Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.


Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.

That's all, and only "Source unit Affiliation can select "you" or "mine" as choises.

Is this a bug or does it just not exist that you can do what i want in this addon? Is there any other way to do it with MSBT?


Edit: Also i am sure i read that "Source unit Affiliation" in fact does mean something like "The affiliation target of the unit who is casting". Which i think means who he is casting it on. Although i don't understand the choise "Mine", but i have tried that aswell and it did not work.

"Source unit affiliation is equal to you" tells the addon that you are the one casting fear. That is why is not working. You will want instead to select yourself as the recipient(destination) of the fear.

Unit affiliation not working

Hi i'm playing warrior and tried setting up so that if someone is casting for example fear on me i will see it clearly. It works as long as i don't add the "Source unit affiliation is equal to you" option. If i add that i wont see anything, and i kind of need it to be able to know when to spell reflect.

Anyone know why this is, or know how to fix it?

This can be done via Add New Trigger. Take a look at the Triggers section in your \AddOns\MikScrollingBattleText\readme.html (also see the preloaded examples in the in-game Triggers list).

In your holy pally example, a simple spell trigger would look something like this:
  • Main Event:
    • Heal
  • Event Conditions:
    • Source Unit Affiliation - Is Equal To - You
    • Skill Name - Is Equal To - yourpallyskillname
You can then edit the font settings of these new triggers from their position in the Triggers list.

Ok, I have to admit I didn't think about this since I literally have no space to fit 2 zones on the place where outgoing events are displayed.
In my situation, having no space for a second zone, is it possible to have different size of text in the same scroll area based on the spell that triggers it?
As a holy paladin for example, LOH, Divine Light and Flash of Light will have text size1, Holy Shock, Holy Light, WoG will have text size2, and hots, or other effects will have text size3.

You could decrease the font size of "Melee Hits" (and/or other events) to your liking in the Events menu.

New Feature

In order to make it very easy to see "important" hits/heals I would really love to see the smaller ones being written with a small text size, and the big ones with a big text size.
I really don't see any use in seeing crits from 100 damage hits, when we can do 40k+ hits, when the important ones pass by unnoticed just cause they were normal hits.
I would really love to be able to setup a max dps limit, and every damage/heal over that is written with max font size. Everything under that dps/heal limit would be nice to have it scaled such way that very small ones would be written with smalles font.
Hope I will get this one day since will make it much more easy to track important spells.

Fix for "Off-Hand" swing merges

I digged into the code and found a workaround for the new "Off-Hand" swing merges (Mutilate, Frost Strike, et al).
The problem is actually twofold.

First, fixing the code to make MSBT aware of the new strikes:

FILE:
\AddOns\MikScrollingBattleText\MSBTMain.lua

FIND:
-- Setup the combat event.
(should be in line 1057)

INSERT BEFORE:
-- Fix "Off-Hand" swings
if (effectName and string_find(effectName, " Off%-Hand")) then
effectName = string_gsub(effectName, " Off%-Hand", "")
end


Now, the second problem is that the new swings obviously take longer to appear in the combat log. Thus we have to give MSBT more time to do the actual merger.

In the same file, find:
local MERGE_DELAY_TIME = 0.3

Change the 0.3 to 0.5.

Note that even with 0.5 the strikes will sometimes still show up as two seperate entries. Increase the value as you see fit.



These changes do not affect other combat parsers like Recount or Skada. It's MSBT only.
Also note that obviously this is for the English client only. For any other language, you'll have to change " Off%-Hand" to whatever it is called in your locale (the "%" escapes the "-" character, be sure to not forget it if you need to look for that character).
