This is a great idea. There are some interesting books in the game world, coming from the perspective of a new player.

Just a note that the absence of a 1.10 update isn't a sign i've forgotten about Bookworm, just that it needs more work than I have time to do tonight.

Fixed scrolling issues!

Many apologies that it took me so long, but the scrollbar issues are fixed in the 1.11 build. (It also does font swapping in a cleaner way internally, not that you'll notice)

Another great mod, Iriel, thanks

One thing about this addon though, is that when you open a mobile document, like an Arcanum or one of the Quest letters, you know from, say the magistrate in Redridge asking for help from Westfall, Darkshire or whatever.. the location is updated in Bookworm. It doesn't bother me much, it's just a niggle.

Not working anymore. Error below. Nothing is recorded, just the book's header. Please fix.

Thank you for fixing bookworm :-)

you are soooo friggen awesome, thank you for picking this up and making it work again, this is by far the best addon ever for recording books. there were others that tried to fill the void, when this stoped working but now if this works with the next patch I will be very very happy :-)

as always keep up the great work, and I hope this stays around for as long as WOW exists.

Problem with Datafile

I have a datafile for Bookworm with books, notes, and letters that I have collected over the last 2 years playing WoW. This new version of Bookworm doesn't seem to like the old file - I am continually getting "..\SavedVariables\Bookworm.lua:XX: unfinished line near 'Quoted text'...(where XX is a random page number)" errors, and then the datafile is wiped (I have to reinstall from backup again). I have tried deleting offending books from within the datafile, but the error never advances through the file as I progress.

Is there any way to save the old datafile - clean it up or fix the formatting for the new version?

I have exactly the same problem. I haven't tested if it actually records new books yet, but I assume it does. And if it does, that means that we will have a new and old database that needs merging if this problem persists for a significant time :x .

If I knew what the problem was I'd be glad to write a converter or something?

Question Transferring old data

Is there a possibility to import the old data file and convert it? Or is the old data lost?

I really love this addon

I really love this addon

I also want to thank the developer for a great Addon! And would like to share how I saved my old data.

Before installing the new version I grabbed out a copy my Bookworm.lua file from my SavedVariables folder. I'm VERY glad I did this because, if I not I would have likely lost all my saved data.
NOTE: if you are scared you may have lost data, you can try to look at the Bookworm.lua.bak file in the same SavedVariables folder.
To get the data back I had to manually edit the data file. I found that preceding every \n there was a hard carriage return that was breaking up the string concatenation. In layman terms that means everywhere in that text file that you see \n place your cursor directly to the left of the \ and hit delete, deleting the return character and moving the \n back up to the end of the line of text above it. (hope that makes sense)

I had more than a years worth of collected data, and this process took some tedious editing, but it does indeed work. It also helps if you have a text editor that will color code LUA syntax. (I used Smultron http://smultron.sourceforge.net/)

Remember to always edit on a copy!

good luck

Re: Re: Transferring old data

I know how to back it up unfortunately i forgot to. Unfortuantely (probably because i did a reloadui) it over wrote my .bak file as well. So *poof* gone. This is one of my fav mods (Thanks Iriel!) so I hope it gets fixed up soon. Just wondered if I could get a data file from somewhere to replace mine.

Re: Re: Transferring old data

(Sorry, I can't write English well )

Thank you Iriel, I am interested in the story of WoW, so Bookworm is my favorite mod.
I am happy because I can use this mod on patch2.0.

And thank you Pentamorous. I refer to your post, I made a tool to convert old Bookworm data file to new format.
It have worked correctly for my old Bookworm.lua.
Note: It needs .NET Framework 2.0.

How to use:
Copy old Bookworm file. Its path is usually "C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/AccountName/SavedVariables/Bookworm.lua". Copy it to another location.

Download tool from here.
http://www.vgmaterials.com/etc/FixBo...ookwormLua.zip

Extract zip file and execute "FixBookwormLua.exe" in extracted folder.

Push "select" button to select old "Bookworm.lua" file.
Selected file's path is displayed in "Old Bookworm.lua file" text box. Confirm it.

Push "start" button to convert file. When convert finished, number of fixed points and created file's name is displayed in larger text box.

New file "Bookworm.lua_fixed" is created in same folder(the folder contains old Bookworm.lua you selected).
Confirm contents of "Bookworm.lua_fixed" and click top-right X to exit tool.

Copy "Bookworm.lua_fixed" to the folder "C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/AccountName/SavedVariables/".
(If "Bookworm.lua" is in that folder, move it to another location or rename it)
And rename "Bookworm.lua_fixed" to "Bookworm.lua".

Launch WoW and /bookworm browse to confirm that file works correctly.

Have a good trip!
