PlayerScore Overview
PlayerScore is the next evolution of GearScore and aims at providing a utility infinitely more useful then just the score of a player's equipment. PlayerScore provides raid leaders with a wealth of instant knowledge such as

Not only that, but this type of communication would be easily exploited. Finally the entire idea is really silly. I don't see you asking for the right to opt out of Credit Scores when you apply for loans. The fact of the matter is that if GearScore didn't measure the value of your gear people could always look at your item level, or your stats to do the same thing. This would not fix anything. EDIT: You currently have the option not to be scored anyways. If you see a PUG looking for a group with a minimum GearScore simply do not apply to that raid and the raid leader won't check your GearScore.

To continue the Creditors example, your score is not based on one sole company. There are 3 of them (not counting smaller unimportant ones) that contribute towards that score. An alternate solution would be to provide a way for users to adjust the scoring values themselves (but of course keeping defaults, seeing as how they're not unreasonable). This would take the "evil, judging author" out of the equation and the heat can be passed by "talk to the @$$hat, he can control the score values."
Also, there's nothing stopping the raid leader from doing a /who, grab a name, plug it into GearScore (even if they've never seen them) and getting a number popped out for them (from what I've seen, I did install just to make sure I had an idea of what I'm talking about here ) Afterwards, whispering everyone under the sun with "approved" GSs. This could actually become a burden to those with high scores as they get whispers every 10 min for some random scrub begging them to come.
That and I don't care. This is the internet after all. Now if we can keep this on this nice civil level without others trying to "Fan the Flames" (**COUGH**Angrysteel**COUGH**), there is a small chance that something may be thought up to keep both sides of the fence happy. This is what I'm shooting for. @Angrysteel But I will answer your question, after which you can continue to ridicule me in PMs. Yes, my crusade for scoring fairness will extend beyond GS, but seeing as this is the giant right now, further steps are more likely to succeed if something can be worked out from the source. Think of it like dropping antibiotics in the diseased water supply (poor example, but first thing I can think of for a comparison, work with me). That water becomes clean, but the irrigation system that has stemmed from it isn't. Eventually, the good water will flow down into them, purifying the entire system, but it will take time.

Downloaded the 3.1.13 yesterday. Love the new ranking for each possible build on items! That is awesome. However I have also found that anytime I hit "shift" to compare an item in my bag to one that I am wearing my frame-rate drops to to near disconnecting -- went from 30fps to 4fps
When I disable GearScore (logged back into the game in the exact same location) I had no frame rate loss at all. And the only addon I updated yesterday was GearScore. Keep up the awesome work. Hope this is something easily found. EDIT: I compared the zip files for 3.0.17 to the 3.1.13 and found that you added "bonus scanner" to the mix. This was the file that my memory monitor said was going nuts when I hit "Shift" but I had not realized that it was a new addition until I looked back at the Zip files. EDIT 2: I deleted both folders and reinstalled from the most recent zip (I see there were two uploaded with same number). This has helped, my frame rate only dropped from 32fps to 15fps. But still seeing a drop in FPS when comparing items, and it seems related to bonus scanner. Had two guildmates check and they both showed a 10pt FPS drop when comparing items using "shift" -- just wanted to include all the info Hope this info helps.

I will not go into the pro/vs GearScore argument for a simple reason.
It is essentially a social issue and those are by nature never-ending. It doesn't mean I don't have an opinion or side but I realize the futility of trying to argue what eventually comes down to social dynamics. That out of the way I do have something to add on the technical feasibility of a simple opt-out feature. Whether the author chooses to incorporate the method invalidating the need for gearscore blockers or database "corruptors" is up to him. Note that if you're paranoid about it you CAN opt-out of the blizzard armory (and any of the sites scraping it) for anything to do with gear. You just need to go 'nekid' before logging out each time or swap in whatever items you want armory to have you in (like that nice quill set). At this moment if for whatever reason (practical or ideological) you "hate" GS you can only: a. solo out of inspect range of "everyone" (not very realistic) b. start a campaign against it / support efforts to throw a monkey wrench in it whatever way possible. So how about a 3rd option?
Those that find the score-network useful can keep using it. Those that don't want to be scored can opt out without installing anything or providing fake data. RLs still know to skip un-scored players (or take the time to do a proper inspect). Less drama?

The first followup from first rule of universe: everything happens first time at some point. GearScore is just first such addon that made such impact. If author for whatever reason stop supporting it, I'm sure there will be lots of "Fan Updates", "successors", etc, etc. And you are actually wrong. wow-heroes, taken for example, doing exactly the same - putting your score on axis of raid progress. It's just do it visually, instead of numerically.
Instead of feeding GS-whores and ach-freaks, I whispering my relevant stats. If raid leader is not an idiot, I get place in raid. If he/she are - well, not my problem, I can find another raid.
If you want to change it, you are addressing your posts to the wrong person.
You know yourself, it won't change anything. |

@ AnrDaemon:
@ Mirrikat45: Thank you for the answer. I do hope you find ways to improve GearScore's negative stigma, and I apologize for the hostility I engaged in on this page. |

bonusscanner & gearscore
I'll change what I said a few days ago. There appears to be a tight loop between gearscore and bonusscanner. With gearscore disabled bonusscanner looks like it's ok as for as FPS lag. When I re-enable gearscore, then there is FPS lag when comparing items. Note I have to hold down shift to compare.
