SilentFish

Version: 3
by: Foxlit [More]

SilentFish alters the sound effects volume while you fish to minimize the chance you'll hear someone else's bobber splash. This makes it easier to fish in more densely populated areas (such as the Dalaran Fountain).

The addon gathers data as you fish, eventually enabling you to change the default timing to match observed results. Access the SilentFish configuration panel through the Addons tab of the Interface Options window to see the current sound timing and observed statistics.

Version 2: Fixed an issue where the sound was not muted at the start of the cast in some circumstances.
Version 3: Fixed an issue where GetSpellInfo could be called with invalid arguments.

It's definitely loaded. Incidentally, the problem randomly corrected itself today. I am completely baffled

And you're certain that the addon is actually running?

Mm, works as intended, though could probably use a checkbox to toggle to the behavior you describe. The idea is that it doesn't alter settings to those of unproven quality unless you ask it to.

Dl'd the new version, gonna try it tomorrow together with the suggested fix. One question though: it seems to me that the mod doesn't update with the data automatically, even when it's set to use them, is this intentional? I mean that every time I click the 'empirical data' button, the ranges slightly shift. Shouldn't it adjust them on the fly?

Version 3

GetSpellInfo errors should hopefully be resolved by the most recent update.

To fix the late splash unmute, you may have to edit the reaction time compensation. Try /run SilentFishData.reaction = 1, where 1 is the number of seconds between the splash and the server acknowledging that you pulled the line (the default is 0.75); this may be affected by latency and overall server performance.

[If you're running SilentFish and have got a decent number of casts, I'd be interested in seeing what the computed statistics look like.]

Works nice, but throws weird errors if I mouseover a target the moment it dies. Also some of my catches happen just before the predicted range so they are silent and I only hear the pull-in or the loot sound - and yes, I've set it to 'use empirical data'.

From BugSack:
[2009/01/23 12:22:37-27-x3]: SilentFish\SilentFish.lua:88: GetSpellInfo(): Invalid spell slot
SilentFish\SilentFish.lua:88: in function `?'
SilentFish\SilentFish.lua:85: in function <Interface\AddOns\SilentFish\SilentFish.lua:84>

Re: FB and Version 2

sounds good ^_^ And yeah, I was going to turn off FB's sound enchancing when trying this. I'm going to give it a go, and I'll report back to you in the next few days for you to read when you get back .

FB and Version 2

It should work with FB -- in the sense that it doesn't go out of its way to not work with FB. SilentFish doesn't make an effort to maintain the volume after changing it, so if another addon persistently changes your sound effects volume, it might interfere. Short version: it should work.

The statistics are used to estimate the position and size of the three time intervals you can catch fish in. The function tracked is the difference in time between you completing a cast and one of the three arbitrary points of reference; mean (average) and standard deviation (used to give an estimation of the interval duration) are computed based on those values. After you catch a large number of fish (100 or so), it may make sense to go into the SilentFish options and click the "Use Empirical Data" -- this will alter the mute timing to match your observed results. If you find yourself unhappy after having done that, you can restore the default values using the Defaults button in the interface options interface.

The second release addresses an error where SilentFish would not mute sound for the first part of the fishing cast if the sound has been muted when your last cast ended.

(On an unrelated side note, support in the next two weeks will be limited -- I'm on vacation. Feel free to leave feedback and bug reports; I'll go through those when I return.)

Heya ^_^ Gotta ask a few questions

Is this compatible with Fishing Buddy? I love FB, but the enhanced sound isn't really 'enchanced' enough for me, and it'd be great to not hear other bobbers so easy ^^. (Yours) And I like that the sound (?) changes as it gets used to your fishing style.

Also the statistics it finds out...what does it find out exactly? Just curious lol.

Thanks ^_^ If this is FB compatible, you'll have me on the wagon ^_^
