Fizzwidget TrackMenu  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.2
by: Gazmik [More]

According to my psychometrician colleague, the average adventurer can only hold in his or her head the working knowledge to perform (or use) seventy or so skills (or items) -- on short notice, that is. Those who have time to consult their spellbooks can recall and put to use anything they've ever learned... but that's little comfort if you find yourself in a Devilsaur's belly because you couldn't remember fast enough how to Track Beasts. And the more one tries to keep in this limited working memory ("action slots", the expert calls it), the more easily distracted one is by all the clutter.

Enter Fizzwidget TrackMenu! This handy device attaches to your current navigation equipment and keeps all your tracking skills at your fingertips, without undue confusion... leaving you more room to keep other abilities or items readied.

Features:

  • Mousing over the minimap tracking icon (the part of the Blizzard default UI that shows which tracking skill is currently active) will show a menu of the tracking skills you have. Click a button in the menu to switch to that tracking skill.
  • If you have tracking skills but none are active, the minimap tracking icon will still be shown, with an "X" icon (so that you can still use the menu to pick one).
  • Unlike straight ports of older tracking menu addons, Fizzwidget TrackMenu is built from the ground up for WoW 2.0 -- it works the same regardless of whether you're in combat.

v. 2.2 - 2007/09/25
  • Updated TOC to indicate compatibility with WoW Patch 2.2.
  • Track Humanoids is now always in the menu for Druids (though it won't work if you try to cast it while not in cat form).
v. 2.1.1 - 2007/07/20[list][*]Refined behavior of the tooltip shown when mousing over the minimap tracking icon (with Blizzard-provided tracking spell info and TrackMenu instructions):
  • If the menu is set to show on mouseover, the tooltip won't.
  • If the menu is set to show on click, the tooltip will disappear when moving the mouse into the tracking spells menu or shift-clicking to get TrackMenu's options menu.
  • There's now also an option to keep the tooltip from appearing at all.
[*]The invisible frame we use for opening the menu on click or mouseover is now at the proper depth; the menu should no longer open unexpectedly when clicking/mousing over frames (e.g. bags) that obscure the minimap.[*]We also make sure said frame moves appropriately when the display resolution changes (or you switch between windowed and fullscreen); the menu should remain useable in such cases now.

"Evil of ACE" eh? (chuckle) . A giant number of useful mods use Ace2, including this one. Get over it.

If you run more than one mod using Ace2, only one copy of the libraries gets loaded, saving memory.

As to the mod itself, v2.2 works pretty well. One of the very few track menu/bar addons that (finally) works properly in WoW 2.x (no frame tainting). But a fairly major issue have run into here with it. Its frame strata is set too high.

When the character bags overlap the minimap, the TrackMenu minimap button overrides one or two slots in the top right bag, making it difficult or impossible to manipulate items in those slots.

Strange. I'm not getting any errors and it works fine more or less. So maybe you have got another addon interfering with it.

I've got one problem though - because my minimap is moved to the bottom of the screen, my bags overlap half of it. Although the tracking menu button is not visible when my bag is open, it still is treated as being on top, so one bagslot is completly unusable, because I can't click it. I've got the same problem with the trinity button by the way. Anyone can tell me if I can do anything about it (and what, if so).

I gave up trying to get this mod to work after the latest patch. Everytime it loads I get a error involving Ace2. Something about 35519 and paths and everything. Tried many avenues to investigate an issue to resolve this including contacting the author but to no avail.

So I have abandoned it and really do not see returning to it unless someone knows a solution to this problem.

I'm trying to get this mod to work but not having much luck. (Trying to reduce the clutter of a bajillion buttons on my interface)

The mod is loading, and the /tm commands are responding, but the actual minimap icon isn't doing anything. I turned on the "Display LUA Errors" option, and when I try to toggle either click or mouseover for the icon, it's reporting that RootFrame is a nil value on line 345.

Anyone manage to get this one to work correctly? I tried hitting fizzwidget.com too but it's down, can't find the server. (I did hit it yesterday though to download his latest version.)

Thanks

Can you check MinimapButtonBag? I would love for that to work without the error on this mod.

Mod:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=6764

Error: attempt to concatenate local 'name' (a nil value)
File: Interface\AddOns\MBB\MBB.lua
Line: 903
Count: 2

I changed TrackMenu.lua:
local root = CreateFrame("Frame", nil, Minimap, "SecureStateHeaderTemplate");

To:
local root = CreateFrame("Frame", "TrackMenuButton", Minimap, "SecureStateHeaderTemplate");

But that makes the mod break down, so please have a look for me?

I dont want the tracker button to be hidden, but would like to hover over it without getting an error.

My trackmenu extends upwards (off the screen)... how can I change that? It seems like it should go down but I have found no /command to change it.

If not the ability to set it for "click to activate" rather than mouseover, how about at least the ability to spawn the menu to the left, so we can move the button to the far side of the menu? The problem is that moving the mouse to mouseover a node that you've tracked tends to activate the pop-up menu, obscuring the map.

Have you noticed that the author of this mod never responds to any comments.
Thats why I stoped using all his mods.
I think he writes the mods for himself and really doesn't care what other want or think.

Ah well... my loss I guess but I just prefer authors who are open to suggestions.
