Guild Channel

Version: r12
by: senomar [More]

Description:
Guild Channel is an addon for guilds that use a custom chat channel as their guild chat. It provides an interactive tooltip with detailed information about players in that channel.

The idea of this addon is to be able to stay in touch with alts - without the need to invite them into the main guild.

It is designed for guilds that keep alts in seperate guilds!

Features:
- information about who-is-who in the channel (mains/alts)
- information about location, level
- short /gc to post in that channel
- sticky /gc chat channel
- motd
- interactive tooltip (whisper, invite player)
- Data Broker support
- CLINK parsing
- on-/offline notice with main-info
- offline notice colored in red if the player was in your party/raid

The tooltip is seperated into 3 zones of players:
1. main characters
2. alts or gamefriends - with the addon installed
3. alts or gamefriends - without the addon installed

Alts in zone 3 get a "?" at first because their mains are unknown. You can set names for them manually - names get shared with other addon users automatically.

Setup:
- extract Guild_Channel to your Addons folder
- log in as your main
- set your main "as your main" via the minimap-icon
- set the chat channel of your guild
- join the chat channel via "/join channel" if not already joined

r12
- 4.x fixes

r11
- 3.3.5 fixes (/gc working again, etc.)

r10
- fixed minior bug.

r9
- libupdate (fixed a problem with wim)

r8
- fixed blank MOTD on alts.

r7
- MOTD of the main guild is now displayed on alts too.

r6
- TOC update.

r5
- Fixed minior bug after changing the channel.

r4
- Fixed /gc problem on laggy realms after login.(?)

r3
- Fixed a bug for players with classcolors enabled in the chatframe.
- Fixed the minimap-icon toggle.

r2
- Channelname in chatframe is now renamed to [GC] (so the actual channelname does not really matter)
- MinimapIcon-position/status is now stored per character.
- 2 minior bug fixes.

r1
- Initial release.

Maybe a stupid question, but why dont you use the member- or the officer notes of your guild to keep track of the alts that are kept in your guild?
The Addon is designed around "Cross-Guild-communcation" in an own channel.

Maybe for your purposes you could use GuildFu, to display the information stored in the member-notes or use Sign On to customize Login/Logout-Messages for a quick reminder of "who was that?"

Hi,

So, no. It is for guilds who like the main-guild roster for mains only. Just join an alt guild with your alt and everything works how it should.

Why keep your alt in the main guild anyway?

Hi,

the idea of this addon is to be able to stay in touch with alts. If a guildmate decides to create a new char, he just has to type /join <channelname> on the new char - and all players will instantly see who he is.

There are already guild alliance chats out there, for example GEM.

And what do you mean with "instead of another guild chat mod"?
I haven't seen any mods out there like this one.

Why not just rename this addon and change its functionality to "Alliance Chat?" It would be alot more useful there instead of another guild chat mod.
