Armory Quick Link (Fan Update)

Version: 1.02.2.1
by: trclocke [More]

This was a fan update for Armory Quick Link. Since Dridzt has resumed maintenence on his addon, this version has been discontinued.

1.02.2.1
  • Renamed addon folder to ArmoryQuickLink to avoid duplication issues with Dridzt's addon and correct a naming error.
  • .toc revisions

Also, just for informational purposes, if the folder name and the .toc file name are not an exact match, WoW will not load or even recognize the addon.
Thanks. Corrected in 1.02.2.1.

When the .zip is decompressed, the folder created is "ArmoryQuickLink (Fan Update)", inside of which is the .toc and .lua files. The name of the .toc file is "ArmoryQuickLink.toc" but the contents of the .toc file specify the addon name as "Armory Quick Link (Fan Update)". The .toc file specifies the same SV name as Dridzt's version, "ArmoryQL_Config".

I mention all that because it gave me a moment of pause, and I felt I needed to examine the contents before loading it so that I'd know if I had to disable the previous differently-named version or if the saved variables would carry over.

It might be easier for most potential users if you were to change the folder name to just "ArmoryQuickLink" to match the previous folder name (changing the addon name in the .toc file also). Otherwise, there will be a lot of not-too-tech-savvy users dropping this new version into their AddOns folders - and then the previous version from Dridzt and this new version will both load (and both try to use the same SV file), because the new folder will not overwrite the old folder because the names are different.
That's a very reasonable point, especially since this addon's page lists it as a supplemental addition to AQL. I'll make the change shortly.

Edit: I've opted to leave the (fan update) tag in the .toc's title line so that players can tell at a glance whether they are using Dridzt's version or my update. File and folder names are now the same to avoid the duplication problems you've mentioned.

Thank you very much for the update and improvements. I'd prefer the directory just be ArmoryQuickLink but I can just edit that myself.
