devnull

Version: 2.4.2a
by: Zalkalin [More]

/dev/null makes your life in WoW more pleasant by ignoring various chat annoyances.

Thanks to Jncl for all his work on this addon.

When you enter a capital city:

It will ignore people who /yell.
It will ignore spammy NPCs (ie. Ironforge bread vendor, Topper McNab in Stormwind etc).
It will ignore duel spam (A has defeated B in a duel).
It will ignore emotes (todo: Don't ignore emotes directed at yourself).
It will ignore drunk spam (X looks tipsy).
It will ignore tradeskill spam.

When you enter an instance or battleground:
It will mute the general channel.

All features can be toggled with the slash command /devnull.

  • Many changes and extensions by Jncl and Tekkub since I abandoned it.
  • Compatible with WoW 2.0.
  • Added TBC cities, Silvermoon and The Exodar.
  • Removed unneeded LFG handling.
  • Updated libraries.

v2.0 (August 3rd, 2006)

suggestions

Many thanks for this addon, I like it very much and use it with all of my chars.

There is some things that would make this addon perfect:

I hate this "chuck norris" spam and I would like to mute all messages with "chuck norris" in it. I think it should be possible to set different text filters.

And some of the features of STFU would be very handy, such as no whispers from level 1 characters, no emote spam, no repeated messages.

If you are no going to add this I will try to do it for myself with a new addon, but I would like to see it in yours.

Regards
Thomas

What you describe isn't possible with the changes I made between those versions. It's something else. Perhaps something with the libraries /dev/null uses. Get /dev/null with the latest libraries here:

if "devnull" 2.4.2a is installed, with "Gatherer" the data are not
correctly stored. Something of "devnull" disturbs "Gatherer" the
data to store.

With devnull 2.4.1 no problem.

With libs from http://files.wowace.com/FuBar_GuildFu/FuBar_GuildFu-r29575.zip works "devnull" with "Gatherer" korrektly.

Please remove the "addon loaded" message, Ace addons should never ever do this. If the user wants "addon loaded" spam they can use "/ace loadmsg"

Oh, well if NPCs use their own channel and don't abuse it then nevermind!

CHAT_MSG_YELL is only fired when players yell, as far as I know, and that's the only thing filtered by this mod.

NPC's use CHAT_MSG_MONSTER_YELL.

There are some NPCs that yell in town that you might wont to whitelist in your filter. Examples would be Thrall in orgy, whoever yells for the ony head in Stormwind, Mouth of Kel'thuzad in all the cities during scourage invasions...

One simple filter would be to check for a space in the sending person's name, since players can't have spaces. You'd still have to whitelist a few names tho, like Thrall.

Error message

Wonderful idea for a mod. However, it doesn't seem to be working for me.

When I log in or reload the UI, I get:
STFU.lua: 11: attempt to index global 'BabbleLib' (a nil value)

Every time I enter a zone, I get:
STFU.lua: 26: attempt to index a nil value

Ah I see. I never used worldofwar.net much, so I didn't think of looking there.

I'll figure out what to do tomorrow. Just came off an 18 hour work day (yes, eighteen) and I can't think straight.

Actually "the other STFU" just minimize ALL duplicate messages, it's quite nice on the trade and LFG channels

I say you name this one OMGSTFU!

I like the name, but there's already an add-on with that name, though it does something different. It attempts to minimize raid leader spam by eliminating duplicate message. It's on one of the other add-on sites.
