Threat Plates  Updated this week!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 11.1.41, Classic: 11.1.41
by: suicidalkatt, Blacksalsify

Threat Plates (TP for short) is a addon for customizing your nameplates. It offers a high amount of customization and tweaks to how your nameplates react and look. It also offers some unique features that are not available with any other nameplate addon. I've spent a considerable amount of time improving this addon and any comments or concerns about this addon are appreciated. I'm always looking for ways to improve this addon.

Features:

  • SharedMedia support and many, many, options for name, health, level, and spell text. As well as all of the standard nameplate features such as castbar and icon, elite icons / textures, skull icons / textures, raid marks, and healthbar coloring/alpha/scale.
  • Ace3 profiling.
  • Low memory footprint.
  • Threat system management.
  • Automatic talent detection and role assigning for an easy out of the box setup.
  • Customizable widgets.
  • Customizable totem nameplates.
  • Customizable nameplates for extra customization for specifically named units.
Commands:
  • /tptp - Displays options.
  • /tptptoggle - Toggle Role from one to the other.
  • /tptpdps - Toggles DPS/Healing threat plates.
  • /tptptank - Toggles Tank threat plates.
  • /tptpol - Toggles nameplate overlapping.
  • /tptpverbose - Toggles addon feedback text.
Additional Information:
A considerable amount of information about options and its internal priorities are not gone into details. Most options that are enable or disable based will toggle off options that are no longer changeable once enabled or disabled. If you have any questions about options and what they do, feel free to leave a comment or PM me here for more information.

I had the new Social widget throw an LUA error when I entered the game and Threat Plates didn't work for the whole time I was on earlier. Going to try again today, but there may be an issue. If I get the LUA error again I'll come back and post it here. You may want to pull that feature until it's complete if it's causing some kind of controversy with the client.

Updated should be easily toggled.

Default is off.

Not been online for 3 weeks so not sure whats up.
I noticed this as well, it seems like only the really close to the camera NPCs are showing cast bars.

You can see it in this video at the 1:10 mark, suddenly a mob shows a cast bar under their plate.

If you have a mob targeted when they begin a cast and you have the cast bars enabled, then the cast bar will show.

You actually are juggling between the mobs just after they begin casting and the cast bar isn't shown.

If you were using the default nameplates, they would have reacted just the same.

Hello,

First of all let me just thank you for this amazing addon. The combination of threat plates and your grid setup make my gaming experience enjoyable. Honestly without those two addons I can't play wow anymore

I do have a small question if you don't mind answering. Is there a way I can move the nameplate's alignment on the y axis? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot once again

You should add a RegisterEvent for RAID_TARGET_UPDATE on the Raid Icon module so the color of the hp bar will change colors when the raid target icon is changed.

Some optimizations were made with the internals of Tidy Plates and that is one of the portions which is not updated immediately or by a certain method.

You'll have to post that on the Tidy Plates comments. I had been meaning to ask him about it.

While yes this is possible to be done, the mouseover area of the nameplate is a fixed area and adjusting the height would compromise the accuracy of clicking the nameplates.

The trick has been compromising between updating everything (which eats up CPU cycles needlessly if no changes are required), and updating less (which means that some unit changes may not trigger an update on a specific indicator).

Currently, I have two functions for triggering updates, available to theme authors:
  • TidyPlates:Update()
  • TidyPlates:ForceUpdate()

In the lastest release, using the :Update() function will update all user-controlled indicators, regardless of any (or none) changes in the unit's properties.

In this way, Threat Plates COULD register the event for raid icon changes, and call for a complete update. (I realize that adds some work for you, Kat, but I'm trying to minimize the CPU impact of the core, while still providing the tools for you to achieve your goals)

A possible extension to the current system is adding two new functions, RequestWidgetUpdate and RequestDelegateUpdate.
  • RequestWidgetUpdate will fire an update to all visible nameplates widgets
  • RequestDelegateUpdate will fire an update to all visible nameplates indicators (the functions that control those indicators are called 'Delegate functions' since Tidy Plates delegates control over those indicators to the theme, if those functions are defined)

This will allow a theme to request updates to narrower groups of frames, to reduce CPU load.

Another alternative is to ask theme authors to register specific unit changes to the delegate functions, but that just adds a ton of work for theme authors, and would break backward compatibility with many themes.

Yeah, the cast bars on nameplates are wonky sometimes. It's a behavior inherited from the Blizzard nameplate system.

I've been setting the foundation for a major cast bar overhaul/extension to the core. My ultimate goal is to make cast bars appear whenever possible.

If you have a mob targeted when they begin a cast and you have the cast bars enabled, then the cast bar will show.

You actually are juggling between the mobs just after they begin casting and the cast bar isn't shown.

If you were using the default nameplates, they would have reacted just the same.

Currently, I have two functions for triggering updates, available to theme authors:
  • TidyPlates:Update()
  • TidyPlates:ForceUpdate()

I'll see how it holds up in-game. That particular event isn't fired very often.

Somewhere along the line, my "Non-target Alpha" setting quit working. I'm using the latest version of Tidy Plates: Threat Plates Beta and Tidy Plates Beta available here on wowinterface as of writing this.

I have the option selected to set my non-target alpha to -100%, however in an aoe group all mobs are at 100% alpha including my target. I've played with the setting and I can't seem to get it to do anything to change the alpha. This used to work perfectly several versions ago, but at some point it has stopped working and I'm not sure which version of Threat Plates Beta broke it

Good point. Maybe it's worth just having the Raid Icon event request all those updates, automagically...

Edit: In the next update, OnUpdateRaidIcon will call for refresh on the Raid Icon, and the health bar color.
