Altoholic

Version: 6.2.007
by: Thaoky [More]

Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 addon written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one addon. The main feature of the addon is the search functionality which allows users to search their alts' bags or loot tables in an Auction-House-like frame (see screenshots). All this with multiple-realms/accounts support.

Paypal donations accepted at : thaoky.altoholic@yahoo.com

I've been playing WoW since the European release, and I used to rely on addons like character viewer to check my alts' inventory, but since it was more or less abandoned and not always stable for me, I decided to write an addon myself and to improve the search feature as much as I could. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do

The addon has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It's still not final, and although it has considerably evolved since the initial release, there are still a lot of things I haven't had time to implement yet.
Please note that this is my first addon, and that English is not my native language.

Features:

- Languages supported: enUS, frFR, deDE, esES, ruRU, zhCN & zhTW.

- Account-wide data summary:

• Characters' talents: Full talent trees & glyphs are supported for both specializations.
• Money, /played, rest xp for each character, subtotals by realm, and grandtotals for the account.
• Bag usage: see at a glance which characters should get bigger bags (bag size, free slots and types included)
• Characters' skills: skill summary on one screen, namely the 2 main professions + the 3 secondary skills as well as riding. I may add more if there's demand. Profession cooldowns included.
• Reputations: a list of all the reputations of the current realm's characters. You can see at a glance if all your alts are at least honored with Honor Hold if you want to get the new 2.4 blue PVP set. Suggestions on how to gring reputations will be available soon.

- View containers (bags, bank, keyring) of all alts, on all realms.

- Guild banks : You have 10 alts in 10 different guilds on the same server, all of them with access to a guild bank ? Not a problem, you can see them all here.

- E-mail: allows you to see which alts have mail without having to reconnect them. The addon will tell you when mail is about to expire on a character. Threshold configurable (up to 15 days). Multiple realm support as well. Mails sent to a known alt (one you've logged on at least once) will be visible in the addon without having to reconnect it.

- Equipment: See the equipment of the current realm's alts in one screen. Very useful when purchasing stuff for your alts at the AH. Multiple realms supported. Right-clicking any equipment piece will allow you to find an upgrade, this feature is similar to the official wow armory feature, and is quite performant, even though it doesn't match the accuracy of the official one.

- Search: the most important feature of the addon, it uses an AH-like frame to display search results. You can either search bags on the current realm, on all realms, or a loot table.
The loot table is a table based on AtlasLoot, but which contains only item id's, and therefore keeps memory usage minimal.

The Search menu allows you to find items based on their name (even partial), level, type or rarity, almost like at the AH. It is also possible to search known recipes.

- Quest Log: See the quest logs of all your alts, as well as an indication of which alts are on a specific quest. Clicking on a quest link in the chat log will tell you which alts are on that quest.

- Suggestions: Currently, only profession leveling suggestions are available when mousing over your current level in a specific profession. Suggestions are based on the leveling guides posted on the official US forums (credit goes to their respective authors). The addon also suggests you where to quest/grind xp depending on your character level.

Suggestions were also added for the most recent factions. More to come later.

- Auction house: You can see which auctions/bids you've placed with an alt without being logged in or being at the AH.

- Professions: You can browse all known recipes in a thotbot like frame (see screenshot).

- Mounts & Pets of all your alts.

- Achievements are tracked for all you alts (see screenshot).

- Guild Members: a list of your connected guildmates, along with their alts (if they're using Altoholic too), and their average item level. Clicking their AiL will also allow you to "remotely" inspect their equipment.

- Guild Skills: a list of altoholic users in your guild, along with their alts and direct profession links. All professions are available in one click.

- Guild Bank tabs: a list of altoholic users and the time at which they last visited the guild bank. If you haven't visited the guild bank for a few days, you can remotely update your local data without going to a capital city.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meager price to pay once per expansion.

6.2.007 (12/09/2015)

- Added Garona & Harrison Jones to the list of followers not recruited at the inn.
- Fixed guild bank tab icons displayed as a red square instead of the tab's icon.
- DataStore_Achievements: Fixed a Lua error at logon.

6.2.006 (17/08/2015)

Imported all changes made in the unofficial releases made during my absence.
Many thanks to those who took it upon themselves to provide fixes for all those issues.
To prevent confusing users, I will resume the version number based on Zwixx numbering, so if you used a version up to 6.2.005, you have to upgrade to this version.
Some fixes made by me before the release I was supposed to make after 6.2 are also included, so make sure to upgrade.

- DataStore_Reputations: added 6.2 factions. (Thanks Zwixx)
- DataStore_Inventory: added LFR loots. (Thanks Zwixx)
- DataStore_Garrisons: Fixed a Lua error when scanning followers. (Thanks Zwixx)
- Fixed tooltip related issues. (Thanks Zwixx)

- DataStore_Achievements: Fixed an issue where an earned achievement was not immediately saved to the DB, and was only read at next login.
- Fixed a silly bug that prevented you from searching professions.
- Account Summary -> Clicking on the level of any character toggles the display of decimals. This option is remembered across sessions.
- Account Summary -> Clicking on the AiL of any character toggles the display of decimals. This option is remembered across sessions.
- Created some extra templates to simplify the code (more on the way.. this happens bit by bit)

6.1.006 (08/05/2015)

- Updated list of archaeology projects with WoD projects. I apparently messed up and lost the file that contained the update in 6.1.001, it's now ok.
- Moved several UI templates to their own folder.
- Completely rewrote the Blizzard's DropDownMenu widget to use my own version.
I was tired of some of the constraints of their implementation, and of the loss of time it caused me every time I wanted to use one.
So I invested some time in making it my way.
- Account Summary -> The amount of uncollected garrison resources now appears in yellow when resources exceed 300, and in red when they exceed 450.
- Account Summary -> Added icons with drop-down menus to filter your list of alts by faction, level, profession and class.
- Account Summary -> Fixed the expand/collapse button that did not work anymore after the complete rewrite of the pane.
- Achievements lists updated ! (Thanks Bluemage29 for your help !!)
- Fixed a Lua error when viewing the Guild tab with an character not in a guild.

6.1.005 (20/04/2015)

- The garrison mission tooltip now shows a red exclamation mark '!' when no missions are active.
- In the account summary, the last column used to sort the view is now remembered, and is restored when you log in again.
- Character's tab: fixed a lua error when mousing over the professions' icon of a character that does not have 2 professions.
- Account Summary: modified the garrison followers pane to show followers at iLvl 675 and a column for their weapon/armor iLvl.

6.1.004 (11/04/2015)

- Fixed sorting the account summary by "Last Online" where the order was sometimes incorrect.
- Added an option to show the tooltip counters without details (no 'equipped', 'bank', ..). Disabled by default.
- No longer wiping the list of followers before scanning them.
- Added a tooltip to the garrison resources in the account summary, it now shows when resources were last collected, and when you will reach the maximum of uncollected resources.
- Fixed incorrect tooltip after multiple searches in the search tab.
- DataStore_Garrisons: Some clean-up to properly report active missions.
- The garrison mission tooltip that shows a '*' when missions are complete now shows it in red if all active missions are complete.

6.1.003 (07/04/2015)

REMINDER: If you are looking for a free Heroes of the Storm Beta key for the European Region, you should check the comments section on Curse & WoW Inteface.. I still have a few keys to give away.

- Fixed a few lua errors in the account summary tab.
- Added Draenor LFR dungeons to the Grids->Dungeon Finder pane.

6.1.002 (06/04/2015)

- Updated scanning of currencies (honor points), total no longer needs to be divided by 100 since 6.1.
- Updated the garrison followers pane in the account summary to show followers with an iLvl greater than 660.
- DataStore Characters: updated GetRestXPRate() to account for Pandaren extra rest xp.
- Fixed Auction House scanning, and cleaning of expired auctions.
- The summary tab has been fully rewritten so that all 6 panes use the same frames.
This will make the addition of future content much easier.
Some new features here and there while I was at it (quality of life improvements mostly), I'll let you discover them :)
This is an update I wanted to do for a long time, and there are more things planned (more filters).. the other tabs will get an update too.

6.1.001 (25/02/2015)

- Added support for Garrison missions ! Warnings are not in yet, but available and active missions are now visible in the characters' tab.
Note: Active missions can only be correctly tracked if the mission is started with this version of Altoholic, so currently active missions will be visible, but their expiration will not. Sorry, this info is not provided by the game, I have to "manually" keep track of it.
- Fixed the spam of mail expiry warnings, this time for good (hopefully ! feedback appreciated on this one!).
- Now refreshing the follower's pane immediately when the followers' list is updated.
- Updated list of followers not recruited at the inn.
- Updated list of archaeology projects with WoD projects.
- Cleaned up the .pkgmeta of DataStore modules, my sources tell me this should prevent some problems with the Curse Client :) (Thanks Myrroddin !)
- Removed "already known/could be learned by" information from tooltips for companions, as they have been account-wide for a while.
- More code cleanup.

Note: I made several attempts at fixing the double guild bank counters in the tooltip, thanks to all of you who sent me their SV files, the issue is now clear.
Nevertheless, a complete perfect fix is not yet possible, as Blizzard does not provide the real/full realm name to which the guild actually belongs.
The best I can get in my case is "MarécagedeZangar" when I actually expect "Marécage de Zangar", and that value is nowhere to be found in the API.
Long story short, I have to come up with a way to work around this that does not force you guys to respect weird conditions to make it work..

Great add on, first time trying it out and I get the following error.

 "Altoholic-v3.2.001d\\Frames\\TabOptions.lua:260: attempt to index field 'options' (a nil value)\nAltoholic-v3.2.001d\\Altoholic.lua:1633: in function ?'\nCallbackHandler-1.0-3 (Ace3):146: in function <...Ons\\Ace3\\CallbackHandler-1.0\\CallbackHandler-1.0.lua:146>\n:\"safecall Dispatcher[1]\":4: in function <[string \"safecall Dispatcher[1]\"]:4>\n: ?\n:\"safecall Dispatcher[1]\":13: in function ?'\nCallbackHandler-1.0-3 (Ace3):91: in function Fire'\nAceEvent-3.0-3 (Ace3):119: in function \n\n ---"
It happens as soon as it's loaded. Not enough to effect game play so far but does spam my error file.

Thanks

Originally posted by ckaotik i merged my data and that of another account and now receive errors en masse ... dunno if it's connected
It seems like it actually IS connected! I noticed today that I accidentally named the second account's data wrong ... so I ended up with my own data plus twice the data of the other account. When I deleted the data from the first time I synched I couldn't help but notice the error flood went missing.
Might just be random, but as of now, I don't get that error any more. Hurray!

One more thing: When I transferred those "faulty" bits of data (the first time) it took forever ... also, Altoholic didn't quite like the idea of both sides sending and requesting data at the same time. Maybe something went wrong there wich caused a little (or not so little) data inconsistency

You guys are both right actually. Under normal conditions, no addon could cause a crash. But in certain cases, it's possible to cause deadlocks when 2 addons respond to one another without knowing it. I once faced a situation where I was responding to certain values being in the tooltip, and the presence of another addon made it so that the conditions were filled when I did not expect it, and only in another foreign language. Result ? deadlock & freeze. Solution ? I used my own tooltip object instead of GameTooltip.

Deadlock or crash, it's roughly similar, bad code = problems. I strive to limit my mistakes to classic Lua errors

That's not quite true. People have written small addons that replicate the "block too big" bug, which also results in a client crash:

There are also at least 3 threads on wowace that show addons like CowTip triggering the issue:

I ditched a lot of addons during TBC to get away from that issue (especially Rock-based addons like CowTip) and I'm now more leery of addons that use a lot of resources.

I can't understand, what you are trying to say. Can you please put it in simple words, without a reference to something outside of the discussion?
I won't bother because I've now tested Altoholic and determined that it does indeed provide the feature despite the fact that nothing about tooltips is explicitly mentioned in the addon description. Had the word "tooltip" appeared anywhere in the addon description, I wouldn't have asked the question.

Uh, no, there is nothing about standard game item tooltips mentioned in the addon info. I'm talking about the type of functionality that WhoHas provides, since WhoHas does not support Altoholic.
I can't understand, what you are trying to say. Can you please put it in simple words, without a reference to something outside of the discussion?

Again you misunderstand what I said. Altoholic says it has an item browser to help you find upgrades. I have an addon named Pawn that lets you use custom weight tables (much better than GearScore!) to evaluate individual pieces of gear. It would be awesome if the two were integrated (e.g. a Pawn value column on in the Altoholic gear browser).
It's all subjective and tend for consideration.
I'm using RatingBuster with a hand-made script to ease it's usage.

I'm happy enough with Armory at the moment that I can afford to wait for answers. I was at work when I posted yesterday, where I'm not able to access WoW. I installed Altoholic from Curse last night but it wasn't packaged properly and wouldn't run (was missing the Datastore dependencies), and I didn't have time to try again after re-downloading it from here.
It's understandable. Please don't take my comment as a personal offense.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried Altoholic for myself last night and noticed a similar memory footprint for 8-10 characters. 4MB is pretty acceptable for the amount of data being tracked.

Well, depending on the complexity, it might be worth adding that into DataStore directly, if DataStore modules can provide LDB feeds, it would further simplify the life of authors

Help would really be welcome because I'm starting to have a hard time keeping up with the load of work alone

Originally posted by ckaotik Another topic, I still don't really get the gear browser part ... I find it too hard to use (so, I'll search for items, right? oh noes, I didn't want to go THERE...) and it's use is quite ... limited. Actually, I myself use AtlasLoot (and AtlasLootReverse, for the tooltip info. Altoholic's is just ... too out of date, sorry mate) + Pawn. I don't even know if Altoholic's browser works with all those weird mp5-patterns ingame, I know it didn't about half a year ago
Actually, it's true that it might not be too obvious, but to find gear upgrades, you have to be in the equipment pane, otherwise, you wouldn't see the stats. I have plans to further improve the search feature, but again, it's quite big and I can't say when that will happen.

(a nil value) i merged my data and that of another account and now receive errors en masse ... dunno if it's connected also, when synchronizing those two accounts, it sometimes messes up bigtime, probably losing some data. you can see it when hovering - again - specific items, where it completely loses all tooltip lines. sometimes you can "fix" it by using a selective part of data to transfer. imagine this: character a from account A requests b from B to share his data. while synchronizing, hovering any item is fine. when synchronizing is done though, the tooltips will fail and provide no information but create heaps of error messages. with the top one avoided (if-then-else query), this still pops up when hovering an item. first it was when hovering cobalt ore, now it's frostweave bandages. it might as well be that i tempered around with your getcharacterclasscolor function as that threw errors as well .......
I'll dig this in detail to see what's going on. Thanks for reporting.

I saw your comment about the "block too big" issue, nothing to be afraid of, I'm always extra cautious when it comes to memory allocation (I'm a C programmer too).

Originally posted by Hevanus 2. Can Altoholic add info to item tooltips regarding which alts (bags, mailboxes, personal banks, etc.) / guild banks have how much of that item?
Yes: Banks, guild banks, mailbox, AH.

Originally posted by Hevanus 3. I see that Altoholic has features that help you find equipment upgrades. Have you thought about implementing weight tables or some kind of Pawn integration to help the user better evaluate gear?
The equipment upgrade takes your item level and/or item stats (tooltip parsing) and finds upgrades in a way that is similar to the official armory, try it or look at the screenshot, it's pretty explicit.

I haven't used Pawn, and I do not intend to review this feature in the near term (not before 4.0, since blue will change the way stats are treated).

No data feed, only a launcher. At best, I could implement the feeds in DataStore modules, but I'd clearly need info on that (sorry, no time to dig for it myself right now).

Added to my list.

Originally posted by AnrDaemon Hmm... I can remember this has been mentioned before, but now, I got to it once again, now on a more serious matter. Issue is: It would be good if we could have a kind of planner along with mere tracking functionality.
Adding a wishlist/planner/todolist, whatever the name, has been on my mind since the very beginning. It's still something I want to do, and the calendar was a step into this direction. There will be more calendar related features in the coming months, and that one will be part of it, I just can't say when.

My todolist keeps growing, and I think that there's enough on it to keep me busy for at least another year

Altoholic itself does provide an LDB plugin, but as AnrDemon said, it's only a launcher. Despite that, I create an addon to track your currencies (emblems, honor ...), it uses the newly used DataStore part of Altoholic.
One could create several such broker addons by using data which DataStore .. well ... stores But as of now I don't know of any other addons that do those jobs.

Another topic, I still don't really get the gear browser part ...
