WoWInterface UI Manager - Windows  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.2.10
by: Shirik [More]
Please Note: This updater is being discontinued. We're allowing you to continue downloading this current version until the new one is ready, but please be aware that it may not work as well as could be hoped for.

======================================================

The WoWInterface UI Manager is a project that has been going on for nearly a year. With all the recent security problems at various addon sites, as well as the explicit targetting of executable updaters, as well as a few other issues we have delayed the production of this utility... until now.

After nearly six months of rigorous testing and in-house use, we are finally convinced of the security of the tool to present it to the public.

The WoWInterface UI Manager is a tool designed to help you keep track of installed addons, and assist in updating them quickly and easily. The UI Manager uses an internal API of WoWInterface so you can be sure it will continue to work even when site layout changes or if you choose a new skin.

Major Features
  • One-click Check allows the UI Manager to run through all of your addons quickly without any intervention. Any addons that do need to be updated will wait for your approval before continuing.
  • Multithreaded design allows for maximum use of your internet connection, processing complex compression for backup files while downloading other files at the same time.
  • Connection to the WoWInterface user database to retrieve your favorites list. This allows:
    • Quicker matching of already-installed addons to file IDs
    • Automatic install of missing favorites (after confirmation)
  • Automatic backups before every install
    • Before each install, the manager will create a restoration point which can later be used to revert to. It will include all configuration and saved information for the addon, as well as the Lua and XML scripts that ran it, so you can be sure you'll return to where you were.
    • Manual backups can be made (with or without Saved Variable data) of your entire Interface folder for easy restoration to a known-safe point.
    • Backups are compressed to help minimize space taken on the hard drive
    • An easy-to-use restoration manager can help you restore a backup, or restoration can be done easily without the manager by simply using the ZIP file found in the newly created "backups" folder.
  • All updates are compared against MD5 hashes before being installed to ensure security.
Download Choices
This is a portable program. This version is for Windows and includes only a Windows MSI Setup program. For a generic version (for Linux/Macintosh users), see this page.

Requirements (for all versions)
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or later, Macintosh OS X, or Linux Kernel 2.4 or later
  • Java version 1.5 or later
  • 64KB of RAM
  • 5MB Hard Drive Space
Command line options:
The JAR (Java Executable Archive) file accepts command line arguments to assist with problem cases. If you are having trouble with the program, try running the following line at a command prompt before submitting any kind of bug information:
Code:
java -jar wowiupdater.jar --verbose
This will produce a file "verbose.log" instead of the default "error.log" in the program's directory to assist with debugging.

Other Important Stuff
Please keep in mind the following:
  • This program is released under the GNU General Public License v2. Your redistribution, modification, etc., is subject to these terms. For details, please see the file "COPYING" located inside the (a) ZIP file for the ZIP package, or (b) Installation directory for the Windows setup package.
  • This program is the work of one author, and is not small by any means. I'm sure there are bugs, and unfortunately I cannot catch them all. This is a BETA RELEASE of the application and you should be aware that things may go wrong (though I have taken every precaution I can that if something DOES go wrong, you can hopefully recover from it -- but I cannot guarantee that). See the following point:
  • As required by the GPL, it is important that I point out the following:
    Code:
This program is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation, either version 2 of the License, or
(at your option) any later version.

This program is distributed in the hope that it will be useful,
but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of
MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. See the

You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License
along with this program. If not, see <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/>.
Please feel free to list any problems here. I will do my best to update frequently and respond accordingly.

Hi,

Sorry for the late response. I don't watch the comments too closely. In the future, posting to the bug reports area on my portal will catch my attention immediately

For some reason it's having trouble finding your interface folder, which it should have asked for. Do me a favor and open up a bug report for this problem so I can keep an eye on it Also in the bug report, can you please let me know where your World of Warcraft folder is located?

Thanks,
-- Shirik

P.S. I use Vista too so that's not the issue (or at least not all of it)

Version 0.2.10 r15 is posted. Please update when able. This is a critical update correcting several bugs including an issue where backups generated by the updater may be incomplete. Those backups can still be restored if desired, however they may be missing some characters' SavedVariables files.

Please post any issues in the bug reports section.

Thanks,
-- Shirik

Your 0.2.9 version still calls itself 2.8

And i cant update a single addon without an Internal Error.

Edit: PM'ing you the verbose log.

Release 0.2.9 is posted. This is a non-critical maintenance release resolving a minor issue regarding attempts to install to a directory that the updater has already visited but did not place a WID file in (due to corruption or other problems). Update is only required if "Unspecified I/O error" has been occurring on one or more addons.

Thanks to Portalius for the report.

The Swing library has also been upgraded to version 1.0.3 to improve performance and stability.

Please visit the front page for the download. This release is posted for Windows only -- other operating systems should be unaffected.

Regards,
-- Shirik

This bug appears to be fixed. The addon was actually being installed correctly, just two finalization steps could not complete. I've corrected that to account for both corruption and unexpected files.

Thanks for the report; 0.2.8 should be released shortly.

Ah, I think I know what's going on now.

"Install addons" was made for addons which are not currently installed on the computer at all. I'm going to assume that it's having trouble when it finds that it wants to write something to a location that already exists.

Let me take a look at it and get back to you. The "correct" way to have done it would have been to choose "register" for the addon, but I think I can make it work with install, too.

Thanks,
-- Shirik

EDIT: Just tested; I was able to reproduce the problem and my understanding of it is correct. I hope to have this adjusted by tonight.

To better discribe the problem for you Shirik, I went in to my addons folder, and deleted every file named "update.wid" to have a clean programstart.

I then choose "Install New" and selected all the addons I wanted to update through your program. After this it wanted me to confirm all of them one by one. After all this, the program looks like this:

If I instead spent ALONG time going through the "File -> Register Addons" and then press "Resolve" and sometimes enter the ID manualy, and sometimes are able to just choose Installe, and then go over all the addons once more to "Confirm" that you trule ment what you just spent "hours" doing ;P

In this process I was able to get most of the addons to say "Update compleate...". But If I missed "Confirming" one addon, It seams to be missed forever, unless I restart the hole process by once again deleting all "update.wid" in the addon folder.

I hope that this can give you some tips on whats wrong in this program, so you will be able to make a stable version that actually works.

I might be up for one more test run on this, but my patience in starting to run low.

Plz let me know if this was of any help

There is no way it could have done this on its own. It only pulls the most recent version from the server and installs them. The only way this would have happened is if you gave it an outdated ID. Delete the addon folder and then double-check the ID you are giving it. If you still have trouble, give me the ID and I'll look at it myself.

Also, double-check your favorites do not include outdated mods. It uses this to assist in detecting addons you want installed.

EDIT: I just checked your favorites list. You have several addons in there that have not been updated since 2006. If a second version exists on WoWInterface, you'll want to remove the old one from your favorites. If a new version does not exist on WoWInterface, but exists elsewhere, you will want to ensure you do not register that addon with the updater. I will be making a FAQ for this when I get time.

There were 2 mods that showed they needed to be updated, when I updated them I go in game and it tells me they are incompatible .The utility loaded in VERY old mods.
