PlayerScore / GearScore  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 5.0.01
by: Mirrikat45 [More]

PlayerScore Overview
PlayerScore is the next evolution of GearScore and aims at providing a utility infinitely more useful then just the score of a player's equipment. PlayerScore provides raid leaders with a wealth of instant knowledge such as

  • Complete Raiding History - Allows you to view an easy to read breakdown of a player's raiding history including every boss kill and current top-tier raiding progression.
  • Equipment Layout - Well designed layout allows you to manually check a player's gear quickly and easily. Advanced item tooltips make spotting bad items even easier with flags for enchantments, gems, and reforging.
  • Primary Stats - Shows you a break down of the stats a player is gearing for. This provides a great way for raid leaders to make sure player's aren't stacking spell pen, or have 200% hit rating, or DKs gearing for Agility.
  • Talent Spec - View a player's current build. You can also flag talents as bad for a specific spec and have PlayerScore notify you in the future when a player is using those talents.
  • Automatic Character Auditing - PlayerScore will display a list of flags for when players have missing or bad gems & enchantments; bad talent specs; missing equipment; wearing equipment for another spec or class; using pvp items; or riding TRH.
  • Player Ratings - PlayerScore uses our online servers and custom anti-abuse technology to allow players to rate eachother on a thumbs up or down basis. This allows you to easily spot players who don't get along well with others or just plain suck.
PlayerScore also provides a set of very extensive options. Almost every single feature can be disabled to save memory or increase performance. You can also disable features to save space and only provide the information you care about most. You can also run the addon in "Lite Mode" which will disable the entire GUI showing only information on player tooltips.

* Masterloot mode will no longer display players from previous instance groups.
* Character Claiming for
* Quick Rate Mode! In previous versions of the addon, it would become difficult to rate players at the end of a dungeon because they would quickly leave the party.

The new Quick Rate Mode attempts to remedy this by displaying a small window whenever the user exits a 5-man dungeon. There is now an option in the options menu that can disable this feature. You can also type "/psrate" at any time to open the window and rate party members. Due to previous limits within addon, only players who have been scanned by the addon at some point since the last login will appear in the quick rate frame. Finally, all players who join your party at some point during the instance will be listed in the Quick Rate Frame. This means players who join and are then vote-kicked or abandon the instance will appear for you to rate.

The Quick Rate Mode will display each Player's Name (Colored by Class), their GearScore, and Thumbs Up/Down for rating. In addition an Icon will be displayed for viewing the negative and positive factors in a player's score.

*Quick Scan mode has doubled in speed over the last version. Total is now 4 times faster then the original. As a result, it has been enabled by default.

How about damage meters like Skada, Damage Meters, Recount, etc etc? Ever been kicked out of a group because your damage was too low? Those addons are scoring you as well. Why no crusading posts for those addons, requesting that the authors make a "dont show my damage or healing numbers" option?

Even if the author here of Gear Score, decided to add a "hide my score" button, a raid leader will simply inspect you, see you're blues and greens, and tell you "Sorry, but you are not geared enough". There is literally no difference here.

You either have the appropriate level gear to do the instance, or you dont. Most people dont like carrying others through instances. They expect every member to pull their weight. And im sorry, even if you have never gotten hit by a charge, always run fires away from the raid, never miss an interupt, make perfect switches for Vortex, kite Anub with no errors.... you are still a henderance to the raid, when you are underperforming by a pretty large margin, because you lack the gear.

The part i find most humorous about all these complaints... is that you can literally gear up from greens to a 5.2k Gear Score, in a little over a week just by doing randoms and buying badge gear. If you are too lazy to do some randoms for a week, to gear your character up appropriately for the instance you are getting rejected for, you deserve it.

P.S. Blizzard gear scores you as well. Try que'ing for a random heroic in greens / blues right when you hit 80 on a character. BLIZZARD forces you to reach a certain Item Level (ya, gear score), before it lets you participate in the instances.

This addon does the same thing.

Beoko, this really isn't the place to argue over how good/evil GearScore is and start a flame war. If thats what you want head over to the forums.

I myself apologize for replying to Chaos's message. I was inappropriate for me to post in such an angry way.

Please keep "comments" to suggestions, bug reports, requests, and "comments". Thank you.

I was simply responding to your users. Would you please answer the question presented by myself and Chaos?

Putting in an option where people could opt out of being scored isn't a very good idea. To do something like this would require a large amount of communication. The addon would have to ask the player rather or not they wanted to be scored every time you moused over them. They would also have to have the addon to respond with a yes/no answer. So Imagine when Dalaran has 500 people in it and they are all mouseing over eachother asking rather or not they can scan you. The amount of network traffic generated would be beyond acceptable.

Not only that, but this type of communication would be easily exploited.

Finally the entire idea is really silly. I don't see you asking for the right to opt out of Credit Scores when you apply for loans. The fact of the matter is that if GearScore didn't measure the value of your gear people could always look at your item level, or your stats to do the same thing. This would not fix anything.

EDIT: You currently have the option not to be scored anyways. If you see a PUG looking for a group with a minimum GearScore simply do not apply to that raid and the raid leader won't check your GearScore.

So how about putting in a check for a legit GSB that isn't malicious? I've looked over their code, it's not complicated and easily fixable so that it doesn't destroy entire databases. It just lacks a check for the incoming name vs. player, which is a 2 min fix. This would remove any additional traffic.

If the number that showed up in the tooltips and such were just an average iLvl, I wouldn't be arguing this point. Yes, I know the average is available on the main screen, but this isn't what is shown in mouseovers. What is shown is an opinionated score based soley on what one person coded the values at, and this is where I believe most people are having their issue (myself included, I'm not afraid to admit it).

To continue the Creditors example, your score is not based on one sole company. There are 3 of them (not counting smaller unimportant ones) that contribute towards that score.

An alternate solution would be to provide a way for users to adjust the scoring values themselves (but of course keeping defaults, seeing as how they're not unreasonable). This would take the "evil, judging author" out of the equation and the heat can be passed by "talk to the @$$hat, he can control the score values."

EDIT: You currently have the option not to be scored anyways. If you see a PUG looking for a group with a minimum GearScore simply do not apply to that raid and the raid leader won't check your GearScore.
This doesn't stop someone from wasting their time in queue for a random dungeon getting kicked after 30-40 min wait (average during peak on my server for DPS) because they don't have a 5k+ GS for a regular Occ run. I admit that opting out won't change this, but at least they wouldn't have to hear the "ahahahaha, you have 2.5k GS, you suck" when they just hit 80 10 min ago.

Also, there's nothing stopping the raid leader from doing a /who, grab a name, plug it into GearScore (even if they've never seen them) and getting a number popped out for them (from what I've seen, I did install just to make sure I had an idea of what I'm talking about here ) Afterwards, whispering everyone under the sun with "approved" GSs. This could actually become a burden to those with high scores as they get whispers every 10 min for some random scrub begging them to come.

I myself apologize for replying to Chaos's message. I was inappropriate for me to post in such an angry way.
No need, but the gesture is appreciated. I'm a blunt person, as many should know after this many years and speak (type?) my mind quite openly and little regard to how it may come off as "insulting" or "rude".

That and I don't care. This is the internet after all.

Now if we can keep this on this nice civil level without others trying to "Fan the Flames" (**COUGH**Angrysteel**COUGH**), there is a small chance that something may be thought up to keep both sides of the fence happy. This is what I'm shooting for.

@Angrysteel
But I will answer your question, after which you can continue to ridicule me in PMs. Yes, my crusade for scoring fairness will extend beyond GS, but seeing as this is the giant right now, further steps are more likely to succeed if something can be worked out from the source. Think of it like dropping antibiotics in the diseased water supply (poor example, but first thing I can think of for a comparison, work with me). That water becomes clean, but the irrigation system that has stemmed from it isn't. Eventually, the good water will flow down into them, purifying the entire system, but it will take time.

Downloaded the 3.1.13 yesterday. Love the new ranking for each possible build on items! That is awesome. However I have also found that anytime I hit "shift" to compare an item in my bag to one that I am wearing my frame-rate drops to to near disconnecting -- went from 30fps to 4fps

When I disable GearScore (logged back into the game in the exact same location) I had no frame rate loss at all. And the only addon I updated yesterday was GearScore.

Keep up the awesome work. Hope this is something easily found.

EDIT: I compared the zip files for 3.0.17 to the 3.1.13 and found that you added "bonus scanner" to the mix. This was the file that my memory monitor said was going nuts when I hit "Shift" but I had not realized that it was a new addition until I looked back at the Zip files.

EDIT 2: I deleted both folders and reinstalled from the most recent zip (I see there were two uploaded with same number). This has helped, my frame rate only dropped from 32fps to 15fps. But still seeing a drop in FPS when comparing items, and it seems related to bonus scanner.

Had two guildmates check and they both showed a 10pt FPS drop when comparing items using "shift" -- just wanted to include all the info

Hope this info helps.

I will not go into the pro/vs GearScore argument for a simple reason.

It is essentially a social issue and those are by nature never-ending.
It doesn't mean I don't have an opinion or side but I realize the futility of trying to argue what eventually comes down to social dynamics.

That out of the way I do have something to add on the technical feasibility of a simple opt-out feature.

Whether the author chooses to incorporate the method invalidating the need for gearscore blockers or database "corruptors" is up to him.

Note that if you're paranoid about it you CAN opt-out of the blizzard armory (and any of the sites scraping it) for anything to do with gear.
You just need to go 'nekid' before logging out each time or swap in whatever items you want armory to have you in (like that nice quill set).

At this moment if for whatever reason (practical or ideological) you "hate" GS you can only:
a. solo out of inspect range of "everyone" (not very realistic)
b. start a campaign against it / support efforts to throw a monkey wrench in it whatever way possible.

So how about a 3rd option?

You're over-complicating things...
  1. Make a footnote in your addon description page saying:
    "If you're paranoid about GearScore and would like my addon to skip you: Equip _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _"
(or something to a similar effect)
  2. In your addon code when you are scanning someone's gear
    check the shirt slot.
If you find Common Gray Shirt there (or nothing if you prefer that),
just "shut down" and skip that guy/gal or mark them "opt-out" in the tooltip/sent data.
  3. Profit? An extremely uncomplicated way for people to opt-out of getting scored for 1 silver,
that costs you and your addon nothing from a coding perspective.
(and infact saves some cpu cycles and traffic)

Those that find the score-network useful can keep using it.
Those that don't want to be scored can opt out without installing anything or providing fake data.
RLs still know to skip un-scored players (or take the time to do a proper inspect).

Less drama?

This is exactly why I disabled BonusScanner when it was shipped with TitanPanel. Useless piece of code that eating CPU power.

No, it make sense just as much as I pointed out.
The first followup from first rule of universe: everything happens first time at some point. GearScore is just first such addon that made such impact. If author for whatever reason stop supporting it, I'm sure there will be lots of "Fan Updates", "successors", etc, etc.
And you are actually wrong. wow-heroes, taken for example, doing exactly the same - putting your score on axis of raid progress. It's just do it visually, instead of numerically.

This is exactly my point, and probably most others' points too. Most people don't care if Ulduar only needs 3850 for 10 man. They want 5000.
It is their own problem. I have absolutely no issues with it.
Instead of feeding GS-whores and ach-freaks, I whispering my relevant stats. If raid leader is not an idiot, I get place in raid.
If he/she are - well, not my problem, I can find another raid.

You made the same mistake as these people by labeling Ulduar as 3850 in the first place. It's nice to have a quick assessment of a player through a number that is relatively close to a content's needs. But the majority of players would rather be carried or don't want to give lower geared players a chance.
Lets' face it: WoW is asocial game. It provoke and encourage autism, prejudication and all this kind of stuff.
If you want to change it, you are addressing your posts to the wrong person.

While it has some merit that people are bad if they have a low GearScore, it's not always the case. Nor is it always the case with players who have high GearScores meaning they aren't bad. It's not difficult to carry people through most progression, and the carried players are the ones who are usually the most needy. AKA: GearScore 5k+ Flame Leviathan or you don't go.
I've answered this earlier.

TLDR: GearScore is used inappropriately in most cases, can be solved easily by adding GearScore blocking from the addon itself.
What exactly you are suggesting to block? Inspect frame? Don't make me laugh, pretty please...
You know yourself, it won't change anything.

You know it's not a matter of showing/not? Addon actually inspecting players, not asking if they want to be inspected/not.
As long as Blizzard allow player inspection, such addons will continue to exist.
It's clear that you completely missed the point or you are just trolling for attention. I'm wrong, you're right, etc.

@ Mirrikat45:

Thank you for the answer. I do hope you find ways to improve GearScore's negative stigma, and I apologize for the hostility I engaged in on this page.

Unfortunately it is required for the newest version of GearScore to work. So unless an option is put in that allows it to be disabled it is all or nothing.

bonusscanner & gearscore

I'll change what I said a few days ago. There appears to be a tight loop between gearscore and bonusscanner. With gearscore disabled bonusscanner looks like it's ok as for as FPS lag. When I re-enable gearscore, then there is FPS lag when comparing items. Note I have to hold down shift to compare.

I'll be looking into this. Also, do you have any other addons that change the tooltip? Because this could cause interference and it would be great to know if I could improve compatibility.

I have a couple that are worth mentioning

QuestHelper
ArkInventory (shows count from bag/bank of item)
Auctioneer

Would you be willing to turn them off and test if the Lag still exists? The one I'm thinking is most likely is ArkInventory.
