WoWInterface UI Manager - Windows  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.2.10
by: Shirik [More]
Please Note: This updater is being discontinued. We're allowing you to continue downloading this current version until the new one is ready, but please be aware that it may not work as well as could be hoped for.

======================================================

The WoWInterface UI Manager is a project that has been going on for nearly a year. With all the recent security problems at various addon sites, as well as the explicit targetting of executable updaters, as well as a few other issues we have delayed the production of this utility... until now.

After nearly six months of rigorous testing and in-house use, we are finally convinced of the security of the tool to present it to the public.

The WoWInterface UI Manager is a tool designed to help you keep track of installed addons, and assist in updating them quickly and easily. The UI Manager uses an internal API of WoWInterface so you can be sure it will continue to work even when site layout changes or if you choose a new skin.

Major Features
  • One-click Check allows the UI Manager to run through all of your addons quickly without any intervention. Any addons that do need to be updated will wait for your approval before continuing.
  • Multithreaded design allows for maximum use of your internet connection, processing complex compression for backup files while downloading other files at the same time.
  • Connection to the WoWInterface user database to retrieve your favorites list. This allows:
    • Quicker matching of already-installed addons to file IDs
    • Automatic install of missing favorites (after confirmation)
  • Automatic backups before every install
    • Before each install, the manager will create a restoration point which can later be used to revert to. It will include all configuration and saved information for the addon, as well as the Lua and XML scripts that ran it, so you can be sure you'll return to where you were.
    • Manual backups can be made (with or without Saved Variable data) of your entire Interface folder for easy restoration to a known-safe point.
    • Backups are compressed to help minimize space taken on the hard drive
    • An easy-to-use restoration manager can help you restore a backup, or restoration can be done easily without the manager by simply using the ZIP file found in the newly created "backups" folder.
  • All updates are compared against MD5 hashes before being installed to ensure security.
Download Choices
This is a portable program. This version is for Windows and includes only a Windows MSI Setup program. For a generic version (for Linux/Macintosh users), see this page.

Requirements (for all versions)
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or later, Macintosh OS X, or Linux Kernel 2.4 or later
  • Java version 1.5 or later
  • 64KB of RAM
  • 5MB Hard Drive Space
Command line options:
The JAR (Java Executable Archive) file accepts command line arguments to assist with problem cases. If you are having trouble with the program, try running the following line at a command prompt before submitting any kind of bug information:
Code:
java -jar wowiupdater.jar --verbose
This will produce a file "verbose.log" instead of the default "error.log" in the program's directory to assist with debugging.

Other Important Stuff
Please keep in mind the following:
  • This program is released under the GNU General Public License v2. Your redistribution, modification, etc., is subject to these terms. For details, please see the file "COPYING" located inside the (a) ZIP file for the ZIP package, or (b) Installation directory for the Windows setup package.
  • This program is the work of one author, and is not small by any means. I'm sure there are bugs, and unfortunately I cannot catch them all. This is a BETA RELEASE of the application and you should be aware that things may go wrong (though I have taken every precaution I can that if something DOES go wrong, you can hopefully recover from it -- but I cannot guarantee that). See the following point:
  • As required by the GPL, it is important that I point out the following:

Please feel free to list any problems here. I will do my best to update frequently and respond accordingly.

Rawr. The only problem I'm having is that... it's not working ._. .

After choosing which addons are from WoWI, I get a "Suspended: More Information is Required" for every addon. So, I went and added the info for Lightheaded (which was at the top of my list), and after the Downloading bar, it says a New version is out, and that I need to click the Confirm Button, then Install. After I click it, however, it gives me "Error - Internal Error". : /

Getting exactly the same, would this have anything to do with permissions?

It shouldn't have anything to do with permissions. Basically "Internal error" means that the thread crashed while updating (not good). If you wouldn't mind, there should be an "error.log" file in your program folder. If you could copy-paste that here, that would be awesome. If it's long, paste it to http://wowi.pastey.net and then post a link here.

This seems to be happening quite a bit since we changed the XML to fix the last bug, so I think we might have broke something in the process. I just need to know exactly what it is.

Thanks,
-- Shirik

EDIT: Fred, what addon is that so I can take a look at it?

For all of you with the "Internal Error" problem, I just want you to know that I have made significant progress on the problem and it should be fixed shortly. So far I have found a total of 3 distinct bugs that are interacting with each other to produce the problem. They all stem from the same root cause -- I did not anticipate a specific way an author may have packaged his/her addon.

When this is fixed, I will rebuild the setups, etc., and release 0.2.7. You can watch the bug here:

http://www.wowinterface.com/portal.p...bug&bugid=4250

Thanks for the reports,
-- Shirik

P.S. Please, in the future, keep bug reports on the bug tracker page so I can actually track them all instead of me having to remember them all in my head

Version 0.2.7 has been released. Please update when able - this update is a non-critical maintenance fix regarding several reported bugs which were resulting in the inability to update some or all addons. Uninstallation before running the setup file is not necessary - the setup file is capable of determining if the program is already installed and taking care of this appropriately.

Great work on the update! seems to be working almost flawless now

after some working around in it, I have to it watch all the addons I'v downloaded from wowinterface.

There are some minor problems though.

When you use the "Install new addon" it shows you a list of favorite addons which is really great, but when I selected one of the addons I wanted to update from that list it came up with the "Error - Unspecified I/O Error" still.

When I instead choose the same addon from the "File -> Register Addons" it worked just as it should... very wired

Its not the biggest of problems, but its still something that needs fixing in the future.

I'm also stil missing an option to "Delete installed addons" from within the program. I feature much like the one the wowace-update program has, and ofcause I way to scan the WTF folder for unused files is always nice to have.

Anyway, most exelent work on this program so far

Not updating

First of all let me say thanx. I have been waiting for WoWInterface to have an addon updater so thanx

I have set up the updater correct, copied the UID's for various mods and let it do it's thing. But all that it seems to do i put a zip folder in each of the addons folders. There is no way i can tell if the addons i have asked it to update actually updated. It tells me the addon is up to date but i have checked various addons .lua and .toc's in both the addon folder and in the zip file that your prgoram puts in the addon folder and they seem to be identicle. Is that supposed to happen??

Example Natur Enemy Castbar Changlelog:
Actaul Addon Folder:
29.01.08 '''Natur EnemyCastBar 8.7.5'' | Localizations: China, Korea, Taiwan, England/US, Spain, France, Germany. (Use "/necb help" for INFO!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Only toc's and ingame version of the mod updated! ;-)

Changelog inside zip folder:
29.01.08 '''Natur EnemyCastBar 8.7.5'' | Localizations: China, Korea, Taiwan, England/US, Spain, France, Germany. (Use "/necb help" for INFO!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Only toc's and ingame version of the mod updated! ;-).

and the name of the zip folder inside is named CEnemyCastBar_Natur8_7_5 which is the newest version out. I thought the zip files were supposed to be backups of teh old versions??

edit: I just check my ingame version of Lightheaded and it is r176 yet the latest version, which i used your program tp update and it said updated, is r177

The backup zip files will be placed in a folder "Backups." The zip file you see in the addons folder is merely what was downloaded from the site.

As for LightHeaded, I'll look into that.

Portalius, what is an addon that you tried that is causing this?

There is no way it could have done this on its own. It only pulls the most recent version from the server and installs them. The only way this would have happened is if you gave it an outdated ID. Delete the addon folder and then double-check the ID you are giving it. If you still have trouble, give me the ID and I'll look at it myself.

Also, double-check your favorites do not include outdated mods. It uses this to assist in detecting addons you want installed.

EDIT: I just checked your favorites list. You have several addons in there that have not been updated since 2006. If a second version exists on WoWInterface, you'll want to remove the old one from your favorites. If a new version does not exist on WoWInterface, but exists elsewhere, you will want to ensure you do not register that addon with the updater. I will be making a FAQ for this when I get time.
