Simple Runes Bar  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2009-10-19
by: Teek5449 [More]

Simple Runes Bar

Yes, another rune bar

The difference here is that all you get is a simple horizontal bar that contains your six runes and nothing else. These runes are not the default round icon that Blizzard provides but a bar that once you use your rune will fill up as the cooldown timer ticks away. There are a few options, you can move the bar where you like and also resize the runes via some simple in game slash commands. These settings will be saved between sessions.

Options:

  • /srb - Show the in game menu with this command list.
  • /srb lock - shows or hides the anchor that allows you to position the bars via your mouse.
  • /srb width NUMBER* - Changes the width of the runes to be NUMBER wide. NUMBER can be 0 through whatever (including decimals). e.g. "/srb width 50" will give the runes a width of 50.
  • /srb height NUMBER* - Changes the height of the runes to be NUMBER high. NUMBER can be 0 through whatever (including decimals). e.g. "/srb height 30" will give the runes a height of 50.
  • /srb defaults - Will set the addon to the default. All settings are lost.
    * note: If you do not enter a NUMBER then the current width / height will be displayed.

The homepage for this project is HERE.
Any bugs should be submitted via the tracker HERE.
As far as feature requests go, I made this to be as simple as possible with little to no setup or configuration and I do not want to succumb to feature creep like a lot of addons do. I may consider releasing a second branch of this addon with a full feature set but right now I will just iron out any bugs that show up in this release.

This addon is great, however, when I log out then log back in after moving the bar, it goes back to the middle.

Can't lock it perfectly...

I'm having a problem where I line the bars up perfectly with my Pitbull unit frame, and adjust the size so it stretches across said frame perfectly. But when I log out and log in again, or even just reload my UI, the rune bar have moved 1-2 steps to either the right or the left.

Other then that, I just love this addon. Just annoying having to move it every time.

Can anyone give me the name of a mod that puts just horizontal bars like SRB? Magic Runes will only let your horizontal bars stack on top of each other, and no other rune bar I've seen even has the option for the nice small horizontal bars. I really like the look of this, its very similar to the oUF_RuneBar. I'm working on lua, and learning veeeeery slowly, but its too hard for me to jump into someone else's work and figure out how they are doing what they are doing, much less how to do what I want within their code. I appreciate your mod, and I appreciate your explanation; I know why there are 6 frames now. Thanks!

Yup six individual frames. It's just easier for me to make on the fly calculations to the width that way. I have it in a parent frame for my own individual setup but since I hard code all of my addons for my personal preference this was never an issue. I only did it this way because people wanted an adjustable size and sizing the six containing frames to one parent frame poses a few problems in itself.

I only released this addon because some people in my guild were using it and wanted some simple options. I have about 30 addons that I have written for myself and they are all hard coded but since most people can not even open a .lua file I almost never release an addon that I have written with very, very few exceptions.

Goose has some serious limitations currently, including the inability to add more than 3 frames to hide (its a bug, a ticket has been filed but no word yet). Also, there are 6 frames, not one, so you have to add all six to Goose (see bug) or any other UI hider. This is just silly IMO. There should be a containing frame so that if I want to hide them with another mod, I don't have to add 6 frame names. Its ok, I just went back to Magic Runes. But I think it would be a good feature to add in the future.

...but a new feature is by definition feature creep.... I know it is easy but it adds a whole new set of loops and checks and another boolean to track and, and, and.... you get my point I hope. Just trying to keep is extremely simple and lightweight on resources. It started out purely .lua config with just a simple alt-click and drag to position. But that is just too simple for most so a few slash commands and saved variables were needed to keep the vast majority happy. That's all I'm adding.

You are more than welcome to use the code and make it your own. It is released under the GPL license so have at it as long as you follow the guidelines set out under the GNU GPL.

I hate to say it but what features are there is it..... trying to prevent feature creep like too many addons suffer from nowadays. All are valid suggestions but this is it. I will only release bug fixes if needed.

If I add more it becomes bloated, right now it is a very lightweight addon.

Suggestion: Vertical Alignment.

Basically the entire layout, but vertical. It would go great with my vertical hud.

Would love to see a Runic Power bar added. Like a frame around the box that fills from left to right as your RP goes up. Then it would be perfect!
