starting from zero, no trouble at all. The only thing I can think of is a conflict with another addon. Could you triy running with just SBF loading?

HOP3: Don't get too excited. It's a neat idea but while thinking about it, I came to the same conclusion as Phanx that it is something that would happen as a separate addon that injects that data into SBF. Definitely something not on my short-term list to do.

Yay youre awesome thank you! The original idea -if you wanna know- came from Mik's scrolling battle text. You can add anything to that scrolling text as event, trigger, with showing up text fully customizable AND with sound (and you can define the icon appear of the side of the text too). But then I thought that such effect like the rogue talent and others could look much better in a buff icon. :]

One more question:
Any way to put text on the shaman totem buffs? Or Its already in there (just took my shaman out from the dusty inn's corner after a long time so maybe it was a request ages ago just I dont know about this how to set it up sorry).

Interesting thought. Maybe for 2.10 - I'll definitely need to think about it and look into how it would work. [/b]

Same error after logging out, deleting the saved variables, logging in to a default setup, typing "/sbf options".

That error indicates that you have saved variables with no defined buff frames, or corrupted saved variables. Do you have a SatrinaBuffFrame.lua in your SavedVariables directory that you can clear out? Or issue /sbf profile reset and then reload UI before opening the options.

You're right about the function of what HOP3 was asking, I was thinking about it today. It'd definitely be a separate addon with a dependency on SBF. It's probably something I won't write given the addon load I already carry, but interesting to think about.

Well, re-downloading again today after maintenance got rid of that error... but now when typing "/sbf options" the dummy config buffs appear, the options window does not open, and I get this error:

...ibScrollingDropDown-1.0\LibScrollingDropDown-1.0.lua:147: bad argument #1 to 'ipairs' (table expected, got nil)

About the "nonexistent buff buffs"... functionality like that couldn't depend on any events; you'd have to have specific code for every "pseudo-buff" you wanted. For Highfather's example, you'd need to see that he had that talent, then start an arbitrary timer whenever he left stealth. IMO functionality like that does not belong in a buff mod, although a buff mod could provide an API for third-party plugins to use it to display things like this.
