BarKeep  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 50400.03
by: Platykurtic [More]

BarKeep

** Now with support of bars that only appear on mouseover via the optional BarKeep_BarFader add-on. BarKeep_BarFader can be found in the 'Optional Files' tab. **

Here are the main features:

  • All the main action buttons can be configured to have from 1-12 buttons.
  • All the main action bars can be reconfigured to have up to 12 rows, so you can have 6 buttons x 2 rows, 3 buttons by 4 rows etc. This is done still using the Blizzard button code for compatibility.
  • All the main action bars can be scaled independently of one another.
  • Stance bar, possess bar, and pet bar can all be relocated to where the user wants them to be.
  • All bars can be hidden if you want, some using the Blizzard options from the interface menu, others using BarKeep.
  • The options are configured by a GUI accessed from /barkeep or /bk.
  • It uses an event / hook based structure for minimal CPU usage.
I want to say thanks to the previous developers of this CleanBar & CleanBarAdvanced since BarKeep would not be possible without their initial help.

So why use BarKeep?

It enables complete rearrangement and scaling of the Blizzard bars and so has some advantages over the traditional bar mod:
  1. It uses Blizzards buttons (and button code). So pretty much it's always compatible if Blizzard make any changes.
  2. Its really light in use - doesn't use a lot of memory and CPU cycles.
  3. It seems pretty stable as a result of the above.
  4. It'll work with cooldown, ranged mods that work with Blizzard buttons and also ButtonFacade with another small mod.
Commands:

/barkeep - show the config screen.
/bk - show the config screen.

FAQ:
  • I can't see all the bars when I first use the addon. All I see are the '+'s that enable the bar placement? - Use the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab in the interface menu to set which bars are active or not, just as you would the Blizzard bars.
  • How do I set the Key Bindings? - Use the Blizzard Key Bindings interface to set the bindings for all the bars.
  • How do I lock the actions on the bars? - Use the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab in the interface menu to lock the Blizzard bars.
  • How do I permanently show the empty buttons? - Use the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab in the interface menu to show the empty button grid.
Future Plans:
  • Bug fixes once identified.
  • A BarKeep_XP optional module to manage the XP bar.
  • A reconfiguration of the mod to easily allow for additional layout types for the bars. This should be fairly easy to do, it'll just require a some coding in BarKeep.lua and a change to the configuration screen, but could take some time as I'll make the changes slowly and test carefully.

Known Issues:
  • None.

Hmm ... that's interesting ... Way way back in the day I had issues with the way I linked one of those buttons to the BarKeep frame. It would move around under Blizzard code otherwise (to much frustration). It's possibly being shifted to where you can't see it (say off-screen for example). When I tidied up the BarKeep frames sizes to fix your previous issue I may have broken this.

To help correct this can you please post me the following line in BarKeep.lua in 30000.14 (I've since deleted my past versions):
Around line 390 there should be something like
MultiBarRight:SetPoint("TOPLEFT", "BarKeepMultiBarRightFrame", "TOPLEFT", 0, 0)
Thanks!

  • BarKeep has no interaction with porting. It doesn't use porting events, and has no and never had any code to manage anything during a port and I've ported a bunch and never seen this. The only code that might run as a result of a port won't hide a complete bar.
  • I cannot replicate the issue at all. On both characters with lots of the same mods as you and on my test character. And I tried hard to get this error this weekend.
Now I could solve by renaming the names of all the bars (I do this on one or two to manage other Blizzard bugs), but that'd be a the expense of a lot of additional code and would probably introduce another bug cycle (and start to turn the mod into Dominos and Dominos is great at that already), so its probably better we determine which mod is causing this. So ...

Are there any mods that do things to that side of the screen? You could try to disable them one at a time and see if the issue goes away. Some that spring to mind from your list are ButtonFacade (as that changes the buttons - probably not an issue), SlideBar (it slides from that side correct? I'd start with this) and maybe FuBar (based on issues with Titan in the past). Any of these updated around the same time (SlideBar comes with BeanCounter and a couple of other mods and can be disabled for testing with '/nsb off')?
I'll play around with the different addons, like the ones you mentioned. I've been reverting back each release to 3.0000.14 as I have had no issues with that at all.

I'll also switch out omnicc to cooldown text timer to see if that changes anything also.

I'll let you know how it goes.

It's consistent. I believe it's one of the right side bars that vanishes.

Re: Vehicles

But I did find another.. when exiting a vehicle one of my bars does not re-appear after exiting the vehicle. I reloaded the ui.. entered vehicle, left vehicle, and bar is not reappearing (only 1 bar out of the 5).
That would be a strange one - I looked into the code but couldn't see anything so I'll test it tonight to confirm either way.
When I change from one profile to another I have to reset my bar locations. I am not sure if this is with Barkeep, Fluidframes or Too Many Addons. However I do think I have had issues with Barkeep not remembering where I positioned the frames with out these other addons enabled. Any thought on this one? I love the mod but having to reposition the bars frequently is a tough one.
BarKeep stores its settings by character, so as you move from one character to another everything could change depending on how you set it up. I have a fairly complex set-up and the bars don't move ever (for a character) so I'd suspect the shifting is due to FluidFrames or a conflict between the two mods (as FluidFrames allows the player to move the buttons around also). Is there any way to stop FluidFrames from managing the bars?

Vehicles

Hi, 1 button issue fixed.. thanks!

But I did find another.. when exiting a vehicle one of my bars does not re-appear after exiting the vehicle. I reloaded the ui.. entered vehicle, left vehicle, and bar is not reappearing (only 1 bar out of the 5)

It's consistent. I believe it's one of the right side bars that vanishes.

Issues with mod

First of all I would like to say I love this mod. There is just nothing better for the size. I am having issues with this mod and possibly a couple of other addons I use. The ones I think are causing issue is too many addons and fluidframes.

I thank ya greatly.

Rob

Edit: A note that I just thought of. After I reposition the bars I do always reset the bars in fluid frames just to makes sure it is not saving the position that the bars appeared in after the profile reload. Just wanted to point that out.

Thanks for the report - I'll look into the issue post haste.

On all the additions: I'll take a couple of days to actually play the game then early next week I'll roll in the 'one bag' code from Blood Druid and issue a release. Then I'll get started on the 'bar fading' extension.

Tapping the 1 key on the keyboard gives no problem.

Really really wtb an hidden pet bar visible only on mouseover so i can finally use this instead of my huge bar addon

Also, maybe, will it ever be possible to have the main bar to switch to the possess bar instead of 2 distinct bars ?
