Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

Ofc what I really want to see at the moment are my Nethershards and maybe valor and seal of inevitable fate. Yes. There's no other way to get that information.

Or can I turn it off somehow?

It's supposed to be run wrapped, but some chat mods break the wrapping. I just ignore it.

On character log-in, the mod executes the /played command. Is this how it tracks time played, so it must be ran every time? Or can I turn it off somehow? I just find it distracting (I know, weird). If there is a line in the code that I can comment off to make it stop, that would be great. Thanks again for the awesome mod.

I coded a workaround that actually works, but is imperfect, and I cannot do better. Wanna help ? Relay this topic on the US forums : http://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17612943218 and kindly bump.. @VonNegga: There's a very annoying issue with recipes, the function that used to return a proper link from the tooltip is broken, so it's not possible for me to provide the info I used to provide.. I'm still looking into a workaround. Edit: just double checked, actually this does not work if you click on a recipe from the chat frame, but it works if you mouse over a recipe in your bags. I'm having trouble getting both of my accounts to see each other. They are on the same battle.net account and I pre-authorized one character on each of the same faction. Both requested the other per the Readme's instructions and a ToC was supposedly sent - but yet each account can only see the characters on that account despite it being set to show all realms on all accounts. What am I doing wrong?

I noticed a bit of a quirk with the addon in terms of not listing the tooltip info (could be learned by, etc) for certain recipes at vendors and the auction house. It seems to work fine for some recipes but not others. For example, it works fine for the formula for Enchant Chest - Minor Mana, but no tooltip info is displayed for Formula: Minor Wizard Oil (including Item ID and iLvl info). I should add that as soon as you buy the recipe in question and then hover over it in the bag slot, then the tooltip information displays as it should. Hopefully this is enough information to help you find the cause. Anyway, keep up the great work. This is without a doubt the single most important addon I use.

Do you have any other addons interacting with crafting?
TradeSkillInfo comes to mind.
I've had a hard time telling it to get away from my tooltips and other places and generally shut up until called.

I had the same problem. Turning off addon Auctioneer (which has not been updated for 7.0) fixed the problem.

odd error

On a character which i had already opened everything up and populated the database, I noticed that it said the character had never visited its mailbox. So I went back and opened up the mailbox, while Altoholic was open on my screen. I closed it, and opened it again, and it still said 'never'. So I opened the mailbox again. After doing this a couple times, I opened up my addons in game (I use ACP) and look to make sure that the addon was enabled for this toon. The modules under Altoholic all said 'load on demand'. So I started clicking 'load'. When I got to guild, this error popped. This toon *does* have a guild (tho she's the only one in it), and the guild does have items, and I had already gone and populated hte database, and had seen the stuff from that guild on other toons.
