Cartographer is a modular, lightweight, and efficient framework for manipulation of the world map.

  • Battlegrounds : allows viewing of battlegrounds outside of the zone.
  • Coordinates : adds coordinates to the bottom of the world map of the player and the cursor.
  • Foglight : Shows unexplored areas on the map. replacement for MozzFullWorldMap or Unexplorer. Much more efficient, though.
  • Group Colors : turns all your party's and your raid's POIs into circles colored based on class, and shows a number on them based on their raid group.
  • Guild Positions : show all guild members that also have Cartographer.
  • Instance Loot : shows loot tables when you click a boss note
  • Instance Maps : shows maps of instances.
  • Instance Notes : adds boss notes and such to instance maps.
  • Look 'n' Feel : allows you to change the transparency, position, and scale of the world map.
  • Notes : lets you put notes on the map, similar to MapNotes.
  • POI : store notes that city guards point you to.
  • Professions : automatically tracks herbs, minerals, and treasure.
  • Waypoints : allow you to make waypoints and have a big arrow point the way.
  • Zone Info : on hovering over a zone, it will show the levels of the zone, the instances in the zone, their levels, and the number of men the instance is made for (e.g. 5-man, 40-man).

From Djagamoone's description of a popup, it sounded as though Hotspot was installed.
It may be 'dead' but it still functions with Cartographer and is listed in the Rock configuration of Cartographer if it's installed.

If you are talking about the "Rock" minimap button for the latest Cartographer (from http://files.wowace.com/Cartographer/Cartographer.zip ), sinply click it and go into the "Rock" section of the options to uncheck/disable the minimap button.

Check out the 'Hotspot' options or just disable Hotspot from loading on the addons screen.

Thanks for the info. I know right after the patch I had the "rock" icon on my mini-map but I kept having to switch out mods and go to previous versions due to errors I kept receiving. I dont even know if I have the Rock Framework installed anymore.

What does that exactly mean? It looks like ckknight always updates them at the same time so do I need to run that Bat file if i'm updating cartographer? I really havent had any issues with the mod aside from instance maps not showing up. Hopefully the the latest version i installed will solve that issue.

Thanks.
Expanding on my previous post, Cartographer1 is simply the old Ace2 Cartographer "branched" for those people that want to continue to use the Ace2 version. Cartographer (without the "1") is the currently developed Rock library one.

Rock is a new framework library Ckknight is developing to take the place of Ace2. Cartographer and a few other mods (PitBull, CowTip, etc.) are moving to it. Cartographer1 is getting a bit of other-author input, but the original author (Ckknight) is no longer developing it.

So basically, if you use WowAceUpdater (WAU) or download directly from the SVN and want the latest working, currently developed version of the mod, use "Cartographer". If you for some reason prefer to stay with the old, less developed Ace2 version, use "Cartographer1". You don't need both.

Good luck .

Try again, Mr. FUD.

There is nothing harmful in any BAT on the Wowace SVN. The admins of that server & of the Wowace project are long time, reputable WoW mod developers.

BAT files are script files written in text. Can open them with any text editor to see what they will do.

With the Cartographer1 INSTALL.BAT file, what it does is:
1) allow you to remove the currently developed (Ckknight) new Rock version of Cartographer if you have it installed and continue to use the Ace2 version, which has been branched and
2)properly install Cartographer1.
That's all.

Other Wowace SVN BAT files allow you to make parts of an addon LoadOnDemand. For example, run the cartographerlod.bat file included in the Cartographer1 package (many other Wowace mods like BigWigs also have "...lod.bat" files in the package). Run that and various folders of Cartographer1 are moved to the main \AddOns folder. What that does is reduce the amount of memory the mod uses; the only parts of it that load are the parts you actually use.

No readme files, or descriptions on the download page (well, wowace.com sucks for that part)... obscure bat files that takes some digging into and following to see what exactly they are doing. However the reason of "why" is never explained.

From the public's viewpoint, the mod just went and got too complicated. Screw it, I'm moving onto something else where the author communicates. I'm throwing out this two-hundred directory mod that all I found useful was its waypoint system. I can get that with MapNotes or some other much less memory/cpu intensive mod.
Good, I really hope you do move on to something that encourages you to FUD less . Cartographer was designed to be both memory & CPU efficient.

For everyone else, Cartographer (both Ace2 & Rock versions) are pretty straightforward to use. Any questions, there are plenty of people on the Wowace Cartographer forums that will help you.

In your WoW directory, go to WTF\Account\*account name*\Saved Variables. Grab all the files that start with Cartographer (don't worry about the ones that end in BAK) and copy them to the same directory on the new machine.

There ya go!
