Version: 5.4.009
by: Thaoky [More]
Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 addon written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one addon. The main feature of the addon is the search functionality which allows users to search their alts' bags or loot tables in an Auction-House-like frame (see screenshots). All this with multiple-realms/accounts support.

About the addon & the author

I've been playing WoW since the European release, and I used to rely on addons like character viewer to check my alts' inventory, but since it was more or less abandoned and not always stable for me, I decided to write an addon myself and to improve the search feature as much as I could. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do

The addon has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It's still not final, and although it has considerably evolved since the initial release, there are still a lot of things I haven't had time to implement yet.
Please note that this is my first addon, and that English is not my native language.

- Languages supported: enUS, frFR, deDE, esES, ruRU, zhCN & zhTW.

- Account-wide data summary:
  • Characters' talents: Full talent trees & glyphs are supported for both specializations.
  • Money, /played, rest xp for each character, subtotals by realm, and grandtotals for the account.
  • Bag usage: see at a glance which characters should get bigger bags (bag size, free slots and types included)
  • Characters' skills: skill summary on one screen, namely the 2 main professions + the 3 secondary skills as well as riding. I may add more if there's demand. Profession cooldowns included.
  • Reputations: a list of all the reputations of the current realm's characters. You can see at a glance if all your alts are at least honored with Honor Hold if you want to get the new 2.4 blue PVP set. Suggestions on how to gring reputations will be available soon.

- View containers (bags, bank, keyring) of all alts, on all realms.

- Guild banks : You have 10 alts in 10 different guilds on the same server, all of them with access to a guild bank ? Not a problem, you can see them all here.

- E-mail: allows you to see which alts have mail without having to reconnect them. The addon will tell you when mail is about to expire on a character. Threshold configurable (up to 15 days). Multiple realm support as well. Mails sent to a known alt (one you've logged on at least once) will be visible in the addon without having to reconnect it.

- Equipment: See the equipment of the current realm's alts in one screen. Very useful when purchasing stuff for your alts at the AH. Multiple realms supported. Right-clicking any equipment piece will allow you to find an upgrade, this feature is similar to the official wow armory feature, and is quite performant, even though it doesn't match the accuracy of the official one.

- Search: the most important feature of the addon, it uses an AH-like frame to display search results. You can either search bags on the current realm, on all realms, or a loot table.
The loot table is a table based on AtlasLoot, but which contains only item id's, and therefore keeps memory usage minimal.

The Search menu allows you to find items based on their name (even partial), level, type or rarity, almost like at the AH. It is also possible to search known recipes.

- Quest Log: See the quest logs of all your alts, as well as an indication of which alts are on a specific quest. Clicking on a quest link in the chat log will tell you which alts are on that quest.

- Suggestions: Currently, only profession leveling suggestions are available when mousing over your current level in a specific profession. Suggestions are based on the leveling guides posted on the official US forums (credit goes to their respective authors). The addon also suggests you where to quest/grind xp depending on your character level.

Suggestions were also added for the most recent factions. More to come later.

- Auction house: You can see which auctions/bids you've placed with an alt without being logged in or being at the AH.

- Professions: You can browse all known recipes in a thotbot like frame (see screenshot).

- Mounts & Pets of all your alts.

- Achievements are tracked for all you alts (see screenshot).

- Guild Members: a list of your connected guildmates, along with their alts (if they're using Altoholic too), and their average item level. Clicking their AiL will also allow you to "remotely" inspect their equipment.

- Guild Skills: a list of altoholic users in your guild, along with their alts and direct profession links. All professions are available in one click.

- Guild Bank tabs: a list of altoholic users and the time at which they last visited the guild bank. If you haven't visited the guild bank for a few days, you can remotely update your local data without going to a capital city.

The FAQ has been moved here :

- I'd like to thank my guild, Odysseüs on EU-Marécages de Zangar, for assisting me since the earliest phases, thanks guys for everything you've done
- Thanks to the wowace community, you've been very helpful and this addon would not be there without the technical answers you gave me (especially Xinhuan, author of BankItems)
- Thanks to all the guys who are behind AtlasLoot, keeping the loot table up-to-date is a tremendous work, and the search functionality of Altoholic would not be what it is without your hard work.
- Thanks to Ayindi (wowace) & sLiz3r (curse) for the German translation.
- Thanks to NightOwl (wowace) for the zhTW translation.
- Thanks to Wang (wowace) for the zhCN translation.
- Thanks to Hellbot for the ruRU translation.
- Thanks to Laumac for the frFR translation.
- Thanks to IrregularByte for the esES translation.
- Brykrys for the LinkWrangler support.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're upgrading from 4.x :

- Make sure you delete the addon's databases in SavedVariables. ie: Altoholic.lua and all DataStore*.lua.
- Make sure to delete the old addon directories (Altoholic & all DataStore modules) as many files have changed/moved. A patch like this one is always a good opportunity for a fresh install.

5.4.009 (08/08/2014)

- Uncommented the code that actually deletes linked realms.. silly me !
- DataStore_Crafts: reworked the processing of events that actually trigger profession scanning.
Note: The current implementation is based (not 100%) on how professions are scanned in Ackis Recipe List (thanks Ackis :D).
So far the tests I have made show a serious improvement, but the way events are triggered may not be 100% consistent, especially with regards to the TRADE_SKILL_UPDATE event.
The addon should no longer miss scans (please report if you notice problems).
- DataStore_Mails: fixed some problems related to merged realms, it should now work without problems anymore.
- DataStore_Mails: fixed issues where mail attachments (sent or returned) could be saved twice in the recipient's mailbox.

Changes by ckaotik (Huge thanks !)
- DataStore : Read addon version from .toc
- DataStore : Current character/guild key can now be used by character/guild based methods
- DataStore : added a few methods to support overriding methods
- Many minor fixes in DataStore_Achievements, Agenda, Containers, Crafts, Inventory, Mails, Talents
- DataStore_Quests : fixed tracking of completed quests

5.4.008 (27/07/2014)

- Fixed MoP factions showing up as numbers.
- Suggested leveling zones are back in the account summary.
- Added an option to reset links between merged realms (some realms were marked as linked though they were not)
=> DataStore dropdown in the Account Summary
- Added an option to completely reset the DataStore databases, without having to manually delete the files in the SavedVariables folder
=> DataStore dropdown in the Account Summary

- Added an option to remember the faction filter across sessions. (Grids -> Reputations)
- Added an option to remember the currency filter across sessions. (Grids -> Currencies)
- Added an option to remember the companion filter across sessions. (Grids -> Companions)
- Added an option to remember the mount filter across sessions. (Grids -> Mounts)
- Added an option to remember the tradeskills filter across sessions. (Grids -> Tradeskills)
- Added an option to remember the archaeology filter across sessions. (Grids -> Archaeology)
- Item counts for guilds on merged realms should now be visible too (sorry can't test this myself).

5.4.007 (24/07/2014)

- Added missing faction "Emperor Shaohao".
- Altoholic: removed LibBabble-Faction
- DataStore_Reputations: removed LibBabble-Faction.
- Fixed lua error when using the search function.

5.4.006 (22/07/2014)

- Fixed double item counts in the tooltip.
- Improved the search functionality to be less restrictive.
- DataStore_Containers now triggers extra events for client addons.
- DataStore_Inventory now triggers extra events for client addons.
- DataStore_Auctions now triggers extra events for client addons.
- DataStore_Mails now triggers extra events for client addons.

5.4.005 (21/07/2014)

- Fixed bugs related to full names (name+realm) in the Guild tab.
- Added a pane in the account summary to show the PVE & PVP currencies.
- Added tooltip support for connected realms.
Note: DataStore needs to learn about connected realms, to do so, send 1 mail to an alt on a connected realm.
The connection is understood both ways (realm A to B, and B to A) with a single mail.
If you are connected to more than 1 realm, send 1 mail per link.
Ex: for 3 realms, send 1 mail from realm A to B, one from A to C, and one from B to C.
The mail can consist of just text, no attachment or gold required.
- Added an option to show/hide item count from connected realms.
- Added support for mails sent to/returned from alts on connected realms.
Note: Realm names are packed ("Marécage de Zangar" => "MarécagedeZangar") by Blizzard, this is supported.
If you notice something weird with your realm, please report it.
- Altoholic: removed LibBabble-Zone
- Updated the internal loot table and removed duplicate entries also found in LPT.
- DataStore_Inventory: removed LibBabble-Zone.
- DataStore_Reputations: removed LibBabble-Zone.
- Removed leveling suggestions from the character level tooltip in the account summary, as this information is now part of the game's world map.
- Updated the AiL tooltip, level 60 & 70 dungeons are now commented (tooltip was getting long), and level 90 was added. (Thanks Pseudopath on WoWinterface)
- Fixed issues related to scanning void storage (Thanks Lombra !)
- Several minor fixes (Thanks Lombra again !!)

5.4.004 (07/10/2013)

- Fixed showing the item source for crafts in the tooltip.
- Fixed LibCraftInfo.

5.4.003 (06/10/2013)

- Created and added support for 3 new libraries : LibCraftInfo, LibCraftLevels, LibCraftReagents.
These libraries intend to replace the lost functionality caused by tables reset to zero in LibPeriodicTable.
I now have my own dataminer, so these tables should be easier to maintain when a patch hits.
I also cleaned up some hard coded tables to now use the libraries instead.
Overall, the addon now consumes a little bit more memory, but the data sources are way more complete than before.

- Replaced the internal list of recipes by LibCraftInfo.
- Fixed the Characters -> Profession pane no longer showing reagents due to LPT changes.
- Fixed the Grids -> Tradeskills pane no longer correct due to LPT changes.

5.4.002 (17/09/2013)

- Fixed profession levels reported as 0.

5.4.001 (11/09/2013)

- Added new 5.4 achievements.
- Removed a call to GetArenaTeam in DataStore_Stats.

5.3.003 (01/08/2013)

- Added missing reputations (Thanks Daovan !)
- The source of an item is no longer read/displayed in the tooltip if combat lockdown is active.
- Fixed a risk of profile reset when DataStore_Agenda is disabled.
- Updated glyphs (Thanks Zartsoft)
- Implemented RGriedel's fix for profession cooldown, hopefully they should be correct for both US & EU now (Thanks RGriedel!)
- Fixed a tainting issue in DataStore_Talents. (Thanks Warloxx!)

5.3.002 (29/05/2013)

- Fixed skill levels reported as 0.

Note: The problems does not fix itself with this new version. To fully fix it, you need to populate the database with new profession links.
To do this, log all your alts one by one, open their tradeskills, and ONLY THEN, open the skills pane in Altoholic to see that this character's
skill levels are ok. If not, it is merely a refresh issue.

As I said, the problem comes from the format of the profession links which has been changed by Blizzard, reload the whole thing, and you will be fine.

5.3.001 (28/05/2013)

- Fixed recipe colors at the Auction House (Thanks Elandril !).
- Fixed a lua error when DataStore_Agenda is disabled.
- Fixed profession cooldowns warnings, they are now hardcoded at 3 am (the game sometimes still returns midnight).
- Added a total AiL per realm in the account summary.

5.2.001 (12/03/2013)

- Added new pane in the 'Grids' tab to track dailies across all alts. Dailies are stored in DataStore_Quests and reset at 3am.
- Added 5.2 achievements.
- Added 5.2 pets.
- Fixed a bug while scanning reputations (Thanks Sylvannis !).
- Fixed a Lua error in the tabards pane.
- Added a safeguard to prevent tooltip errors when mousing over a recipe, this seems to be caused by other tooltip addons/libs.
- Added the Mantid archaeology race.
- Fixed scanning quest history.

Note: I have tried to look into an issue where profession cooldowns are announced at the wrong time, mostly for people playing on US realms.
Unfortunately, I could not make any solid tests (UK realms return me the same realm time as other EU realms .. weird).
If anyone can provide me with more info, I would gladly help.

Places to check in the code:
Altoholic\Events.lua: as of line 427
DataStore_Agenda\DataStore_Agenda.lua: look at how I set the variable clientServerTimeGap, see if results are consistent.

5.1.002 (24/02/2013)

- Updated both Achievements & Grids tab to show 11 characters per realm.
- Support for tabards is back.

5.1.001 (29/11/2012)

- Fixed 5.0.003 archive, DataStore_Achievements was missing.
- Fixed .Toc files not updated for 5.1 in previous release.

5.0.003 (28/11/2012)

- Re-fixed searching for heirlooms (Thanks JCinDE !).
- Scanning tabards is temporarily disabled, as it triggers an error I cannot fix right now.

5.0.002 (06/10/2012)

- Integrated the Void Storage to the container's UI (Characters -> Containers).
- Added Mists of Pandaria factions (Grids -> Reputations).
- Added Mists of Pandaria archaeology artefacts (Grids -> Archaeology).
- Added Mists of Pandaria crafts for each professions (Grids -> Tradeskills).
- Fixed a few Lua errors related to Battle Pets. They are temporarily NOT scanned at the Auction House.

Some features related to Battle Pets are now fully working, this is on my (neverending) to-do-list.

5.0.001d (13/09/2012)

- Fixed tooltips sometime being incorrect in Grids -> reputations & currencies.
- Fixed potential tainting issues due to the usage of the underscore in the code.
- Cleared a few source files that were no longer used.
- Fixed scanning of partially completed achievements.
- Fixed Lua errors that appeared in 5.0.5 due to a wrong spell ID for fishing.

Note about achievements:

Achievements partially completed on one alt. They will now appear a bit differently in the UI (especially when part of a series).
This is due to the values the game is returning.
Sometimes, the results may seem weird, BUT THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO TO FIX THAT !

It also makes no sense for me that some achievements in a series are character based, while some others are account based.
Ex: 100 HK is character based, but 25000 HK is account based ?
If you too think there is a problem here, then complain about it to Blizzard, as I will not write code to work around those inconsistencies.

5.0.001c (03/09/2012)

- Fixed tooltip showing "No data" for herbalism in the Skills pane.. for good this time !
- Fixed a Lua error when scanning glyphs.. for good this time too ! (Thanks Sylvannis)
- Fixed a Lua error when clicking on glyphs, blaming DataStore_Crafts and/or DataStore_Achievements.

- Note: About pets & mounts. I know that they are now account wide, but I will leave things as they are for a little while, that is at least until the expansion launches.
I want to see how things actually turn out to see what has value or not, or what could be modified to remain useful.

5.0.001b (02/09/2012)

- Fixed a Lua error when trying to scan glyphs on a low level character.
- Fixed a Lua error when scanning Inscription.
- Fixed invalid profession spell id's for Fishing & Herbalism.
- Fixed version number in .TOC
- Fixed a Lua error when mousing over a specific cell in the guild members pane.

5.0.001 (02/09/2012)

- Added support for itIT. If you can help with the translations, please go here:
- Updated Achievement lists, please advise if you notice errors (especially for horde players).
- Fixed many issues related to changes in MoP. Too much to list.
- Talent pane is temporarily disabled. It will be back soon.
- Changed all drop down definitions to prevent tainting (Thanks ckaotik !)
- Fixed a Lua error in Grids->Reputations when selecting guild reputation.
- Added missing Tol Barad achievement : Occu'thar (Thanks Daveo77)
- Fixed a few UI issues related to account sharing.
- Fixed searching item upgrades based on iLevel
- Moved the sumary tab into its own module, this is in preparation of future new features. If you encounter a problem due to this, please roll back to 4.3.003b. (Should be ok though)
- Fixed pets not sorted alphabetically in Grids->Pets.
- Added back the All-in-one view in Grids->Pets.

I don't know such addon. Care to provide a link?

On a more serious note, joke been told once is a joke. Twice is acceptable.
Multiple times - you are going to have people angry at you.

Write your own DataStore module and let altoholic syncronize it automatically across the guild.
Don't know yet if Altoholic allow guild-sync, though... THAT would be a request. Sorta.
Like... add *guild filter in authorisation pane.

It's not really direct to keeping skills, it's more of accessing them.
LilSparky's Workshop for example. Having them two working together is such a pain, i only accept it because i can't really live without both of them.

Oh, the other addon I was talking about was GuildAds, can be found on Curse if not here. It'sgreat, but has some old-data synching problems for our guild for some reason, so we've moved to ALT-O-Holic for everything and am hoping the author would be willing to add a few more guild-related features to make it the ultimate in guild interaction / management.

There will be another bugfix release tomorrow morning, I fixed 2 search-related issues.

Would it be possible in the future to add a Guild Forum within ALT-O-Holic? A place where there could be a few separate forums for various things? This would replace going out-of-game for most guilds and their members and would allow guild leaders to utilize ALT-O-Holic to manage even more things in-game such as extended Guild Information, Rules, etc...

We were using GuildAds but are switching to ALT-O-Holic since it's data seems to sync much more easily.
I would say that this is clearly out of scope. It's a very good idea, but it should be an addon on its own. *IF* I ever to decide to do something like this, it won't be in the near term, as there is still a lot I want to add before.

Or be able to request item(s) they need. ALT-O-Holic can and is becoming the go-to Addon for Guild Interaction & Management. My guildies love it!
.. that said, I'm not quitting wow anytime soon, and I'm a guild leader too, so who knows

A few things are planned, like the remote talent inspect, or remote achievements, and more. The one thing that is certain is that there will be more guild features, it's just that the forum can turn into a really big feature. If it sees the light of day, chances are it won't be in 2009.

@artphilia & AnrDaemon:

Indeed, the skill up thing is a known issue. At least it was an issue before DataStore. Let me explain.

Before DataStore, I was doing scanning the skills every time a CHAT_MSG_SKILL event was triggered, thus every time you gained a skill point. This implied expanding/collapsing headers which in return triggered another event to which other addons might have reacted, hence the potential slowdown.

When coding DataStore, since I was aware of the issue, I implemented a small way to avoid scanning everything. I only update the skill level of the appropriate skill by parsing the message (faster, does not trigger other events). This is applied in DataStore_Skills & DataStore_Crafts (and also reputations, but that's another story). The only case where there might remain a delay is when you gain a skill point after making a yellow/orange craft (ie: you gain a point, I scan tradeskills to get updated colors).

AnrDaemon, you mentioned LSW, is it still an issue now ? Based on what I just explained, what was problematic in 3.1 should no longer be in 3.2 (unless the TS window is opened).

Do this help you figuring out what may happen ? I'd really like to understand what's going on here.

It's still an issue with grey crafting for me. It stutters every time I craft something like bolt of frostweave or smelthing chunk of ore.
I'll try it without LSW in near future, and see what happen.

Which headers you are referring to in your "expanding/collapsing" phase? I was very curious all time, but forgetful when reaching forums.

BTW, issue I saw several times (I appreciate it was before DataStore), it still sometimes forgetting known recipes.

My question is this: It is even worth it to purge and rescan known recipes when you can't forget... damn, you can >.< I forgot.
Changing specialization triggers deleting of all specialization-related recipes.

Feature Request

Would like to see a clickmodifier feature for tradeskill matts like TradeSkillInfo has.

Currently I keep TradeSkillInfo around for that feature and would like to see it added to altoholic so I can remove it all together.

What it does is allow you to click a modifier on a TradeSkill matt and it would open a window and show you all the "known" tradeskills that could use that particular matt.

This would free up some more memory space because then I would no longer need TradeSkillInfo since this mod already does all it does except for the matts click feature.

Thanks again for a awesome mod.

If you ever need someone to twiddle around with on ideas for anything guild related, let me know, I'm one of those overly organized and constantly trying to tweak things out for the benefit of our members kind of leaders, and can tell you're the same way.

Bug with the new version

Found out this morning when pulling items out of mail altoholic is now doubling up my available items. If I have none of an item on me or in bank and 2 in mail it tells me I have 2. Pull 1 from mail it says I now have 1 in inventory and 2 in mail. Pull the 2item item from mail it says I now have 2 in inventory and 2 in mail. I sure wish this was true I could get rich fast! It seems to clear itself up on a relog but its still a problem.

Ideas... Overflowing... Can't... Hold... Back...

We can call it: Guild-O-Holic... Uh oh, I'm excited... my brain... can't... stop... dreaming... up... ideas...

-Separate ALT-O-Holic's Guild Features into it's own Addon.
-InGame Guild Forms with Editable subForums and Officer or nonOfficer Access.
-Item Request / Have Listing with Timer to List.
-Enhanced Blizzard Calendar View (Removal of Blizz Events showing if possible.)
-Ability to see all Guild Member Talents, Skills (Crafting and Action Skills), and anything else that wouldn't be invading their privacy, lol.
-Guild Information on the main Guild-O-Holic summary page with the MotD, a Guild Description (For New Members), and a spot to show Guild Rules, Rank Structure, Guild Bank Rules and maybe something else we can think of.
-Maybe an ability to limit specific things based on guild member rank perhaps.
-More to come if interested.

LDB PlugIn similar to GuildFu, but with clicky to open the member's Guild-O-Holic Info Page, which shows their Equipment, or Character Summary. Be interesting to see the layout for this, ALT-O-Holic is the foundation for so many Guild related possibilities it's endless! No more guild web sites please! :-D

I am having the same problem too with doubling up items - I have placed items on AH - and then cancelled them - yet it still says I have those items on the AH.

I have disabled datastore to stop the problem being displayed? any advice?

Ps this is a great addon as I have 5x alts with different professions - its an easy way to check between all my mats and crafting recipes

thx again

Mail Expiring Warning

Altoholic remains one of my favorite AddOns ever, it makes my WoW-life so much easier, so many times a day (10 characters, all classes, all professions)! Thanks sincerely for all the work you've put into this thing.

One quick thing I noticed after updating a couple days ago - the Mail Expiration warning window used to pop up only once, on login (I'm pretty sure - admittedly my memory can be dodgy). Now it seems to re-pop up every time I zone, or die, or enter an instance, or leave an instance, etc. It's like a nagging wife that won't leave me alone hehe - just wanted to mention.

Keep up the awesome work!
