Bongos2  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.10.1
by: Tuller [More]

I have written a new action bar addon, called Dominos, and am no longer supporting this one. Please feel free to try it out, along with Trinity Bars, and Bartender 3

Bongos is an action bar replacement designed to be both low memory, and easy to setup. It is not as feature rich as other bar mods, but should include the features most commonly used.

Version History
A Brief Guide

Included Addons

  • Bongos2: The core addon.
  • Bongos2 ActionBar: Breaks up the main action bar into movable parts
  • Bongos2 Stats: A display for latency, framerate, and memory usage
  • Bongos2 RollBar: Makes the frame for rolling on items movable
  • Bongos2 CastBar: A movable casting bar, with the ability to show cast time
  • Bongos2 XP: A movable experience bar
  • Bongos2 MapBar: A movable mapbar
  • Bongos2 Options: A dynamically loaded options menu for Bongos

Features
  • Every Bongos bar can be moved, hidden, and have its scale and opacity altered
  • Sticky bars - Each bar can be anchored to any other bar
  • 120 action buttons, which can be setup in any number of bars
  • Both macro and key binding text on action buttons can be hidden
  • Customizable stance transitions for each bar

General Settings
  • To bring up the options menu: type /bongos menu
  • To unlock bars: uncheck the lock bars option in the main options menu
  • To hide or show a bar: unlock bars, then middle click or shift right click it
  • To move a bar: unlock bars, and then click and drag it with the left mouse button
  • To bring up a bar's configuration menu, right click it

Key Bindings
  • Bindings for the Bongos action bar should only be done via the bindings menu in Bongos
  • To bind keys, open the main options panel, and select the bindings option. Hover over a button, then press a key to bind it to that button

Action Bar Settings
  • Accessing general action bar options: open up the main options window (/bongos menu) and select the action bars panel
  • Adjusting the layout of a given bar: unlock bars and right click the bar you want to adjust to bring up its configuration menu
  • Moving buttons: Hold down the key for moving buttons (shift by default), and drag a button. Alternatively, unlock button positions by shift right clicking the mini map button, or unchecking the option in the main options menu
  • Making a bar bigger: You can increase the maximum size of a given bar by reducing the number of action bars. To do so, adjust the action bars slider on the action bar panel of the main options menu. This option will reset the settings of your action bars

Stances and Paging
  • Stances and paging are configured via a bar's right click menu. With bars unlocked, right click the bar you want to change,

Slash Commands
  • All commands start with either /bongos, /bob, or /bgs
  • <barList> can have a possible value of an actionbar number, menu, bags, pet. class, or all
  • You can also specify a group or range of bars, the command /bo scale 1-3 class 1.2 will scale action bars 1 2 3, and the class bar to 120% of their normal size.
  • /bongos - Shows the options menu, if present
  • /bongos lock - Toggles locking bars positions
  • /bongos show <barList> - Shows <barList>
  • /bongos hide <barList> - Hides <barList>
  • /bongos toggle <barList> - Toggles <barList>
  • /bongos scale <barList> <scale> - Sets the scale of <barList> to <scale>
  • /bongos setalpha <barList> <opacity> - Sets the opacity of <barList> to <opacity>
  • /bongos set <profile> - Sets the current character to use <profile>
  • /bongos copy <profile> - Copies all settings from <profile>
  • /bongos delete <profile> - Deletes <profile>
  • /bongos reset - Loads default settings
  • /bongos version - Displays what version of bongos you're running
  • /keybound - Toggles keybinding mode

I'm clearing all your old format bongos key bindings on the next update, and forcing key bindings to refresh properly when other bindings change. Hopefully, that should fix any key bindings issues, and if it doesn't, I'll have to take a look at implementing the old system once again.

The old system is a bit easier to code, but its also hard to do basic things, like right click self cast, or hiding empty buttons in combat. It was also slow, since I relied on GetModifiedAttribute (I actually thought of a fix for it last night, which I may implement and check out).

The new system was developed to rectify those problems: paging is fast again, buttons stay hidden in combat, I can do right click self cast easily, and, as an added bonus, I can finally generate a setup where I have nothing shown in travel form. There are trade offs: I had to implement my own key bindings system, and also write in the whole docking system.

DAB had a nice system for dealing with bars, in that you could have as many buttons on a bar as you wished (up to the 120 button limit). The remainder of the buttons were held in a pool, that further bars could pull from. The specific size of each bar was completely variable.
The main reason I have not implemented such a system is because I want to maintain a bit of parity with the default UI, and also because when I implemented the system myself, I did not think of treating buttons as a pool, and treated them as a stream instead.

Re: Re: Old bongos bindings

However, even if it does work it wont be long before it stops. There seems to be major problems with the key bindings now.

Now you have a clean set of bindings.

Use latest Bongos to assign your new bindings.
When done save a profile.
Load this profile back in immediately.

Bindings should work now.
I'll give that a try.

Oh, BTW, I've come up with a good description (I think) of what I man in regards to the variable bar size request:

DAB had a nice system for dealing with bars, in that you could have as many buttons on a bar as you wished (up to the 120 button limit). The remainder of the buttons were held in a pool, that further bars could pull from. The specific size of each bar was completely variable.

I looking to create the following setup:

Bar 1 = 8 Buttons with 4 Stances (32 buttons total)
Bar 2 = 12 Buttons
Bar 3 = 12 Buttons
Bar 4 = 10 Buttons
Bar 5 = 18 Buttons
Bar 6 = 6 Buttons with 4 Stances (24 Buttons total)
Bar 7 = 12 Buttons
-------------------------
TOTAL = 120 Buttons

I currently run this setup using 60 bars of 2 buttons each. It works, but is a pain to setup and maintain.

Old bongos bindings

I was having all sorts of issues with keybindings in Bongos 7.1.8 messing up last night.
A fix.

Open your characters bindings-cache.wtf.
Delete any unwanted action bar bindings. Old bongos bindings are prefixed with the word CLICK.
Save and close bindings-cache.wtf.
Open WoW.

* Added the option to bind keys directly to the spellbook
What is the chance, that you might add the same feature for the macros and for items? Could bind the key when mouse is over a macro button in the macro interface or over an item in the inventory (I fear that has to be coded for different inventory mods though?) ... and make it modular ;-)

Right now I'm using spellbinder - which supports spells, macros and items. I'm using it mainly for macros, but for some spells too. Your feature to bind keys to spells directly is a bit redundant for me, unless you support macros and items too - so I can decide if I want get rid of spellbinder or Bongos_Binder (if its a modul).

Button order is now reversed on verticle bars

With the change to the 7.* versions the action bars that I previously had set to verticle from horizontal now have have the buttons in the opposite order that were in previous versions (i.e a button that was on the top of the bar is now at the bottom of the bar). Is there a way to change that order back to the old way or offer an option to reverse the order of the buttons a bar?

Thanks,

All of my buttons on action bar 3 disappeared on my warrior. All the stance and page options are ticked and i don't see any buttons. The bar hiding option is off and the bars are not on top of each other. If i mouseover bar 3 bongos says "unused". I cannot drag&drop any skills from the spellbook to bar 3 because there are no buttons at all not even empty ones.

My whole Pet Bar is darkened (not greyed out) and cycircled doesn't work on the pet bar buttons.

Tuller,

Other than 1 issue, everything's working perfectly for me across several characters.

I installed 718b and though you can hide the minimap button, it shows back up for me on relog/reloadui. I open the cfg screen and it's still unchecked. I check it and uncheck, it goes away, but again comes back on a relog/reload.

Just lettin' ya know. Glad to see the empty button on stance change in combat issue is fixed. That was my only previous problem and it's now working 100% for me, even on profile reloads.

(my only wish list items are that we can undock the button like detachedminibuttons mod works (error says SetPoint() is required for mod to work) and that cycircled worked on the pet bar... hehe)

Your work on this mod has made me a 100% devotee of Bongos... I tried the rest, now I use the best.

Thanks for a nifty mod. Took me about 30 mins to passably recreate my old DAB setup

Are you planning to include 'in combat' as visibility condition?

About profiles: I made a profile on one char, switched to other and it came out messy - some bars were in right spot, some weren't, some retained adjustments, some didn't. But when I loaded _same_ profile after UI reload, it came up 100%.

Oh, and

Also, unrelated to the above, I use TipBuddy to move and modify the tooltip and as of Bongos 7.1.8 Tip Buddy seems to be ignoring its settings to place the tooltip in a specific spot on the screen, instead defaulting to following the cursor. The only bar it seems to work on correctly is, oddly enough, the Pet Bar. I know that it's an interaction issue between TipBuddy and Bongos 7.1.8 because if I go back to Bongos 6.12.14 it works fine.
Same problem here. I'm using TinyTip and it seems the anchoring position is ignored. I'd like to be able to use TinyTip's settings and have the tooltip anchored to the center-right part of the screen. Right now I'm stuck with either having it on the cursor or having no tooltip.

Found out that the problem was with Skinner. The MicroMenu Bar works fine if I go to UI Frames>Main Menu Bar and disable it in Skinner.

The only small issue I have now is with CyCircled not skinning the Pet/Class Bars.

My profiles don't work either.

Do we need to delete all previous WTF saved variables and all saved character saved variables?

your instructions only said to delete previous bongos folders so i assumed that meant the addons folder bongos folders and not the saved variables.

I can't even load profiles RIGHT AFTER i save them. If i try to load a profile it just resets to default.
