Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Need Help?
Do not use comments to report bugs or request features. Such comments will be deleted. Use the links above to post a ticket instead!
Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

If I'm understanding correctly, the layout is anchored by the TOPRIGHT point, and each group is anchored the same, so that the layout starts in the top right corner, additional units in each group appear below, and additional groups appear to the left?

If that's the case, try switching the layout anchor to TOPLEFT, but keep the group anchor as TOPRIGHT. This way, if you're in a 10-man raid, group 2 will be near the edge of the screen, and group 1 will be closer to the center. If you're in a 40-man raid, group 8 will be near the edge, and group 1 will be a lot closer toward the center.

If that's not the case, can you take a screenshot?

As for the tab, when you say enabling the "Show Tab" option "does nothing", do you mean the tab does not appear, or you can't click on the tab? Keep in mind the tab is only visible when the layout is unlocked (the "Frame Lock" option is unchecked) -- the "Show Tab" option just lets you hide the tab without locking the frame.

If the tab is visible, but you can't click on it, you likely have some other addon creating an invisible frame over the top of it. Type "/fstack" and move the cursor over the tab. Look in the frame stack tooltip and see if any frames from other addons are listed. Also, see if it still happens when all other addons are disabled.

Frequently (pretty much every time I log in) my Grid has migrated across my screen. Normally I anchor it near the left side of my monitor, but it migrates to the point that group one is at about the mid point (I use group layout, vertical, right to left.) It is inconsistent and will sometimes align itself only about 1/3 of the way, when the "intended" lock point is roughly 1/4.

When I go to my /grid settings, clicking "Frame Lock" brings up the Grid tab to allow me to move it. Clicking the "Show Tab" does nothing, it won't allow me to interact with the button.

edit: I suspect this has to to with periodically having more than 25 people in my raid (for world bosses, etc.) I have the "5th" group nearly on the right most side of the monitor, and when it adds a 6th group, it forces Group1 away from the anchor permanently. I guess I don't mind that behavior when there are 8 groups, but I'm not sure I want it to save that anchor point when I'm in a 10 or 25m setting (which is 90% of the time.)

GetRaidDifficulty is no longer in the API and the latest version of grid still calls to it breaking it.

Version 5.2.0.1571
  • Updated for WoW 5.2
  • Added an in-game Help panel with basic info, tips, and FAQs
  • Added a 40-Player Raid layout setting
  • Added a By Class 40 layout
  • Added an option to use the 40-Player Raid layout while in a raid group outside of an instance
  • Added an option to change the layout frame background texture
  • Removed the "Clamp to screen" option; the frame is now permanently clamped, since there's no real reason to allow it to be moved off-screen
  • Changed the "Hide tab" and "Hide minimap icon" option to "Show tab" and "Show minimap icon" -- translators should verify the localization of these options

This really isn't the place to be discussing kgPanels scripts. You should post a forum thread instead.

What about this? Adding the code to OnUpdate as that works but it just wont let me have them showing on Solo even if I change the Grid settings on Solo from none to something else. Is there something I can add which would fix this? Like some code that works out if solo is set to anything else besides none and then it skips the "GridLayoutFrame:Hide()" function?

It won't work in the OnClick because changing the profile isn't an instantaneous action. When you issue the "change profile" command, that command goes to AceDB, which just does some metatable stuff and fires a callback. The rest of your OnClick script finishes executing before any of the functions registered to handle that callback get executed, including the functions in Grid that actually updates Grid's appearance to reflect the settings in the new profile.

Hi again, my problem with the Grid frames showing when switching profiles is still happening and now after much more testing and experimenting, I can confirm that it is not a plugin issue. When I posted about this problem on wowace I was unsure as the problem randomly seemed to fix itself but this didn't last for long. It can be random at times but mostly it always happens.

The problem occurs with no plugins enabled and when I use the Profile tab in the Grid config menu like you are meant to. I know many other people who are having this issue too.

I will post this on wowace but for now I have one question. As I said before I use a KgPanel which changes many profiels for me including Grid and I have been experimenting with trying out a script to do "GridLayoutFrame:Hide()" if I am not in a Group and "GridLayoutFrame:Show()" if I am. I have added it with the KgPanel OnClick script section and OnLoad but both do not seem to work. It only works if I add the following on the OnUpdate script:
Code:
if IsInGroup() then
	GridLayoutFrame:Show()
else
	GridLayoutFrame:Hide()
end
The problem with this though is that I like to change the "Solo" Layout of Grid from none to 25 Player so that I can configure the frames. I was wondering if there was something I could add to this so that if Solo is set to anything else but none the "GridLayoutFrame:Hide()" will not take affect.

Sorry if this seems very long and I hope it is easy to understand. Thank you so much for your time and development towards this fantastic addon!

Please post a ticket on WowAce with all of the info requested on that page. If you don't have a Curse account and are strongly opposed to creating one, report back here with all of the info requested.

Hey Phanx. I keep getting this annoying lua error with grid when I try changing Profiles in a raid while out of combat. I can understand Grid acting up if you tried changing profiles while in combat but that's not the case. I need to change my Grid Profile for many reasons when I enter a raid such as to change to my 40 Player raid set-up as I like smaller raid frames etc. Some times this lua error doesn't occur if I switch very early in the raid group which is good but other times if I've been in the raid for 5 minutes for example then it can bug out.

This is the lua error I get:

Code:

By default, the background color is 20% of the foreground color, which is controlled by the "Unit Health" status color (unless you've enabled the "Health Bar Color" indicator and assigned some other status to it). If you check "Invert bar colors" in the Frame options panel, then the "Unit Health" status color controls the background color instead, and the foreground color is 20% of the background color.

If you want the background to be lighter than the foreground, then uncheck "Invert bar colors" and set the "Unit Health" status color to a brighter version of the color you want for the foreground.

If you want a totally different color for the background, you will need to use a plugin that adds that feature or edit Grid's code yourself.

I'm not really sure what you're asking. If you're seeing the Dread Shadows debuff status show up on the Center Icon indicator, that means you assigned the Dread Shadows debuff status to the Center Icon indicator. If you don't want it to appear on that indicator, just un-assign it. Grid > Indicators > Center Icon > Uncheck "Debuff: Dread Shadows".

If you're using a third-party plugin to provide statuses for those debuffs, instead of just adding them in the standard Grid > Status > Auras menu, then you'll need to refer to the plugin's documentation and/or ask the plugin's author for help.
