Broker Show/Hide Names

Version: 1.1b
by: keats [More]

LDB-based button to show/hide all hovering character names (players, pets, npcs, etc.) with one click.

You can assign a hotkey to this action through Key Bindings in the Game Menu, under 'Broker Show/Hide Names' (addon key bindings are at the bottom of the list). I'd suggest 'Alt+x', or something similarly close to your UI hider hotkey.

You need to have a LibDataBroker display addon like ChocolateBar for the scarab icon and text to show. The hotkey works whether or not you have a display addon, as long as you take the time to actually set one (see above).

Other Broker addons I love and recommend:
Ara_Broker_Reputations
Ara_Broker_Money
Broker_Spec
Broker_Equipswitch
Broker_wDurability
BrokerMounts
mPlayerInfo

v1.1b
- Updated TOC file for 4.2

v1.1a
- Cleaned up the code a little

v1.1

- Tooltip positioning is now handled by your LDB display addon
- The addon is now categorized as a 'launcher'

This should be a launcher, not a data source.

Thank you for your comment Tekkub, it's an honor to have the very developer who made broker addons possible as my first commenter

And you're right of course, I'm away from my home computer this week, but as soon as I'm back I'll get right on fixing the issue.

I just came across this addon while looking for an up-to-date replacement for one that I've used in the past. I have a request.

Your addon currently toggles names off just fine. When names are toggled back on, however, the previous display settings are not honored and player pets and other units' names get turned back on with them.

Would you consider adding some functionality similar to this addon?

That's what I've been using, but seems to be abandoned. Having the ability to set certain units to "always off" would be really nice. (i.e., I never care about pet names and don't want them cluttering my screen.)

Thanks!

Thank you for your suggestion Xephonia, you can expect an update over the weekend that will respect display options you set through the game settings!

I'm sorry, this is going to take longer than I originally planned, mainly because I decided the only properly elegant way to do this feature is to make a configuration window, which seems to be a rather arduous affair in LUA...

Xephonia, in the meantime if you open up 'Broker_ShowHideNames.lua' and replace 'val' with a zero ('0' without the quotation marks) in the following two lines (line 51 & line 54), the pet names won't show up for you anymore:
Code:
SetCVar("UnitNameEnemyPetName", val)
SetCVar("UnitNameFriendlyPetName", val)

Adding more features from NameToggle would be awesome yes since that one is long "dead". It still works, but throws error messages every time I show or hide something.

OK, I'm gonna be straight with you guys, I can't afford the subscription fee this month, hope July turns out to be better...

Either way, I can promise to tick up the version number once 4.2 comes out, and hopefully someone will let me know if the addon starts throwing error messages. (I doubt it, I can't see Blizzard changing anything about how hovering unit names are handled mid-expansion.)

Also, I'll try to at least blind-code the scaffolding for the settings window I promised a few posts back. Once it's done you'll be able to configure 3 different named modes each with it's own settings on what to show and then switch between them by left clicking the addon.

Yeah, so that's coming, in the meantime I hope I can have your patience while I get my 'house' in order.
