MikScrollingBattleText  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 5.7.138
by: Mikord, Resike

Announcements:

  • Version 5.7.134 is updated to work with Warlord of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 and fixes the font preview issues.
  • If you are having issues with the fonts "resetting" on initial game load, update to Version 5.7.137.
  • Version 5.7.138 corrects issues with several triggers like Kill Shot and Hammer of Wrath.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

Morgue:

If you would PM me the combat log message and what event type it uses (if you know how to find it using /msbt search uniqueword, that is), I'll see what's going on there. In the mean time you should be able to create a trigger for it specifically.

Cordatus:

I have that planned for a future version, but for now you can create a suppression to hide it.

A few questions

Great mod! I've decided to use it instead of SCT due to the fact that it's a lot more customizable (triggers, event format, etc.)

A few questions:

Is there a way to set shadow settings for the font?

Is there a way to remove two of the scroll areas and only leave one? For me, they're unused since I prefer all my incoming in one frame, and all my outgoing above the mob.

Is there a way to use Blizzard's sticky animation style?

Is there a way to set up triggers for when my cooldowns are ready?

For those interested in Morgue's earlier question regarding sword spec messages, it seems that Blizzard has removed the combat log entry when it happens (something like You gain an extra attack through Sword Spec). That is why there is not a message for it anymore. It is still possible to create a trigger with a search pattern however.

N00bZXI:

1) I'm guessing you're talking about how thick the outline around the text is which you can set to none, thin, or thick (default) under the font settings.
2) You can't delete the default scroll areas, but you can disable them. Every event/trigger can be set to whatever scroll area you want, so yes you could move the all the things you want to see into one scroll area and have the others disabled.
3) It only has the one sticky animation style.
4) There is a mod by Dorje called MSBTCooldowns (you can find it in the Patch and Addon List) which will use MSBT to display a message when cooldowns are done.

1: I'm referring to FontString:SetShadowColor/FontString:SetShadowOffset, not the outline.
2: I removed them from savedvariables and they seem to be deleted. Not getting any problems like this. Problem solved I guess?

I see you have a "small heals" filter planned. Is there a "small mana gain" filter in the works too? Also, in the meantime, how would I create a suppression to hide mana gains from certain sources? I don't need to see the gains from my Mana Spring Totem, or from Spellsurge, etc. but I'd still like to see how much mana I gain from potions.

Phanx:

Yes, I plan to put in one for mana at the same time as I add the one for heals.

The suppressions work on what is displayed and since it's just +xx Mana, there isn't a really good way to suppress it from particular sources, but you could suppress all mana gains that are under 100 with this suppression pattern though:

%+%d%d? Mana

That would suppress any 1 or 2 digit mana gains which I think should work well enough for you until I can get the new features implemented.

Checking out this mod and so far so good. I was wondering if you were planning on incorperating a minimap button, or even better, plugins for Titan panel and Fubar.

Viscous:

I won't rule it out, but seeing as how everything can be configured with the interface accessed with /msbt, it would be very low on the priority list.

Aestil:

From the looks of that your profile is corrupted. Try resetting your profile with /msbt reset.

What do you think about short spellnames btw? By that i mean to abbreviate them, like instead of (Flash of Light - Player) +amount healed it would be something like this: (FoL - Player) +amount healed.

I guess you could make a new variable for it like %ss (spellshort) and to provide some kind of ease you could add a force short spellnames that either force short spellnames or long spellnames, or custom, as already done.

Question: How would I set up a trigger to display all buffs my target gains? Setting target buff gain to (.+) doesn't seem to find anything.

and

Requests:

Allow us to set custom sticky animations for triggers.

Two sticky animations:

1: Similar to pow, but without the 'jiggle' effect.

2: Fade a message in, and fade it out.

Fisker:

That's not a bad idea. I think it could be implemented without much performance penalty. I'll see about getting it in.

NoobZXI:

Grab witchhunt. It does enemy buff reporting / spell casts and will output through MSBT. As far as the other, sticky animation styles can already be set, it's just that there is only the one available (Pow). If time permits, I'll try to get a couple more styles in the next major release.

I would suggest having some way of throttling pet damage like dots. Maybe it's already an option and I just don't know it...

Here's an inelegant but effective way to disable the Pow jiggling, yet still retain the sticky effect.
  • Open MSBTAnimations.lua
  • Find these lines in the "Animates the passed display event using using the pow style." section (very big kudos to Mikord for making his lua files so neat and readable):
    Code:
    displayEvent.PositionX = displayEvent.OriginalPositionX + ceil(random(-1, 1));
       displayEvent.PositionY = displayEvent.OriginalPositionY + ceil(random(-1, 1));
  • Change (-1, 1) to (0, 0) in both lines.

Voila! Also, it's easy to add your own fonts.
  • Copy the font you'd like to *\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\MikScrollingBattleText\Fonts
  • Open MSBTFonts.lua
  • Add the following line to the existing list:
    Code:
    [Name]		= "Interface\\Addons\\MikScrollingBattleText\\Fonts\\[Font filename.ttf]",
  • [Name] is what you'd like the font to be called in the drop-down menu ("Trebuchet," for example). [Font filename] is the literal name of the font as copied into the Fonts folder ("trebuc.ttf" in Trebuchet's case). Remember to respect capitalizaion, and leave the final "}" at the end of the list.

Also, is there a way to disable the default XP hovering display? I'd like to use MSBT's, but having them both is redundant and annoying.
