Ripped

Version: v0.1-beta25
by: inopua [More]

What is Ripped?

Ripped is a tool that assists players with obtaining and keeping a optimal DPS cycle (or spell rotation / spell cycle / spell priority).

This comes in handy, even for experienced players in stressful situations or where keeping an overview would be hard (noticing that your important debuff has run out, or reapplying a debuff/buff too early etc).
How do I use Ripped?
After loading the plugin, use the command

/rip gui

to open up the configuration menu to set the active strategy (look under the heading Generation and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Dont forget to check under "Strategies" if you are looking to configure your selected strategy. Options usually include changing priorities and what buffs you want to be reminded to keep up on yourself.

Known issues

PLEASE report any issues you have with the addon in the comment section or email me, as I require your feedback in order to enhance the strategies/addon.

No abilities are suggested

Did you remember to set a strategy in the gui? (see above for how)

No abilities are suggested, and I've set a strategy

Some people have reported no spells/abilities showing up in the gui on slower (or too fast?) pcs. The solution has been to type /script ReloadUI() or try to press the "Load spells" and/or "Load talents"-buttons in the main gui.

UI lag when using Ripped

This usually is because you've set it to generate 20 steps, which might cause it to generate states upwards of 2-5 minutes in the future, which of course will take time. Set the "Generation"->"Generate steps" down to about 5-6 or so (or why even use more than 2-3?) and it should disappear. Also remember that "Max number of steps each update" does a great job even at 1.

Which classes can benefit from using Ripped?

Currently, it ships with built-in strategies for the following classes:

  • Druid (feral (cat and singletarget bear beta), moonkin)
  • Mage (fire, frost (beta))
  • Paladin (retribution, holy (beta))
  • Priest (shadow)
  • Rogue (combat swords beta)
  • Shaman (enhancement)
  • Warlock (destruction, affliction)
  • Warrior (fury (beta))

Some of the strategies needs improvement, so please use the bugtracker/submit comments etc to assist me in getting the strategies down

For the rest of the classes and specs: support for you will be coming soon, and suggestions are welcome

I don't like your strategies and/or I have my own idea for what's _best_

The addon has been designed to be both flexible and extensible and supports any number of strategies supporting any number of classes and specs that can be written in the form of plugins. More details on this is available upon request and will be properly documented once we get closer to a stable release.

FAQ
I dont understand the syntax of the "watched buffs". Explain.

You can change the buffs being watched by opening up the config gui (using /rip gui) then going looking at Strategies->"Your active strategy". There you'll find a field called "Watched buffs", which supports the following syntax: "Buff1, Buff2, Buff3 | Altbuff4, Buff5". This will make sure you have the buffs Buff1, Buff2 and Buff5 up, and either one or both of Buff3 or Altbuff4.

TODOS
  • Better/more strategies for druids, mages and rogues.
  • Optional integration with DrDamage to support warriors/bear form druids better (is this needed? need community feedback).
  • Support for hunters (and down the line, deathknights of course)
  • <Your request here!>

I like your idea, how can I help you?

Ok, how do I get in touch with you?

Leave a comment on this page, use this addons bugtracker, or even send me an email at: inopua at gmail dot com.

v0.1-beta25:
- wotlk support (for druids and shadowpriests)
- basic support for feral glyphs (rip/mangle) - more coming when they prove worthy
- I need feedback in order to create some decent strategies in this post-3.0 world, as I dont regularily play any other classes, so leave comments etc. on how you would like your class to be supported.

v0.1-beta23:
- Now tracks the troll priest racial Shadowguard (to use it, just use "Shadowguard" as a watched buff).
- Massive performance enhancements for the shaman strategy (and button mashers alike).
- Added a small strategy for elemental shamans.
- Now correctly compensates for cast times on UA, Immolate for warlocks and Vampiric Touch for priests.

v0.1-beta20:
- Added support for Curse of Doom as an option for warlocks. If it gets resisted, it will fall back to Curse of Agony if can get 7 or more ticks out of it (8 ticks = full CoA duration, 24 seconds).

v0.1-beta19:
- Internationalization (Should work for french, german, spanish and english clients now -- I've only personally tested it for warlocks, druids and priests with a german client, so please share your experiences).

v0.1-beta18:
- Fixes the uncheckable curse box for warlocks.

v0.1-beta17:
- Fixes some previously missed debuffs from Druids, Mages and Paladins
- Better checking for totem buffs (locale-independent)

v0.1-beta15:
- Now supports German and Spanish clients in addition to French due to some dynamic spell-name lookup that needs testing outside of my enGB/enUS client, so please report any issues etc.
- Fixed a bug that caused spells to not get pushed forward correctly (when using spells with a cast time) (common errors was an empty spell bar for some time etc).

v0.1-beta13:
- French localization added (thanks to Laumac). (needs testing to confirm its correctness - so report if you find any issues).
- Performance enhancement: Only checks for buffs/debuffs when needed (i.e when recomputing)
- Fixed a corner-case bug related to clearcasting (for druids).
- Now correctly identifies weapon buffs without ranks (like oils/lures), which were causing issues for some users.

counting other locks

Ripped seems to be counting the debuffs of other players of the same class which basically makes it unusable for a warlock.

Skinning?

Any way to skin these buttons so that they look edgy, and not rounded?

Nice addon, but is there a way to change the Retadin rotation or am I just stupid? Your rotation tells me to put on Seal of Command, then just Crusader Strike all the time...

EDIT: And Judgement of the Crusader has been removed from the game since patch 3.x.

I've updated it to 3.0.3 and are trying different strategies for druids, and the priest one is pretty much working fine still.

The other classes, however, needs more looking into, especially rogues, which I would love to support, but its not a class I play myself, so I have no idea what rotations/priorities rogues are going with these days. Anyone care to enlighten me?

EDIT: might add that I've not uploaded it yet, but probably will in the coming days

Due to real-life concerns I wont be able to update the strategies and make sure everything works with WotLK until after my exams, so it will unfortunately not be updated until this christmas. The strategies people use seem to be changing every other week these days too, and people getting new skills/talents on the way to 80 means a lot of time would be wasted trying to aim at such a moving target, so I hope you understand this decision.

So to answer pärs question: I plan to continue this addon once I get the free time to update it and do it right (christmas).
Absolutely understood! Best of luck with the exams! Any chance we could get the documentation to update/edit strategies in the interim?

It's funny that in the feral druid sequence in the screenshot it suggest using Prowl and then Faerie Fire, which is completely pointless... IF you Prowl, you do it so you can open with Ravage or Pounce, the only two moves that require you to be stealthed.

Ok, just uploaded a new version that has some performance enhancements for shamans, and it seems like the biggest performance issues will be in the strategies themselves, and not the general framework I've written.

Since I dont play all 8 classes regularly, I'll need your help in pointing out the strategies that works really bad, either with respect to UI lag or the general suggestions. Thanks in advance

Just as a small update: I'm currently leveling a shaman, and noticed that the addon would create horrible lag on my semi-low-end computer during combat, even with a low sequence of steps being calculated.

I'm currently looking at ways to optimize the generation, and will keep you posted/upload an update when I find something worthwhile to calculate. Until then, I have a question to the users:

Would it be acceptable to create empty/blank spell suggestions when there is more than 1 GCD of doing nothing? Right now it moves the virtual time 200 ms forward when no spell has been generated (since time is the factor that causes cooldowns to come back, debuffs to wear off etc). Or is the current way of showing the next spell working fine?

(and yeah, curse of doom was added a few days back)

Ok, I've tested it with the German client, and there obviously was a bug regarding the loading of the native language spell names (to be specific they were loaded too early, before the WoW API had initialized itself, so it was getting empty spellNames back from known spellIds).

A new version will be uploaded within the hour, that has been tested for warlocks, druids and priests with the german client. If you find any bugs/issues/places to improve, just post here etc
