Greeter

Version: 2.4.3-1.1
by: Jalandar [More]

Tired of typing in "Hello ______" "Welcome back _______" or want an easy way to way to welcome new guild members to the guild? Do you sometimes forget who an alt is, and find yourself welcoming someone again who has just logged out and into an alt?

Greeter lets you configure your own sets of custom greetings, welcome back messages, and new guildie welcoming messages. You can also configure a "real name" to use for each member of your guild (if you prefer to call them by a shortened name, pet name, or real name for instance), or to refer to an alt by their main's name. You can configure alts so that you know not to welcome the same person more than once in a short period of time.

This does not "auto greet." What it does is popup a small interface that you can click on to greet, welcome back, or welcome to the guild the player in question.

It is all easily configurable (type /greeter to bring up the interface).

If you use FuBar, there is now a bundled FuBar plugin. Currently it only toggles the configuration window open and closed. More configuration opens directly from the FuBar interface are being worked on.

TODO:
- Additional configuration options integrated into Fubar plugin.
- Add optional cycling of GMOTD on a timer
- Redesign Configuration GUI to be more efficient and better looking

CREDITS
-------
This addon was started based on an idea from Skint on Bloodhoof (EU) by Greya ([email protected]) and called GuildGreet, which was then taken over by Mordikaiin.
The last version written by Mordikaiin was used as the basis for this mod.

The original German translation is available thanks to Urbin, who also forked the code written by Mordikaiin into his own updated version of the mod, from which none of the code in this mod was taken.

Patch notes for Greeter v2.4.3-1.1

3.1

Does this work in 3.1 or is there any activity to get it to 3.1?

Thank you, I was looking for such versatile helper on this tedious job for a long time!

And as I am playing with a deDE client, I am absolutely amazed that it is localized as well.

It will take a while until I can check it out, but looking at the code, I am not sure if all the special german letters are unicoded correctly... escpecially "ü" and "ö" look strange to me.

Is anybody out there who used this on a german client successfully?
If not, I'll roll up my sleeves and continue localizing it with pleasure!

Thank you!

I didn't take your question as hostile

To be honest, I wasn't even aware that anyone else had picked up development of the mod, and I don't use Curse because its just way too "busy" and "noisy" a site for my tastes (read that as meaning "commercialized" if you like).

Mordikaiin was in the guild I was GM of back in the pre-BC days, and I know he abandoned the mod and the game, and for a few months I kept bug fixing it for my own use. I recently reactivated the old guild and missed this mod. I didn't find any replacements that I liked, so I decided to resurrect this one. I'd been using it for a few weeks before I realized

I've looked at Urbin's fork of the mod, and he's taken it in a nice direction, but probably not one that I will. I may change the name to better reflect where I want to take it. I'm looking at adding in other things that a guild leader would want, that are either not available in mods (that I've seen), or poorly implemented, or part of larger mods that have unnecessary additional features.

Besides the FuBar integration (I'm a heavy fubar user), I also plan to add things like an automatic gmotd recycle. I don't know about other guild leaders, but one thing I get a lot of is people asking me questions about things that are already in the GMOTD, so having the message recycle every so often can help get rid (of some) of that, as well as better remind guildies of important information. Some people don't even see the GMOTD because of all the login messages they get from addons or what not.

Along with that I will probably add some other guild notice functions, where you can configure auto reposted notices to be displayed in guild chat at fixed intervals.

I'm glad to see it has a credits file now.

I really hate the mobs that rise up like this though, it's like the internet equivalent of pitchforks'n torches and that generally makes the community look really quite inhospitable and quite frankly, not all that smart.

If anyonoe thinks that a mod shouldn't be on WoWI, report it to Cairenn and/or Dolby and let them decide because that really would be the proper course of action.

These days though, communities are freaking out even if a mod has similar function to another mod (look at the comments on Armored Man) and that's really alienating, it doesn't look good for the site you're posting on either. It never does. I feel bad for any author that has to put up with this kind of nonsense, because it's only going to drive them away from a community and then they'll never go on to work on bigger and better projects.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and if the original author didn't want this happening then he could simply request its removal too.

Seriously... when did everyone get it into their heads that they were Judge, Jury, and Executioner? It really does make me sad, and very disappointed.

The difference that this is exactly like Guildgreet, i've checked the code and that also looks exactly the same.. but he removed 50% of it. (the advanced features). So basicly without giving the original author credit, he posts his own version...

I say dont download this.
