EventAlert  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.7.6
by: CurtisTheGreat [More]

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

This mod tracks the following events/procs:

  • Death Knight
    • Cinderglacier (Runeforging)

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

4.7.6
Bugfix: Fixed problem with spell charges not showing up on alerts.
Bugfix: Fixed problem with alerts not showing when options changed without a reload.
Change: Added option to show/hide spell charges.

To see the full change log, view the changelog.txt file included in the EventAlert zip file.

Missing spells

This is aimed at DK's, I have been out of town for a week and I had a list of the missing spells/procs but I don't have that list anymore. However there are 2 that do come to mind that need to be added to your list. They are Runeforged procs 1. Fallen Crusder 2. Razorice. Reasons these 2 need to be added is your current one you have already listed is used for lvling a DK until that DK can learn the 2 I listed. For raiding purposes, especially in the dps area, Fallen Crusader and Razorice are your bis enchants for dps DK's. And if others don't agree, who cares, they are entitled to their opinion and just having the option for all available spells/procs in this addon would be great. Lastly, I am very pleased you brought this back. One of the best addons I have come across.

**Update** Looked up the spells that proc from Fallen Crusader - Spell ID 53365 and from Razorice - Spell ID 50401. Also missing is talent from Unholy Tree - Blood-Caked Blade Spell ID that procs from that is 50463. From the Frost Tree - Icy Talons (assuming you use 5/5 points) Spell ID 58578.

It is possible, yes... but not something I would prob add. That is quite a bit of overhead, and the reason being is that I would have to dissect the entire combat log, the entire time you are in combat, to watch for something like that. That's a monster task for the addon to take on.

I will toy with it some and test memory levels and such, but I wouldn't count on something like that getting added.

When you try and move the icon from the icon options and it's still locked, you should be getting an error message in your chat window. I'll check and make sure it's still doing that and not bugging.

In the mean time:

Type: /ea opt
Click the icon options button.
Unlock the icon, so you can move it. (It's a checkbox at the top of the icon options window.)
Move the icon where you want it to be.
Re-lock the icon so you don't end up moving it around on accident.

In addition to that it seems that the Fireball! proc now does the same thing every now and then, however this one tends to reset itself properly after another Fireball! proc.
Well, at least we are closer! haha

I appreciate the report. So far, I still can't replicate the problem. Mind dropping me a private message here or message me on real ID (curtis AT fischerfam DOT net) so I can set up some times to test with you?

Thanks!

2. How to add a debuff on my target? Say I'm a shaman and want to see Flame Shock timer on boss (I know there are other addons that do it, but I really love the way EA shows it).
3. Can I by any chance make a second buff frame and position it differently from the main one?

P.S. I'm usually able to do what I need in lua files if it's easy, since I'm a programmer, but don't know lua deeply, so if you could guide me a bit that would be wonderful
All three of those things aren't programmed into EventAlert. But, they should be fairly easy to bring into EA. The only issue, is that EA wasn't really designed to do that, and I'm worried that adding those things would add some serious overhead. Because of that, they most likely won't make it into EA.

But, to get you started, check out line 130 of EventAlert.lua. That line is basically saying "if the spell that just popped up into the combat log is a spell effecting this player and not someone else, then do everything after this...". And to see what all the "arg" variables are, check this out:
http://www.wowwiki.com/COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED

Hopefully that will at least get you close to the info you need to get started making things work the way you want them.

Thanks for more detail. I'm still working on duplicating this, but this moves me a bit closer. Thank you.

It has something to do with when Fireball! procs too. But I can't make it do it... so I really am not sure WHY it's giving that error... which makes it tough to fix. If you happen to see when it happens, let me know. This bug is driving me nuts.
I can confirm this. I went a few times through Botanika yesterday, solo. The FoF thingy seems to be very likely to occur during boss fights when you fire off your Fireball! procc together with a Frostbolt cast when you have only one FoF charge left; however it might occur in almost any situation, but I found this triggered it almost every time. And it hurts a lot.

I keep thinking the actual problem might be something like that:

FoF proccs (2 charges left)
cast Frostbolt (1 charge left)
Fireball! proccs
cast Frostbolt (0 charges left)
and fire off Fireball! simultaneously (-1 charges left)

So basically I think combining the last charge of FoF with another cast, especially a Fireball! procc (but not only), somestimes causes the addon to substract 3 charges where there are only 2, and uses the result for further calculation.

At this point the FoF display hangs up. There are charges != 0 (so the icon is shown) but no time to display (so it uses the last time remaining the addon knew and freezes). Now if you get another FoF procc there will be 2 charges added, so we are at +1 charges again. As long as you have > 0 charges, the display will be alright, but as soon as you fired them off it will be buged again.

Let's presume we get the error again and there are -2 charges left in the end, another procc will get us 0 charges. I think I have seen this too yesterday when I got a procc along with the FoF timer in EA but no icon was shown. Might be interesting to see if you can get it to -3 charges.

If this really is the nature of the bug, check the charge counter every time the FoF buff is completely removed from the player (for what reason ever). If it is < 0, set it to 0. Or generally set it to 0. Shouldn't hurt while it is inactive; however there might be new trouble arising if you get another procc while the first charges haven't been used up (especially if the error occurs in the meantime)...
I guess this is why you originally opted to add and substract charges, isn't it. This mechanic is way too messy (on Blizzard's side).

Fingers of Frost + Fireball!

So I'm having trouble replicating the error with Fingers of Frost and Fireball. I've not been able to replicate the problem on two different mages on two different accounts and machines.

Is this happening to everyone? Is this something that happens every single time or just here and there? Are any of you using any other addons that work to alert you when buffs pop?

Any extra info would help. Thanks all.

Re: Event stays on screen even after its duration is done

This is happening with Mage proc called Fingers of Frost, the other proc I have is Fireball! and it seem to be working just fine.

Also I would like to request it to be skinnable with Buttonfacade if at all possible

Thanks for a great addon!

Edit:
Got this error message

Interface\AddOns\EventAlert\EventAlert.lua:361: EAFrame_74396:SetPoint(): EAFrame_57761 is dependent on this
Count: 1

Call Stack:
[C]: ?
[C]: in function `SetPoint'
Interface\AddOns\EventAlert\EventAlert.lua:361: in function `EventAlert_PositionFrames'
Interface\AddOns\EventAlert\EventAlert.lua:142: in function `EventAlert_OnEvent'
[string "*:OnEvent"]:1: in function <[string "*:OnEvent"]:1>
Thank you for the error report. That helps a lot. I will work on fixing this problem.

ButtonFacade support is coming... but slow. It will eventually be there.
