Scrolling Combat Text  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 7.1
by: Grayhoof [More]

Please post all errors and suggestions on http://grayhoof.wowinterface.com/ using the provided forms.

Be sure to check out my simple but enhanced combat log EavesDrop

Also check out SCTD if you want SCT to show your damage.

What is it? - A fairly simple but very configurable mod that adds damage, heals, and events (dodge, parry, windfury, etc...) as scrolling text above you character model, much like what already happens above your target. This makes it so you do not have to watch (or use) your regular combat chat window and gives it a "Final Fantasy" feel.

What can it do?

- Damage messages
- Heals (incoming and outgoing) and Overhealing (with healer ID's), with filtering for small heals.
- Spell Damage/Resists and Damage Type
- All "Miss" events (dodge, block, immune, etc...)
- Custom Colors for all text events
- Config file to setup custom events (self and target), capture data, and display it.
- Debuff/Buff gain and loss Messages
- Low Health and Mana Warnings with values, and optional sounds
- Rage/Mana/Energy Gains
- Enter and Leave Combat Messages
- Rogue Combo Points, 5 CP Alert Message
- Class Skill alerts (Execute, Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...)
- Honor, Reputation, Skill Gain
- Eight Animation Types (Verticle, Rainbow, Horizontal, Angled Down, Angled Up, Sprinkler, Curved HUD, Angled HUD)
- Four Fonts
- Two seperate Animation frames, each with their own settings. Assign any Event to either.
- Ability to flag any event as critical or as a text messages
- Sliders for text size, opacity, animation speed, movement speed, and on screen placement (with custom editbox)
- Lightmode, for when you care most about performance (at the loss of a few features).
- Now Based in Ace3.
- Settings saved per character by default, but supports all Ace3 Profiles
- Load/Delete settings from another character. Load built in Profiles.
- Localized to work in almost all WoW clients.
How do I use it? - First unzip it into your interface\addons directory. For more info on installing, please read install.txt. Now just run WoW and once logged in, type /sctmenu to get the options screen.

SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA is used to setup custom message events. Please open up the file (notepad, etc...) and read the opening section to understand how to use it all.
PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FILE IN SCT. IF YOU DON'T READ IT AND USE IT, THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A TON OF WHAT SCT HAS TO OFFER IN CUSTOMIZATION

/sctdisplay is used to create your own custom messages.
Useage:
/sctdisplay 'message' (for white text)
/sctdisplay 'message' red(0-10) green(0-10) blue(0-10)
Example: /sctdisplay 'Heal Me' 10 0 0 - This will display 'Heal Me' in bright red
Some Colors: red = 10 0 0, green = 0 10 0, blue = 0 0 10, yellow = 10 10 0, magenta = 10 0 10, cyan = 0 10 10

FAQ
How do I get My Crits or My Hits to show? I would suggest you get SCTD: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=4913

I don't understand what the 2 frames are for! - Each frame lets you set different features. So you can set frame one using Sprinker animation and Default font, while frame 2 can be using Veritcle animation and Adventure font. You can then assign each event to a specfic frame using the radio buttons next to the events.

There's too many options. Help someone new see how things work! - Try out some of the new built in profiles. While on the options screen, click the "Profiles" button. At the top of the window will be a listing of some default profiles to try out. Maybe you'll fine one you like or it will spark some ideas for you to try.

How do I change the fonts? - You can now select from many fonts on the options page. You can also change the font of message and apply the font to the in game damage font used for your damage (requires relog)

I don't like friendly nameplates on. How do I make my heals appear over who I heal? - Friendly nameplates have to be on in order to show your heals. SCT will turn them on if you turn on the option, but you must manually turn them off if you don't like it (see Target keybindings).

I don't like the new spell icons, how do I turn them off? - There is an option to turn them off under the spell tab.

/sct menu

A little annoying that "/sct" doesn't default to showing the menu, but I suspect that's an Ace2 quirk.

Display buffs that are removed via Priest dispell and warlock devour magic

Hi, first off great addon =).

now, How do i get the buffs that I remove via priest dispel and warlock devour magic to be displayed via SCT? I have seen many purge versions for shamans, so I am fairly certain that it is possible. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Devour Magic Custom Event

ok, so I have figured the event out that is linked to Devour magic, "CHAT_MSG_SPELL_BREAK_AURA"

I commented it in like the readme says to, but I am having trouble making the custom event work in game. This is the event that I wrote...

[19] = {name="Devour Magic!", type="debufftarget", search="Nheedrom's Devour Magic", r=0/256, g=0/256, b=256/256, iscrit=1

I think that the type is wrong but I am not sure, as I have tried all 3 events to no avail. Also I don't know how to make it tell me which debuffs I am devouring even though I know its possible as it is in the combat log. I have poured over you tutorials and maybe I am just blind but I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

Any help is MUCH appreciated.....

Hello.

I'm trying to set it up a certain way so that when Sword Specialization procs, it'll say "Sword Spec!" instead of "Extra Attack!".

Now I've got the "Sword Spec!" showed again (it did it on it's own after 2.1, due to the sword specialization changes, but those got partly changed again), but the "Extra Attack!" is still showing and I've got no idea how to get rid of it.

I am having a small issue with SCT, I am a shadow priest and I was trying to get rid of the annoying VE spam. The best way I can see to do this is by setting the healing filter just above what my VE can do. When I set the filter to said level <100 atm> I no longer see any of the heals I cast on myself even when I heal myself for 2K+.

* I have the latest version

Any suggestions or tips would be much apreshated.

EDIT: lol I am such a goof, that was what was happening thanks for the quick response and great addon.

reppgoa, Devout Magic isn't a debuff so that won't work. You have to create custom event to search for the actual text that happens when your pet dispels the buff. If you give me that text I can help you formulate the event.

Shanley, I'm not sure what you are asking for.

Necrodeath, its a blizzard event. You'd need to turn off active skill events and then create your own new custom event for it. The 2.12 change made it impossible to track it the old way.

Zargon440, its because you have overheal on. You aren't healing yourself at all with those big heals, so they filter removes them. Turnoff overhealing and they will show.

With the latest version of SCT (running on a German client), buffs don't show up in the fashion of "You gain 'xy'" or "'xy' fades from you" anymore. Since I'm pretty used to that sort of display, I'd like to know if there's a way either by creating a custom event or some other magic to get the events popping up again that way. I've played with the sct_event_config.lua file for quite some time, but to no avail. I simply can't get SCT to read out which buffs I receive/fade from me and to display them as a message like mentioned above.

Thanks.

I installed SCT today. Downloaded from Curse gaming. Works fine, but my default buffs in the top right corner don't show up. Debuffs don't show up either. Can I fix this?

Thanks.

I'm a balance/resto druid.

I setup SCT using a modified Split Profile. One thing I'm noticing though, is that when my Nature's Grace buff wears off, I am seeing a message in both the SCT Message and SCT frames. I'm only expecting the - message in SCT Message.

I even turned off all Events pointing to the SCT frame and it still showed up. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thanks!

Can you incrase the values for the text positions, please.
At the moment the values are limeted by x = {-600..600} and y = {-400..400}.
On a wide screen with 1680 x 1050 size you can not move the text on any position.

Shanley, that functionality was removed a few versions ago. You would need to create a custom event looking for "You gain " and output that to the msg frame.

duck215, SCT does not mess with buff display in any way. Must be something else you installed.

gweniver, maybe a custom event you have setup? Only way I can see that happening the way you have described it.

TimTaler, you can input any number into the edit box next to those sliders. Then just hit the enter key and the new value will take effect.

Probably a stupid question but:

Is there any way to change the sound or file that makes the sound of "low health" or "low mana"?
