Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- This concludes the conversion of all DataStore modules to make them compatible with all versions.

- DataStore_Containers: Fixed COMMON_NUM_BAG_SLOTS to be NUM_BAG_SLOTS + 1 for retail, and NUM_BAG_SLOTS for non-retail, instead of the opposite.

- Fixed an issue where sorting the bags while the merchant frame is opened would trigger a slow down (Thanks Belazor !)

Altoholic is fine, it has been caused by EQCompare which is broken with 3.0.2. The strange thing is: For testing I disabled all Addons but Altoholic (and ACP of course) and did a reloadui. This did not get rid of the error caused by EQCompare, even when it had been disabled. Only a complete WoW restart with EQCompare disabled from the beginning fixed it.

This has been requested a few days ago on curse, it's a good idea and I really think the feature will make it to the addon, most likely in the next release.

You can disable this addon and reload the UI. I use the built in focus frame, and this happens only when i set the focus with the right click menu. If i set the focus just with a /focus command, it works fine. Otherwise an excellent addon, thanks for sharing it! Edit: I had a clean install, no previos savedvariables at all. I basically never tried to use "set focus", so I'll try and see if something happens on my side as well (probably yes). Thanks for reporting, I'll fix this as soon as technically possible

Not really working. I now run some tests with only BugGrabber and Altoholic installed and it gives me a lot of errors. I will try to send information by email (screenshots and lua errors), maybe you can fix it.

I will shortly post an update that fixes this issue. Make sure to follow the instructions in the changelog to determine whether or not you should clean your saved variables and reload your characters. No screenshot, because nothing LOOKS different.

The issue works like this. If I open my bank in Combuctor, and Altoholic isn't loaded, it just works. Everything's normal.

If I have Altoholic up, the buttons in Combuctor's bank don't work -- they highlight as if they would, but they're unclickable. If I switch tabs in Combuctor, and switch back, they work.

I messed around with Iriel's DevTools, and discovered that there's a single extra frame being created which is over the Combuctor buttons, and has only one component -- a hook for "UpdateTooltip". So I did a bit of searching by disabling and enabling addons, until I found out that if I disable Altoholic, the frame in question disappears -- and so does the mysterious behavior.

To reproduce: Have Combuctor, Altoholic, and DevTools. /dtframestack, and then try to use the bank. Note how there's an item in the frame stack just ABOVE the Combuctor button, but if Altoholic is gone, so's that item.

I don't think it is at all possible.
Because top levels SavedVariables data saved per-account. There are just no legal way to interact with different account data in Lua. Correct me if I wrong.

Quick Question - I have ten characters on one realm and I'm trying to manage the mail being sent between each. Is there an easy way to see what mail is about to expire and be deleted in a summary? I know I can go to each character and see what is about to expire, but I was wondering if there is a query/search that would just list the mail in danger (I don't want anything to be auto deleted by accident). Let me know if there is a summary search that can do this instead of going to each character. Thanks again for an incredible mod!!!!

You're quite right, but Linux and Mac users can deal with this quite easily. You can just symlink one account's name to another in your WTF/Account directory on a Mac. (There was a bug around 2.4 which broke this, but they fixed it.)

I heard about symlink, but that is not something I want to support. I think that deliberate data sharing between two connected accounts is the best way to go, by using the networking functionalities of wow. Player 1 asks player 2 if he agrees to send all info, player 2 agrees, player 1 saves info. Simple as that. I'm not willing to minimize the complexity, I just want to say that it's possible, others have done it before, there's no reason why I couldn't make it either @seebs: about that combuctor issue, maybe a hidden frame is present in a higher layer, and prevents you to reach the button. Did you try that command to get the name of a frame ? I don't have the command under the hand, but you can find it on wowace forums. I'll post it later.
