Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- This concludes the conversion of all DataStore modules to make them compatible with all versions.

- DataStore_Containers: Fixed COMMON_NUM_BAG_SLOTS to be NUM_BAG_SLOTS + 1 for retail, and NUM_BAG_SLOTS for non-retail, instead of the opposite.

- Fixed an issue where sorting the bags while the merchant frame is opened would trigger a slow down (Thanks Belazor !)

WoWI has always been my home. I tried Curse once, but they made a really bad first impression with how glitchy their site was at the time. Back then, I had trouble trying to get my account set up, on top of the fact if I wanted to download any addons hosted there, I had to hack their site since the download link relied on flash for some sort of verification and it never loaded properly.

At any rate, Altoholic is one of only a couple addons I run outside of my own code. It's fairly decent besides a few annoyances that I've fixed like the recipe, pet, and glyph owners tooltip ignoring the TooltipCrossFaction setting.

Digging around in the DataStore folders I found the Export folder and eventually the ExportToXML.lua file. Surprisingly it worked with one very minor bug fix which is awesome since it doesn't look like it's seen recent love (may be wrong on that). The bug I found is that during the creation of DataStore_Inventory.xml it came across something that caused a nil value in "value" which was unexpected by the line: WriteXMLLine(file, level, format("<%s %s>%s</%s>", tag, attributes, value, tag)) As a quick cheat I changed that one line to this: if value then WriteXMLLine(file, level, format("<%s %s>%s</%s>", tag, attributes, value, tag)) else WriteXMLLine(file, level, format("<%s %s>%s</%s>", tag, attributes, "Not Found", tag)) end and it successfully parsed 2 characters worth of data. When I looked for what items were causing the unexpected nil in the variable value I found 3 "Not Found" listings, which were for the following item ids; 6557, 4561, 2632, which surprisingly are all mundane items that seem to have been in-game for quite a while (I was expecting it to be choking on some exotic 5.2 only items). Anyway, thanks for an awesome Addon, an awesome Library, and an awesome tool for that library. BTW, what I'm trying to write is a "hey dummy, you've got a Lerah's Ribsmasher worth 7,000g sitting in Tab 4 of your Guild Bank and you've got that in your 'I sell these items' list and you've already got 2 on the Auction House on this faction, but you've got none listed on the other faction Auction House, move that thing over and get it listed" type helper app... guess that example's a bit verbose but I think you get the idea.

Along those same lines, the new zones only allow for one weekly mob loot of the Key to the Palace of Lei Shen, as well as one weekly loot of Trove of the Thunder King. Indeed, I haven't updated the export script in a while.

Simpler fix:
WriteXMLLine(file, level, format("<%s %s>%s</%s>", tag, attributes, value or "Not Found", tag))

I changed it on my side, it'll be part of the next release.

I guess I could easily do something similar to what I've done with the dailies, in the grids tab (would love feedback on that btw, did you guys like it ?).
Problem is I don't play these days, and I raid even less.. no promise, but I'll see what I can do. Should be feasible.
