Shadowed Unit Frames  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v4.4.8
by: Shadowed, Nevcairiel

SUF focuses on a simple configuration while maintaining the flexibility that most users will care about, preventing unnecessary bloating of the addon that sacrifices performance. While you aren't going to be able to set the health bar to be exactly 3.14 pixels outside of the unit frames, you can change options you actually care about such as bar height, ordering, frame height and so on. To speed up configuration, you can configure multiple units at the same time through the global configuration. For example, if you want to set the height of the Player, Target, Focus and Party frames to 50 then the height of Target's Target, Target's Target of Target, Focus Target to 30 you can easily do this by changing two options instead of having to do it seven times.

However, should you need a little bit of extra configuration do not despair! An advanced option is included that will unlock additional configuration giving finer control over the configuration.

Slash commands: /shadoweduf (/suf)

Donations are not required, but are appreciated!

Anchoring
Are you driven crazy by your party frames not aligning up exactly with your player frames, even if it's only half a pixel off? The anchoring system will let you solve all alignment issues, by allowing you to anchor a frame to another and set a simple offset from the frame it is anchored to, or by manually setting the X/Y position of the frame.

Using the screen shot as an example, if you drag the player frame the other frames will move with the player frame preserving the alignment and spacing. Each frame can still be manually positioned wherever you want, but this gives you a way of easily anchoring and moving frames around without having to use a ruler.

Zone configuration (Disabling options/units by zone type)
Units and modules can be enabled or disabled based on the type of zone you are in. For example, if you want to see party targets and party pets while you are in an arena but nowhere else then you can use the visibility options to enable it only while inside an arena. Modules can also be disabled by zone type, if you want to see party auras while in a raid instance but nowhere else you can disable the module in raid instances only.

Profiles do not have to be swapped and it is all automatic.

Units
Supports unit frames are as follows:

Player: Player, Pet, Pet Target
General: Target, Target of Target, Target of Target of Target, Focus, Focus Target
Party: Party, Party Pets, Party Targets, Party ToT
Raid: Raid, Raid Pet, Main Tank, Main Tank Target, Main Assist, Main Assist Target, Boss, Boss Target, Boss ToT, Main Assist ToT, Main Tank ToT
Arena: Arena, Arena Target, Arena Pets, Arena ToT
Battleground: Battleground, Battleground Target, Battleground Target

Features

  • Tags: Includes a simple tagging system that can be customized in virtually any way using Lua, even if something isn't included by default odds are you can make the tags
  • Incoming Heals: Supports the Blizzard Events for incoming heal data, no external libraries needed
  • Auras: Can be set to only show auras you casted, or can cast on others. Can enlarge auras that you casted, and hide the cooldown ring on the timers of auras you didn't cast as well to make it more obvious which ones you casted and which ones you didn't
  • Aura Timers: You will need a mod such as OmniCC to show timers on buffs and debuffs
  • Aura Indicators: Display colored squares or icons for certain auras on any unit
  • Fader: Fades frames when out of combat and inactive (100% mana/no target)
  • Class Power (Eclipse, Holy Power, etc): Supports all of the class power features from Eclipse to Burning Embers.
  • Highlighting: Border highlighting of frames based on mousing over them, curable debuffs, aggro or you are targeting/focusing them
  • Range Checking: Fades frames out that are out of range of you
  • Exportable Layouts: If you have a layout, or your friend has a layout you want to try out you can export/import SUF layouts by going to /suf -> Layout Manager
  • Profiles: You can change from any profile to another one without reloading your UI, should you want to use a completely different layout based on zone you can easily switch profiles without hassle

Pretty much all the general unit frame settings are in, health bars, cast bars, power bars, portraits, indicators and so on.

Modules
Basic module support is included, should you be interested in building a module see the documentation on github for more information.

There isn't, and it's not something I plan on adding.

Been using SUF for quite some time. Love the add on, it's one of the central components in my UI; I build most of the UI around it.

But I've been experiencing a problem with SUF for quite a while now. On the eve of 5.0.4, I finally was able to nail down exactly which add on I'm using that's causing the issue and, unfortunately, it's SUF.

The issue is that it's removing the "progress bar" or "alternate bar" or whatever it's official name is for quests and raid bosses. Best example to point to: Elemental Bonds (the quest for the epic cap at level 85 with Aggra). The bar showing the progress is disabled for some reason. I haven't been able to find any options in SUF that relate to this (perhaps because I don't know exactly what it's called?).

I love SUF and I certainly don't want to stop using it. I wanted to let you know, Shadowed, in case it's something in the code that changed that wasn't updated properly during a download or a line that wasn't removed when I updated or some other glitch that's an easy fix on my end. Or, if it's not something on my end, so that you'd know of it and can look into it to maybe find what's causing it.

Then again, this entire issue may be irrelevant as of tomorrow and updating the add on. lol

Love the add on and I'm really hoping I can keep using it.

Blizzard does a very bad job of these, but there are multiple alternate power bars.

One is called PlayerPowerBarAlt which is what things like Rhyolith in Firelands uses. Another is AlternatePowerBar, which is what Mistweaver Monks use to see mana, or Druids use to see their mana in forms.

Another is AlternatePowerBar, which is anchored below the player frame and is also sometimes shown for misc quests, such as one of the MoP Panda ones. For that, you have to enable alt power bar in the unit menu.

I'm not familiar with the Elemental Bonds quest. But most likely, you are talking about the latter?

(For exposure I have also posted this to WoWAce forums as Pandoraschest)

So, I'm getting a weird error and I'm not sure how to fix it. I have the most up to date version with the 5.0.4 patch.
Not sure if it's related, but the 3D portrait of players and NPC's are being stretched outside the boundaries of the unit frame: http://i.imgur.com/B7iiK.jpg

The last one you mentioned turns out to be the one I needed.

I don't get why Blizz goes out of their way to break add ons in such complex ways. I say they go out of their way to do it because honestly, that many add ons being broken in that many different ways has to be deliberate effort. =/

SUF is working nearly perfectly for me in 5.0.1, but there's one little thing...the "left text" and "right text" tags on the health and power bars are getting some strange text artifacts, almost like a vertical mirroring. Usually when I log in, it'll look fine on my player frame. Then if I click on a player or NPC, bringing up a target frame, the text on both my player frame and on the target frame gets this "mirroring" effect, which makes it much less readable.

It doesn't seem to be another addon corrupting it. I tested this with no addons active except SUF, and the same thing was happening.

Next version will force enable it for all players which should generally solve the issue.

Can you provide a screenshot? Unfortunately, it sounds more like a Blizzard bug than SUF, but a screenshot would help me tell you for sure.

The screenshot is a little small, are you non-US? Looks like it, if you are, try using another font and see if that fixes it.

Hopefully this will be better, made a higher resolution screen shot:

I'm in the US...all the text is numbers and English. On the player frame, it's total health (top) and total mana (bottom) and on the target frame it's level and name and total health. They look like foreign characters due to the effect I was talking about. I've tried switching fonts, using some of the standard ones (I usually use a custom font through SharedMedia, but when I tried it with all other addons disabled, I wasn't using the custom font).

Edit: It seems to be making it smaller than what I uploaded to Photobucket, even when you click the bar to make it larger. Either that or Photobucket is making it smaller. Hmm.

Nobody else has reported it yet, so I'm guessing it's a Blizzard issue. You could try creating a new profile and see if it still persists, but it's very unlikely to be a SUF bug.
