InspectEquip attaches a panel to the inspect window that shows a list of the character's equipment sorted by source (i.e. Raid: Dragon Soul, Vendor, Crafted...). This gives you a quick overview of a character's equipment.
InspectEquip also adds detailed item source information (including boss names, item prices for vendor items etc) to all item tooltips.
Currently supported items include (no green items):

I love the recent change with the display of the item levels. This is still one of the "must have"s for me. Thanks for keeping it updated and maintained! 'tis much appreciated.

I like this addon alot, but I would like it even more if you could add an option to disable the info box at the inspect window for all players, not just your own.
Hope you could add this when you got time and thanks for a great addon |

Thanks.

The only option I would like to change is the info box that opens beside the character when it opens. This also is the same box that opens when I open my character window.
Can I disable this option?

Actually, the main reason I decided not to use LibPeriodicTable is performance: LibPeriodicTable organizes its data in sets (similar to AtlasLoot, i.e. it has a list of items for every boss etc.). This is nice if you need a list of all alchemy reagents, all items dropped by boss x etc. InspectEquip however needs the reverse - a list of "sets" that contain the item. LibPeriodicTable does have an API for that (ItemSearch), but according to their documentation it's slow as hell. They say it takes ~0.12sec (per item). Imagine inspecting someone with 17 items - that would add a ~2sec delay. The results could be cached, and that probably works for single items/tooltips (I think Mendeleev does it like that), but still, if you inspect someone with non-cached items, it would take far too long. The only other option I see would be to generate a reverse lookup table on startup. That would still use about the same memory as it does now + lots of CPU time at each login (to iterate through the LibPT db + create a reverse lookup table). Personally I think the performance win when inspecting is worth the ~600 KB more RAM usage (and slightly longer logon time if you use a LibPT addon). Also, I have not followed the development of LibPeriodicTable closely so I don't know how up-to-date their database is, but I just checked their latest Alpha release and it does not yet contain any of the new Trial of the Champion/Crusader items. They'll probably release an updated version soon, but I want to have an InspectEquip release ready on patch day that includes all the items known from the PTR (they are already in the latest InspectEquip Alpha on WowAce). But as I said, the main problem is that I don't see any way to use LibPeriodicTable without major performance loss. I might be missing something, but currently it unfortunately does not look like a viable alternative to me. It's a very nice library, no doubt, but I don't think it's the right choice for this addon. |

This works great; bug-free for most of its life & provides useful information.
But why not instead use the frequently-updated LibPeriodicTable-3.1 libraries (LibPeriodicTable-3.1-InstanceLoot & so on) for your drop data as Mendeleev & many other mods do? That would offer two advantages: --Users won't have yet another memory-consuming database of items loading with this mod. Item databases (whether a user's own or one that comes with a mod) affect game logon times more than anything else. In general, the larger the size of said databases, the longer the mod load time. --You don't need to spend tons of times updating your own database and can spend more times on other things. |
