HappyTotem  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.1.3c
by: yllamana [More]

Warning: HappyTotem currently only works in the English-speaking and hopefully German localisations of WoW. It won't work in the others.

HappyTotem is a little totem mod that gives you a bar with four slots: Earth, Fire, Water, Air. As you place totems they appear on the bar, disappearing from it again when they're destroyed. It also shows their remaining duration in the style of WoW's target buffs and debuffs, with a shadow extending clockwise around the totem's icon as its duration is used up. The bar can be dragged around by its title, which stays invisible until you hold the mouse over it for a second or so.

Version 1.1 adds a range display. If you don't have the totem's buff then its icon will turn red on the bar. This lets you see when you're in or out of range, as well as showing you when Grounding Totem is ready to deflect a spell. Note that this doesn't work on Tremor Totem, Flametongue Totem, Poison/Disease Cleansing Totem, Mana Tide Totem or Windfury totem, as they have no buffs. The range display can be toggled on and off by the new menu from right clicking the HappyTotem title bar.

Version 1.1.1 fixes an issue where Wrath of Air Totem and Totem of Wrath weren't range checking correctly, along with a couple of cosmetic issues.

Version 1.1.2 adds support for the German localisation.

Version 1.1.3 fixes the German localisation (oops).

I've quit WoW, so unless I un-quit I won't be updating anymore.

Discussion for HappyTotem can be found here: http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/showthread.php?p=67587#post67587

Yes, HappyTotem is completely dead in WoW 2.4.x. Its not just an outdated TOC file; it throws up errors (recorded with BugSack/BugGrabber from Wowace.com) and doesn't load:

HappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:340: attempt to index local 'cooldownFrame' (a nil value)\nHappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:401: in function `TotemButton_Update'\nHappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:281: in function `TotemButton_OnLoad'\n<string>:\"*:OnLoad\":1: in function <[string \"*:OnLoad\"]:1>

HappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:339: attempt to index local 'icon' (a nil value)\nHappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:401: in function `TotemButton_Update'\nInterface\\FrameXML\\TotemFrame.lua:40: in function `TotemFrame_Update':\nInterface\\FrameXML\\TotemFrame.lua:62: in function `TotemFrame_OnEvent':\n<string>:\"*:OnEvent\":1: in function <[string \"*:OnEvent\"]:1>

HappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:135: attempt to index local 'flash' (a nil value)\nHappyTotem-1.1.3\\HappyTotem.lua:100: in function `HappyTotem_OnEvent'\n<string>:\"*:OnEvent\":1: in function <[string \"*:OnEvent\"]:1>

Hope the author--or someone else--picks this up & updates it for WoW 2.4.x. It was a great totem mod & no other mod currently duplicates its functionality. Several totem mods are similar, but none exactly the same.

Nice Addon

Hi there,

do you have any plans to update it to the new patch (i.e. being able to take back one totem at a time by clicking your interface)?

Would be great,
Blackspirit

See what happens when you create a great addon. It seems that in it's simplicity lies the implications for it's possibilities. So many addons are so intricate and it's that fact that makes them so useful to so many classes. I think it's cool that this is something that really could be used by anyone and be helpful.

I can't wait to see what you have next.

Would it be possible to add the ability to scale the totem window?

My comment referred to yours about weapon buffs...that a shaman will usually be casting on their own weapons and not using totem buffs. So in essence, there is no need for the addon to register if shaman are out of range of a totem weapon buff.

That got my train of thought thinking this would be useful for NON-shaman...so they would also know if they were within range of a buff or not. IN THEORY, if the addon checked weapon buffs and noted when the weapon buff was no longer on their weapon it would mean one of two things...the totem was down or the person was out of range. You could even change the addon to talk within the addon channel with Shaman being the primary data repository...so the addon would know when the totem was dropped within a party and register that to non-shaman.

Thus, the addon could feasibly be used by anybody...shaman to know when they were needing to drop a totem but also everybody in general to know when they were out of range of a totem. The need for communication exists because for non-shaman the addon would need to know if the totem was actually gone or just out-of-range.

No. Sadly, you can't do this since they nerfed it in... 2.0? Or thereabouts. I do want to do some things with the buttons to let you use them to drop totems, but haven't got that far yet.

Well, that same logic can be used for any other buff totem...

So back to my original statement I guess...would be nice to have it register if your weapon buff was out of range...because if a shammy is dropping a weapon buff totem and NOT using it, they won't care if they're out of range anyways...so who cares if it's not registering THEM
I'm sorry, I really don't get what you mean. It's true that the buffs won't always be on the rest of your party when they're on you (and vice versa!) but when you play with it, it acts as a very strong guide to range. HappyTotem is only for shamans to use - though when I jokingly suggested to my warrior that I should make him a version of it so he could see the information it was giving me (ie. that he keeps charging out of range of the totems and never pulling back asfdgaskldf) he actually thought it was a good idea.

I think what I'd like to do is show how many nearby partymates who would use the buff (ie. rogues, warriors, non-healer paladins) have it on them, since that's really what you care about, but I don't see a way to check if players other than yourself have a weapon buff up. Failing that, I may try to make the icon glimmer when a partymate gets a WF proc, which sounds kinda fun to me and should serve as a reminder ("hey, why hasn't WF gone off in a while?").
Well, that same logic can be used for any other buff totem...the point being OTHER people are not using the mod, only shammies...unless this mod is going to be used by people other than the shammy (which is possible to see if you're out of range) but then, by that same logic, those people using it who are not shammies and out of range would still need the addon to record their weapon buffs going off and not being reapplied (indicating they're out of range).

Also, sorry to those who downloaded 1.1 and found their Totem of Wrath/Wrath of Air were always displaying as out of range. When I was writing the code for it I wasn't able to see what the buffs were called (my shaman is only level 45, and Resto anyway, not Elemental) and checking those slipped my mind. It turns out that the totems added in BC have buff names inconsistent with the naming pattern from pre-BC, so my guesses were wrong. It should work in 1.1.1.

Thank-you for your kind words. I can probably make it do that for some of the totems, but I don't think there's a practical way to do it for some (like WF totem, for example).

I can still imagine that being useful, even if it doesn't apply to a couple of totems, so I'll play with it and see what I can do.
