PocketPlot 3.0!

PocketPlot has gone through a much needed, and long-awaited, rewrite! See the change log tab for a list of all changes in 3.0, including why I removed custom blip textures.

Features:
  • different shapes for your minimap (now 25!)
  • thin, black border (customizable color/alpha/thickness)
  • border and clock/coords have options to be colored by class
  • optional support for !ClassColors
  • moved and streamlined mail/bg/voice/LFG icons
  • moved zone text
  • option to hide zone text
  • hide tracking button (use shift-right-click on minimap to open menu)
  • SharedMedia support for fonts
  • zoom with mousewheel
  • hides map button, zoom in/out buttons, etc.
  • moved and streamlined clock
  • option to disable the clock
  • coordinates display (click coords to toggle world map, shift-click to send coords to chat)
  • "smart" coords/clock display (change positions depending on what's shown), can show below or above minimap **now with offsets
  • ability to move other frames related to the minimap (durability, vehicle seat indicator, instance difficulty/guild flag)
  • can also move WorldStateAlwaysUpFrame (top-center of screen status display)
  • right-click the minimap to toggle showing the in-game calendar (default flashing ? still shows for new calendar invites)
  • can change the alpha/transparency of the minimap
  • option to hide the minimap in combat and/or pet battles
  • option to display cursor coordinates on the world map
  • each character has a choice of using either a global or character specific profile

Looking for something to move and/or modify the quest tracker? Check out Who Framed Watcher Wabbit?

FAQ:

Is there a slash command?
/pocketplot and /pp

How do I move the minimap or other frames?
In the PocketPlot config window, enable the mover for the frame you wish to reposition in the movers menu. Drag it wherever you wish. When finished, select "None" from the movers menu to get rid of the blue anchor. You can use the "Nudge" buttons to move a frame by one pixel at a time in any direction.

Where can I find more fonts?
For further font choices, I suggest the SharedMedia addon. Have a font you want to use that's not in there? Read the "Instructions for MyMedia.txt" file in the SharedMedia folder.

How can I move the tower capture bars?
I have opted to not support moving those, as it's a PITA to do so. I suggest the mods Capping or SSPVP3 for all of your pvp needs (including moving the capture bars and score frame).

How can I give feedback?
Feel free to leave your comments/questions here, but all bug reports and feature requests need to go to my portal if you want me to remember to do them.

Can I use your code/blips?
All use of my code and custom blips separate from PocketPlot must be for your own personal use and they may not be redistributed separate from the addon. You may use snippets of my code in addons you intend to distribute only after receiving permission, and credit must be given.

Can I redistribute your addons?
My addons may only be redistributed in UI compilations, and any mention of the addon must point to its download page or my portal, both on wowinterface.

v.3.3
- added option to place cursor coordinates on world map
- little code/options clean-up/rearranging

v.3.2
- fix for tracking menu
- updated for Torghast's new Hybrid Minimap
--- as a result, settings for frame strata and frame level have been removed (since the Minimap, Hybrid Minimap and the PocketPlot background have to sandwich with each other)

v. 3.1.3
- update for 9.0
- fixed backdrop errors

v. 3.0.2
- update for map API changes in BfA

v. 3.0.1
- fix bug with moving frames

v. 3.0
- PocketPlot 3.0!
- time for a rewrite and clean up of old code
- options now split out into separate Lua file
- added option to hide minimap during pet battles
- removed option to hide tracking menu button - now hidden for all users - shift-right click the minimap to open
- removed custom blip textures - too difficult to maintain with Blizz rearranging the textures in the file each time they want to add some
- fixed bug with calendar invite texture

------------------------------------------------

v.2.18.4
- hackish fix for Blizzard(?) bug where the indoors map disappears if the minimap alpha is lower than 1 - this means that if you were using a faded minimap, it will reset to full alpha while indoors and go back to faded when outdoors

- updated custom blip textures (7.1 rearranged the icons in the atlas)
- re-enabled the feature

v.2.18.2
- update TOC for 7.1
- fix for nil coordinates error in instances (these are no longer accessible through the API)

- removed: 2 "bigger" blip styles
- added: 2 new blip styles - PPblips soft & PPBlips light
- added: rotations for some minimap shapes
- added: option to hide tracking button (use shift-right-click on minimap to open menu)

v.2.17.1
- fixed lib issue

v.2.17
- updated for Legion
- 2 new minimap shapes
- added shortcuts and optimizations to the coords frame
- temporarily disabled custom blip textures (had the textures all updated, then realized the UI was using a different file now - will be fixed up soon)

v.2.16
- updated TOC number for WoD
- updated minimap blip textures
- added new minimap shape: "Half Round"

v.2.15
- updated TOC number for 5.4

- added MiniMapChallengeMode to the movers list
- made mover frame text one pt larger and outlined

v.2.10.1
- added GuildInstanceDifficulty flag to the movers list

v.2.10
- Updated for Cataclysm!
- new minimap blip textures, supporting all icons
- font preview in options, using AceGUI-3.0-SharedMediaWidgets
- wider coordinates frame, for bigger fonts

It seems to be something with the patch, because it was like that on the PTR, too. I don't touch the blips save for changing their textures. That's all one *can* do to the blips, iirc.

I just updated to 2.5.1. I prefer the Nandini blips from Blipstick, so I've always edited the PocketPlot lua to point to those. I notice with 2.5.1 that the blips are now very small, maybe half the size of what I'm used to.
I tried swapping to your blips included in the folder, and these also seem pretty small compared to the screenshots you have. Any idea what might have caused this?

Thanks Seerah....from reading the wow forums it's looking like these scale with ui scale now, very bad idea.

If I want to use the original blips from default minimap what line in the Lua do I have to change, and to what?

Thanks in advance.

It's found right at the very top of the lua file.

Code:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--	WANT TO CHANGE THE STYLE OF THE MINIMAP BLIPS?	--
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--file path to blip textures (2 styles are included with this addon, or you can find/create your own.)
--If you like the default blips instead, then use "Interface\\Minimap\\OBJECTICONS.blp"

local blips = "Interface\\AddOns\\PocketPlot\\media\\PPblips2.blp"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can't Move Stuff

So the other day I went to redo my UI some and realized that I can no longer move many of the features I once could with Pocket Plot. I can move the Minimap and the Durability frame but the quest timer, achievement tracker and slider tracker (thingy for watching objectives convert in EOTS) are all gone.

Someone mentioned this in another post but I think it was overlooked.

Thanks.

No, wasn't mentioned in another post... If it was, can you link it?

The tower capture bars (for PvP) were never handled by PocketPlot (see the FAQ). Movers for the other frames were removed with 3.1 because the default UI changed and they are now movable without PocketPlot (see changelog).

There are a lot of things I really like about this minimap on. Excellent work.
  • The on-minimap tracking swapper is really nice
  • I love the way you handle new calendar notifications - you're the only one that does that right now and it's perfect.
  • The minimap button icons don't have the stupid circular border, they look really nice, and they're logically positioned
  • Not every minimap addon allows you to reposition the durability and vehicle frames, and it's very nice to have.

What could really use a change is that more customization is needed:
  • the position, and more importantly, the size of the minimap icons should be adjustable
  • Enable Mover For... is a little awkward to use for the minimap, since it won't react to scale changes while it's open, and because it's not semitransparent to allow you to see how the minimap looks underneath it. The ability to actually type in x/y coordinates would also be useful, for nudging things exactly where you want them. Or, sure, actual nudge buttons.
  • character-specific settings
  • This is a big one: other than font and size, zone text can't be adjusted. Personally I'd love to be able to remove it. Maybe a text alpha setting is in order.

Thanks for the comments.

As for your first suggestion, I don't really see myself ever adding that. As you say, they're "logically positioned". If anyone is really picky about that, there are several minimap addons that allow that functionality (such as Chinchilla or SexyMap(?)) or you can move them in the lua file. Each button has it's own section in the code, labeled with comments.

The other suggestions are good ones, though. Could you please add those to the feature requests portion of my portal? It's my to-do list. List them separately, please, in case I get one done before the other. Thanks!

I'll be happy to do that. I thought of another that's fairly big, now that I've toggled between alts with different layouts: we could really use an option to save settings per character. I'll add that suggestion as well

Regarding button positioning, you're absolutely right. It was an easy fix with a .lua edit. Kudos to you for commenting each section so nicely

Edit: Feature requests added

I see a lot of changes in recent versions. Very cool! I'll let you know if I run into any weirdness

Edit with info:
  • The new character specific profile settings work perfectly. I'm using a character specific profile for two characters, and the default profile for a third. I've tweaked a lot of settings on all three characters, and everything acts as it should. I finally get to drop chinchilla entirely which is nice
  • Hide zone text, excellent addition
  • Minimap alpha, very nice to have
  • I dont' think I'll use the "hide minimap in combat" option. What I'm used to is a separate "combat alpha" setting that lets you keep the minimap visible but fade it out more upon entering combat, as an extra visual element on your screen to let you know you're now in combat with something. Just a personal preference. The option to hide it entirely is a nice addition
  • Love the nudge buttons. They're exactly what I was looking for.
  • The mover alpha change was very helpful, and the mover does seem to cooperate a little better now.

Thanks for all the improvements, they're hugely appreciated!

I just found PocketPlot yesterday and now I've finally found a replacement for SexyMap. I really have no idea why someone would want a whole bunch of spinning graphics and borders on their minimap. Great job keeping it simple! I love how you have handled the tracking button (which is really the only thing I have had turned on all the time when I was using SexyMap) and I love that you have zooming in and out controlled by the scrollwheel.

I have a couple requests:

I'd like to mirror the placement of the zone text with the coordinates, so the coordinates would be placed on the inside edge of the bottom of the map rather than outside the map.

I'd like to adjust the amount of text border that is used.

Thanks again for providing this great minimap replacement!

There are icons there, such as LFG, PVP, etc. So, this is not possible without being able to move those icons as well. And then the clock would have to be placed somewhere else, too, when enabled, otherwise the tracking and mail icons would also be covered up. In short, I won't be implementing this feature because of all the changing around that it would require.

Do you mean the outline around the text? I can make it thicker, or I can make it disappear. The outline (and a thicker outline) are hard-coded text modifications in the game and just need applied to text if you want to use them. Is this what you mean?

Thanks again for providing this great minimap replacement!
Thanks, and you're welcome!

Fair enough. I can definitely see that having both the clock and coordinates turned on would result in having some text under or over the tracking icon. I don't use the mail or clock function, so I hadn't considered that.

Yes, I think that's what I meant. I'd just like the option to change between no outline, thin outline, and thick outline on the text. Not a deal breaker by any means, but I do have a personal preference for no outline.

Here's a screenshot of my UI, so you can see where I'm coming from . . . maybe.

That won't be difficult to implement. Please post this as a feature request at my portal - I use that as a to-do list.

edit: for now, if you wish to get your hands dirty, search the code for each instance of "OUTLINE" and remove it.

So, instead of SetFont(font, size, "OUTLINE"), you'll just have SetFont(font, size)
