Altoholic  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 6.2.007
by: Thaoky [More]

Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 addon written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one addon. The main feature of the addon is the search functionality which allows users to search their alts' bags or loot tables in an Auction-House-like frame (see screenshots). All this with multiple-realms/accounts support.

About the addon & the author

I've been playing WoW since the European release, and I used to rely on addons like character viewer to check my alts' inventory, but since it was more or less abandoned and not always stable for me, I decided to write an addon myself and to improve the search feature as much as I could. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do

The addon has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It's still not final, and although it has considerably evolved since the initial release, there are still a lot of things I haven't had time to implement yet.
Please note that this is my first addon, and that English is not my native language.

Features:

- Languages supported: enUS, frFR, deDE, esES, ruRU, zhCN & zhTW.

- Account-wide data summary:

  • Characters' talents: Full talent trees & glyphs are supported for both specializations.
  • Money, /played, rest xp for each character, subtotals by realm, and grandtotals for the account.
  • Bag usage: see at a glance which characters should get bigger bags (bag size, free slots and types included)
  • Characters' skills: skill summary on one screen, namely the 2 main professions + the 3 secondary skills as well as riding. I may add more if there's demand. Profession cooldowns included.
  • Reputations: a list of all the reputations of the current realm's characters. You can see at a glance if all your alts are at least honored with Honor Hold if you want to get the new 2.4 blue PVP set. Suggestions on how to gring reputations will be available soon.

- View containers (bags, bank, keyring) of all alts, on all realms.

- Guild banks : You have 10 alts in 10 different guilds on the same server, all of them with access to a guild bank ? Not a problem, you can see them all here.

- E-mail: allows you to see which alts have mail without having to reconnect them. The addon will tell you when mail is about to expire on a character. Threshold configurable (up to 15 days). Multiple realm support as well. Mails sent to a known alt (one you've logged on at least once) will be visible in the addon without having to reconnect it.

- Equipment: See the equipment of the current realm's alts in one screen. Very useful when purchasing stuff for your alts at the AH. Multiple realms supported. Right-clicking any equipment piece will allow you to find an upgrade, this feature is similar to the official wow armory feature, and is quite performant, even though it doesn't match the accuracy of the official one.

- Search: the most important feature of the addon, it uses an AH-like frame to display search results. You can either search bags on the current realm, on all realms, or a loot table.
The loot table is a table based on AtlasLoot, but which contains only item id's, and therefore keeps memory usage minimal.

The Search menu allows you to find items based on their name (even partial), level, type or rarity, almost like at the AH. It is also possible to search known recipes.

- Quest Log: See the quest logs of all your alts, as well as an indication of which alts are on a specific quest. Clicking on a quest link in the chat log will tell you which alts are on that quest.

- Suggestions: Currently, only profession leveling suggestions are available when mousing over your current level in a specific profession. Suggestions are based on the leveling guides posted on the official US forums (credit goes to their respective authors). The addon also suggests you where to quest/grind xp depending on your character level.

Suggestions were also added for the most recent factions. More to come later.

- Auction house: You can see which auctions/bids you've placed with an alt without being logged in or being at the AH.

- Professions: You can browse all known recipes in a thotbot like frame (see screenshot).

- Mounts & Pets of all your alts.

- Achievements are tracked for all you alts (see screenshot).

- Guild Members: a list of your connected guildmates, along with their alts (if they're using Altoholic too), and their average item level. Clicking their AiL will also allow you to "remotely" inspect their equipment.

- Guild Skills: a list of altoholic users in your guild, along with their alts and direct profession links. All professions are available in one click.

- Guild Bank tabs: a list of altoholic users and the time at which they last visited the guild bank. If you haven't visited the guild bank for a few days, you can remotely update your local data without going to a capital city.

- I'd like to thank my guild, Odysseüs on EU-Marécages de Zangar, for assisting me since the earliest phases, thanks guys for everything you've done
- Thanks to the wowace community, you've been very helpful and this addon would not be there without the technical answers you gave me (especially Xinhuan, author of BankItems)

IMPORTANT NOTE: As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meager price to pay once per expansion.

6.2.007 (12/09/2015)

- Added Garona & Harrison Jones to the list of followers not recruited at the inn.
- Fixed guild bank tab icons displayed as a red square instead of the tab's icon.
- DataStore_Achievements: Fixed a Lua error at logon.

6.2.006 (17/08/2015)

Imported all changes made in the unofficial releases made during my absence.
Many thanks to those who took it upon themselves to provide fixes for all those issues.
To prevent confusing users, I will resume the version number based on Zwixx numbering, so if you used a version up to 6.2.005, you have to upgrade to this version.
Some fixes made by me before the release I was supposed to make after 6.2 are also included, so make sure to upgrade.

- DataStore_Reputations: added 6.2 factions. (Thanks Zwixx)
- DataStore_Inventory: added LFR loots. (Thanks Zwixx)
- DataStore_Garrisons: Fixed a Lua error when scanning followers. (Thanks Zwixx)
- Fixed tooltip related issues. (Thanks Zwixx)

- DataStore_Achievements: Fixed an issue where an earned achievement was not immediately saved to the DB, and was only read at next login.
- Fixed a silly bug that prevented you from searching professions.
- Account Summary -> Clicking on the level of any character toggles the display of decimals. This option is remembered across sessions.
- Account Summary -> Clicking on the AiL of any character toggles the display of decimals. This option is remembered across sessions.
- Created some extra templates to simplify the code (more on the way.. this happens bit by bit)

6.1.006 (08/05/2015)

- Updated list of archaeology projects with WoD projects. I apparently messed up and lost the file that contained the update in 6.1.001, it's now ok.
- Moved several UI templates to their own folder.
- Completely rewrote the Blizzard's DropDownMenu widget to use my own version.
I was tired of some of the constraints of their implementation, and of the loss of time it caused me every time I wanted to use one.
So I invested some time in making it my way.
- Account Summary -> The amount of uncollected garrison resources now appears in yellow when resources exceed 300, and in red when they exceed 450.
- Account Summary -> Added icons with drop-down menus to filter your list of alts by faction, level, profession and class.
- Account Summary -> Fixed the expand/collapse button that did not work anymore after the complete rewrite of the pane.
- Achievements lists updated ! (Thanks Bluemage29 for your help !!)
- Fixed a Lua error when viewing the Guild tab with an character not in a guild.

6.1.005 (20/04/2015)

- The garrison mission tooltip now shows a red exclamation mark '!' when no missions are active.
- In the account summary, the last column used to sort the view is now remembered, and is restored when you log in again.
- Character's tab: fixed a lua error when mousing over the professions' icon of a character that does not have 2 professions.
- Account Summary: modified the garrison followers pane to show followers at iLvl 675 and a column for their weapon/armor iLvl.

6.1.004 (11/04/2015)

- Fixed sorting the account summary by "Last Online" where the order was sometimes incorrect.
- Added an option to show the tooltip counters without details (no 'equipped', 'bank', ..). Disabled by default.
- No longer wiping the list of followers before scanning them.
- Added a tooltip to the garrison resources in the account summary, it now shows when resources were last collected, and when you will reach the maximum of uncollected resources.
- Fixed incorrect tooltip after multiple searches in the search tab.
- DataStore_Garrisons: Some clean-up to properly report active missions.
- The garrison mission tooltip that shows a '*' when missions are complete now shows it in red if all active missions are complete.

6.1.003 (07/04/2015)

REMINDER: If you are looking for a free Heroes of the Storm Beta key for the European Region, you should check the comments section on Curse & WoW Inteface.. I still have a few keys to give away.

- Fixed a few lua errors in the account summary tab.
- Added Draenor LFR dungeons to the Grids->Dungeon Finder pane.

6.1.002 (06/04/2015)

- Updated scanning of currencies (honor points), total no longer needs to be divided by 100 since 6.1.
- Updated the garrison followers pane in the account summary to show followers with an iLvl greater than 660.
- DataStore Characters: updated GetRestXPRate() to account for Pandaren extra rest xp.
- Fixed Auction House scanning, and cleaning of expired auctions.
- The summary tab has been fully rewritten so that all 6 panes use the same frames.
This will make the addition of future content much easier.
Some new features here and there while I was at it (quality of life improvements mostly), I'll let you discover them :)
This is an update I wanted to do for a long time, and there are more things planned (more filters).. the other tabs will get an update too.

6.1.001 (25/02/2015)

- Added support for Garrison missions ! Warnings are not in yet, but available and active missions are now visible in the characters' tab.
Note: Active missions can only be correctly tracked if the mission is started with this version of Altoholic, so currently active missions will be visible, but their expiration will not. Sorry, this info is not provided by the game, I have to "manually" keep track of it.
- Fixed the spam of mail expiry warnings, this time for good (hopefully ! feedback appreciated on this one!).
- Now refreshing the follower's pane immediately when the followers' list is updated.
- Updated list of followers not recruited at the inn.
- Updated list of archaeology projects with WoD projects.
- Cleaned up the .pkgmeta of DataStore modules, my sources tell me this should prevent some problems with the Curse Client :) (Thanks Myrroddin !)
- Removed "already known/could be learned by" information from tooltips for companions, as they have been account-wide for a while.
- More code cleanup.

Note: I made several attempts at fixing the double guild bank counters in the tooltip, thanks to all of you who sent me their SV files, the issue is now clear.
Nevertheless, a complete perfect fix is not yet possible, as Blizzard does not provide the real/full realm name to which the guild actually belongs.
The best I can get in my case is "MarécagedeZangar" when I actually expect "Marécage de Zangar", and that value is nowhere to be found in the API.
Long story short, I have to come up with a way to work around this that does not force you guys to respect weird conditions to make it work..

Sorry, it is you misunderstood the way WoW client works.
It provides no ability to access data outside itself, including (excluding...) data on differrent accounts (too...), unless you explicitly share/syncronize data in some way.
That's what the "Accont Sharing" function does. Yes, you do need to have both accounts connected at the same time for the sharing. There's no other way for addon to work.
If you want to sync the data by other means (i.e. make a script that would rewrite DataStore SV's) - it's possible, but not for WoW addon.

You missed the point. I doubt you ever read or understand my post.

This addon works with 2 accounts when they both connect at the same time with the sharing, but it does not work if you usually only run one account at a time. Mainly because the data are saved in the account-based WTF directory, so you can never see any update on the alternate account unless you run both accounts constantly AT THE SAME TIME to keep up the sync.

I have tried the sharing and the sync does not work. The problem here is, when I run account A, usually my account B is offline. When I switch to account B, my account A is offline. They won't sync unless I run the other account at the same time (even if I don't play on it) intentionally to keep them on sync.

Well, maybe Altoholic is assuming that you always run 2 accounts on 2 PC at the same time. In that case, I think I can't count on it for multi-accounts, maybe just multi-characters on one account for limited use.

Using multiple accounts on same PC

Hi, I've just started using this addon.
I use 2 accounts with 20 characters. Basically I run them on the same computer, and only run both of them in the same time occasionally with an extra computer(because I'm not multiboxing and I can't operate both of them at the same time and it is usually auto-following only). At first I thought this addon would resolve my problem of unable to refer information of characters in my alternate account, looks like I still have my problem. The term 'Multi-Accounts' seems to refer to 'Multi-Characters', to be accurate.
I'm not sure if variables can be saved in WTF by an WoW-directory based location(under WTF/Account) instead of Account-based location (under WTF/Account/AccountName).
Without that feature, it would probably be impossible to handle a case like mine with Altoholic thought I really appreciate all the great works you have done in this addon.
Any idea can this case be handled?
Currently I can only refer to characters in the same account, not character in the other account, although their newest informations are in the same WTF/Account directory under different account-name subdirectories.

Now, if we could only talk arkayenro into incorporating your data store modules into ArkInventory.
That would be nice, I'd love to have another author's perspective on what's right/wrong/missing in DataStore. On my side, I need to work on detailing the API if I want other authors to follow. Now that the latest version is rather stable, I can work on that.

That's the kind of minor changes I make whenever I find the time.
I've stumbled upon this when fiddling with too long "Source: ..." strings that makes RatingBuster output unreadable. Just adding \n after a colon giving tooltip a better look in certain cases.

As for interesting note, the GameTooltip:AddLine() correctly treating the \n character, inserting a line break in there...
Now, i'm curious, is this more efficient way of making empty lines in tooltip, than an additional call of :AddLine(" ", ...)?

Edit: as an example, my shaman is level 80 and has 23354/1691700 xp, which is well slightly above 1% of xp in the next level.
thank you! sounds simple enough - i will give it a try.
once again... great addon, thanks.

Thaoky,

When I run all of my addons, sometimes the error is masked and sometimes it shows up as one of the first errors from a login. That is why I tested it with the list posted. This was a clean installation of World of Warcraft on a new OS install.

I will update on the results of the revised addon.

Already in, they're in the activity pane, when mousing over an alt's name.
I've got some more fixes to bring, then I'll implement them in their own pane.
