LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

Is there any way to make LH mark notes for TomTom or MapNotes and not both?

At the moment, no. I would like to get an options screen set up for something like this but that will take a few days at the quickest.

The "arrow" is not provided by LightHeaded. Other addons provide that, such as TomTom and Cartographer.

Then you'll need to be more specific. What are you clicking on? Do you have the TomTom arrow on screen (type /way 50 50 to test) Are you in the Death Knight starting area? What level/class?

Curses

Thanks for the great addon, and thanks whatever you decide vis a vis my suggestion to follow:

Not that WowInterface isn't a great site ... but I've been using Curse for a long time, and use their auto-updating application. Would it be possible to add this addon to Curse so that I can auto-update via their application? (At the moment, I have to manually visit this site to check for updates.)

I can download it fine, perhaps try another browser?

No, LightHeaded will not be posted on Curse due to a number of reasons. Apoligies. WowInterface will be releasing a new version of their updater in due course, which should ease a bit of the burden.

Lightheaded is broken into data chunks, currently labelled A, B, C, D and E. Would it be possible to break it up into further chunks? (I'm guessing that an entire chunk is loaded into memory if a quest is contained within it.) Perhaps chunks A - M? I'm guessing that would lower memory usage further, especially for people who only do a few quests per day.

BTW, what is contained in the chunks? Again, guessing that you've got quests grouped into chunks in some fashion, perhaps Eastern Kingdoms in A, Kalimdor in B, etc.

The gain would be minimal and memory usage should not be a problem in any way. Breaking it up further would at MOST halve the memory usage that the addon uses, dropping it from a whopping 2MiB to 1MiB. The addon doesn't load any data unless its requested so for someone who only do a few quests a day.. they should not be having any problems.

They're split up by quest id. The first one contains quests 2 through 2783, the second quests 2784 through 8914 and so on.

That's a shame. Oh well, I only have two addons not currently recognized by my Curse installer (i.e. only at WoWInterface) ... so not a huge headache. (Certainly not going to start running two installers.)

You need to provide more details. Are you using the latest version of LightHeaded? What about the latest version of Carbonite? If so, I suggest you contact them and let them know you are having an issue. [/b]
More details: This has been an ongoing issue with Lightheaded and Carbonite for a while. It happens specifically when using the "Carbonite Enhanced Quest Log" and Lightheaded at the same time. With no other addons running, if the quest log is opened, I get reduced from 30-40 fps to 2-3 fps. The instant it is closed, fps returns to normal. If either carbonite or lightheaded is used independantly, the problem does not happen.

You should be able to independantly test this by simply installing both addons, creating a new toon somewhere with only them enabled, and pressing "L" to open your quest log.

I'll be reposting this in the carbonite forum as well, however, since both addons function normally alone, and only together do they cause issues, I figured it'd be better to have you getting info too. If there's anything I can do to help, please PM me and let me know.

edit for spelling
