SoundShare

Version: 4.0.5
by: micalo [More]

SoundShare is a very slim AddOn which allows to "share sounds" with one another, or more specific: send sound messages by typing ))<sound name> or choosing a sound from a list.

New features:

"thinner" layout and more sounds

  • Two new channels can be selected for playback (independent of the current sticky channel) : via red )) "soundshare", via magenta )) a user defined channel
  • A simple menu , to mute SoundShare, define the size of the track queue, and select the user defineable channel (Please keep in mind that antispam only works for the channels: group, raid, and guild)
  • Removed lags when playing multiple tracks, with track-queue size = 0 multiple tracks can be played at the same time
  • Move or hide the list via right-click on the SoundShare logo
  • Resize list by grabbing the lower right corner
  • Scroll list with mouse wheel

anti-sound-spam
  • playback via track list:
For the channels: group, raid, guild, or whisper an internal AddOn channel ("SOUNDSHARE") is used, thus, players without this AddOn are not disturbed.
You can set the active channel with three "))" symbols at the bottom of the list:
    1. yellow: use sticky channel
    2. blue: use group or raid channel
    3. green: use guild channel
  • only one sound at a time is played - additional sounds are added to a queue (you can set the size of the queue with /ss q <new size>)
  • if SoundShare is muted (toggle with /ss mute), all messages that start sounds are catched.
  • NOTE: sounds are now played with ))<soundname>
  • it is also possible to place a sound commando within a text message, to play sound "yes.mp3" type:
    "its so great! ))yes"
    or:
"please forgive me, say ))yes) please!" ... you have to mark the end of the sound title with a single ")"

If you want to add your own sounds:
Prerequisites:

At the moment it is not possible to check if a sound has finished to play,
therefore information about the tracks duration has to be collected.

I use mp3info
It's not allowed to include exe-Files here, so you have to download it yourself, e.g. version 0.8.5
Open the zip and copy the exe file to your SoundShare directory - That's it!

If you want to use an other tool, or write your own python script ..., you have to adjust generate.bat
or generate an output like SoundsToAdd.lua.
(If you want to share it I will distribute it in the next SoundShare version. But: no binary executables)
  • Add sounds:
    1. Copy them to the SoundShare/Sounds/ folder
    2. run generate.bat
    3. *NOTE* You must restart WoW for new sounds to work!

Now you can play them by clicking on the list - or type: ))<soundname>
  • You can view help with /soundshare or /ss.

Origin:
It's from Hexarobi, and my friends and I enjoyed it a lot - until patch ~2.4 - when it ceased to work.
We often talked about it, at last I made my first steps at lua-"hacking" and adjusted it to the current client interface.

Thanks to Hexarobi, for this great idea and permission to share it with you

Sample sounds can be found in the Sounds folder, add your own sounds or download a sound pack to expand your collection.

I hope you have fun,
micalo

you have to build up a collection of sounds and share it with your friends/guild-mates before you can send sound messages, so: no, it is not a p2p music share AddOn - afaik it is not possible to send files or stream media from within wow ( is it ? )

I am not sure if I understand "is it just RP thing"..
you can use it for RP-like-emotes - but equally well to play non-wow-related sounds if you get tired of the ambient music.. it's up to you...

it's probably a problem of SoundShare, because it is not usable out of the box - the "work" of building a sound collection is left to the users...

The next version will have a resizable list, and I want to improve the spam filter for the guild channel, hmm ... SoundShare without spamming, is it still fun?

I am not sure about the "place sound commands within text messages" feature - "bla bla ))yes) " is not very nice, neither the double "))", which I have introduced so that single brackets can be used without missing messages when SoundShare is muted.

ideas are welcome
