Satrina Buff Frames 3  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.1.25
by: Satrina, father0fnine

SBF has a maintainer!
I have to say, I am amazed by the number of people who just kept plugging along. It makes me feel bad that I do not have the time to keep working on this myself - you guys are all awesome! The good news is that a new maintainer has been found. Meet father0fnine, who is taking over SBF. I'm sure you'll all show him as much love as you showed me all these years

On 3.2 PTR, SBF is reporting Mana Spring Totem as a "N/A" (persistent aura) even though it's clearly a 5-minute buff in practice (like all other totems).

Addon looks promising, would be amazing if the filters would work right...
Using it since 3.1 release. Had some problems, but was working.

With 3.1.12 update I wanted to set up some more frames (to have filtered buffs/debuffs). Some of things I want to do is separate buffs that i can cast from others, debuffs i can dispel from others, have a frame showing short time buffs, power gains etc.
And well, it was working pretty well (needed more tweaks but OK).

The "can dispel (ha)" filter didn't work at all for me tough.
If i set 2 frames, 1st blacklist 'ha' filter, 2nd whitelist 'ha' filter, all debuffs would show in the 2nd frame, while the 1st never shows any debuffs...

Today "upgraded" to 3.1.13, and now the 'c' filter doesn't work as well.
I had 2 frames, 1st blacklist 'c', 2nd whitelist 'c' filters, and it was working fine with 3.1.12, but with 3.1.13 shows all buffs in the 1st frame, 2nd frame doesn't show anything.
I tried wiping saved variables, and even deleted the UI and tried SBF alone, but doesn't work...

Basically only filters that work fine for me (that I use) are 'my' filter, duration ('d'), and spell name based filters ('n').

Am I doing something wrong? Or it just doesn't work?

The addon is gr8 still, I'll just try to make some workarounds, but would be even beter with those filters working :P

Edit:
Returned to 3.1.12
In 3.1.13 nothing really works
  • as mentioned 'c', 'ha' filters
  • now even 'my' filter does some strange things (e.g. last buff that i cast shows up in the frame where 'my' is blacklisted and not in whitelist 'my' frame, until I cast next buff)
  • after reloging all buffs show up in the 1st buff frame (with blacklist 'my') until I cast some buff
  • In combat buffs switch places randomly, last 'my' buff shows up in blacklisted 'my' frame and switches to the right frame after few seconds...
Anyone else had similar problems or is it just me ?

Isei, I have a combat buffs frame similar to yours. Mine is a whitelist set up with the following filters:

my&!a&D<2
npc&!a&D<2
n=heroism
n=hysteria
n=tricks of the trade

So it will show everything I 'cast' (which btw includes things like trinket procs, potions and even mounts and such) but won't show auras (mounts, stealth, etc) or anything longer than 2 minutes (will leave out all raid buffs, consumable buffs etc). The 'npc' filter will cause it to show buffs like those in the Hodir fight and then I've added a few specific buffs cast by other players that I care about.

I play a rogue and it works great, I imagine it varies a bit from class to class but shouldn't be too hard to tweak except maybe for healers. The one thing it shows that I don't wish it to are the food and drink timers when eating but I can live with that.

Blizz haven't given buffs nice categories like they have debuffs, though pseudo-categories could be defined via extensive use of the tt filter I guess (tt~elixir, tt~trinket, etc).

Hope that is helpful

Filter Suggestion

Btw, awesome addon even though it requires alot of time, it is in the end the most customisable buff/debuff/powergain monitor. ^^b

I just wish there were more generic filter options like instead of whitelisting all the power gains u want to see (power infusion, eye of the broodmother, storm power from hodir, etc.) there should be an easier way to have a power gains buff bar. Perhaps I am doing things the hard way and there actually is an easy way around this that I've completely missed or maybe this is just a bit too hard to code currently <_>.

Currently, I have to sort out 4 bars independantly.

1st bar (buffs) - general buffs like gotw, fort, ab, auras.
2nd bar (temporary raid heals/shields on me) - hots, pw:s, inspiration, ancestral healing, etc cast on me by raid (including myself).
3rd bar (power gains through boss/players/self/items) - power gains like natures grace, eclipse, power infusion, bloodlust, storm power, trinkets, wild magic potion, etc.
4th bar (debuffs) - debuffs =)

My 3rd bar filter page currently looks like this:
n=Eye of the Broodmother
n=Nature's Grace
n=Bloodlust
n=Wild Magic Potion
n=Storm Power
n=Power Infusion
n=Clearcasting
etc etc

Do I really have to continue to whitelist all the power gains I can get in the game?

Heya

I also have a question about a filter.

I understood that NPC filters effects cast by Non- Player Controlled creatures ( like mobs ).

Yet when I set up a whitelist buff frame for a target and use NPC filter it shows me buffs that some other Player Character allied to my target. It seems to also how all my buffs then I target myself.

What does the NPC actually filter?

If I use c, which I understand to be 'Filter effects that your class can cast (but that you did not necessarily cast yourself)' and I want to track only my class buffs , I am under the impression it'll happen like this:

Using c only will also show me other people's buffs that can be cast on me (particularly for my priest, will show renews and shields and healing related things I wouldn't care about if I was DPSing).

Using my only will show procs from trinkets, tier bonuses, and other things that I did cast but are completely irrelevant.

Ideally, using c&my will give me only the relevant class spells that I actually need to pay attention to on multiple characters without using a different whitelist for every class.

Am I misunderstanding something? I mean, I can set up whitelists per class to achieve what I want, but I'd like to be able to distribute my UI once it's polished a little more without making people do too much initial setup.

Hmm... I must be doing something wrong then. I just retested this. Cleared out all my settings back to default. Created 1 frame to show 1 buff on player. Whitelist is selected. Only filter is "n=Sacred Shield&my". Nothing... Remove the &my and Sacred Shield appears. I tested this with other random paladin buffs and it behaved the same. Fwiw, "Cast By Me" is still grayed out.

One other thing -- Is it possible to have a bar background color that is 100% opaque? Even when setting the alpha to have a fully opaque bar, it isn't, it's something like 80% opaque.

I tried covering it up with kgpanels, but they aren't saving (or applying, or whatever) their strata/frame level data correctly and it's driving me nuts.

edit: It wasn't remembering background level 5 vs background level 0 but it'll remember low level 0 vs low level 1. Worked around it, leaving request up in case there are any other people who want the same.

It is a bug.

Edit:
1) The my filter is working correctly, as its check when looking at a live buff does not depend on castable. Make sure you set your frame to whitelist!

2) Under normal circumstances (c filter not bugged), using c&my is completely redundant and just wasting time for you. Use one or the other, not both together.

Yeah, exactly. But i think any Combat Event related to you will refresh the list, so you will only notice this behaviour when you are testing the setup. When you are actually fighting stuff, things should work out probably....

I am seeing the old issue where Spells -> "Cast by me" is grayed out. But this time, using the filter parameter &my just makes the buffs not show up at all. I am entirely open to this being user error... I'm just confused . I am running 3.1.13.
Thanks!
I can't get this to work with 3.1.13 either. I get the exact same errors. If I add "&my" to my filters, they just wont show up anymore. Anyone know how to fix it? I already deleted all SavedVariables two times and set it up from scratch -.-

Edit: I think this is not related to "c", i use full spell names in my filter, like "n=sacred shield&my"

Edit: I played around a bit and noticed that i can get the buff to show up eventually... i just have to buff something else afterwards. The filters wont show when they are cast, but one buff later -> it seems they always lag behind for one event.

I don't know if this is a bug or just the way it works in SBF, the problem is only there for "&my" filters tho.

Yep, there's an error (a logic error, not a race condition ) that stems from a different part of the code that is causing the castable filter to misbehave. Thanks for the pointer Lachnoir, it helped me identify the problem in about 20 seconds!

c Filters non-functional

I have been messing about trying to setup some class based debuff filters for my pally the past few days with limited success (I'm using 3.1.13 atm). I've setup a whitelist for target debuffs, filtering only on "c". The end result is that no debuffs ever appear in the frame (I had some other odd behaviour in 3.1.12 so I gave 3.1.13 a shot). The "my" filter does appear to behave correctly however. Curiousity got the bewtter of me and I took a peak at your code and at the contents of the saved variables file. It would appear that the class type is never being saved, hence the problems with the "c" filter.

You've got a bit of a race condition goin on here...

From line 67 of SBFUtil.lua

if (c == self.playerClass) and buff.castable then
self.db.global.spells[buff.name][4] = c
end

For spells that were not found in the db, buff.castable is nil and the class will never be added. Infact buff.castable is set from the return value of the method, hence your race condition (you're testing it before its even been set)

If you need more info from me please let me know...

Of course i could be way off base... I only ever delve into lua when I absolutely have to, so my interpretation of what is going on here could be skewed.

Cheers
