Muted Sounds - Combat  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r18
by: sp00n [More]

******
I don't play anymore, you should check out this addon instead:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html
******

Updated for 4.3.4

This file removes all* combat sound files from the game so that you can clearly hear your addon sounds (and also boss speeches!).
I tried to filter out all boss emotes and speeches/events in this version. Mistakes may happen of course, but I'm quite happy with it.

If you want 100% muted ingame sound, check out the other file here.

Installation:
Extract the .rar into /Data directly so that you have a /Data/Sound directory.

* Note:
It may not remove 100% of the combat sounds, especially if Blizzard decided to add a new spell or alter existing ones. Some sounds are pesky little buggers that hide somewhere else. If you identify them, let me know, and I will add them to this file.

This mod was inspired by silverwind's Bossmod Sound Fix (while game is muted). It does however not rely on files with zero byte content but on "real" muted valid sound files (ogg and wav). The zero byte sound files gave me problems while playing addon sounds, where half of them just didn't play.
I don't have this problem with valid files.

Changelog:
[r18]
- Blizzard partly reversed the changes in 4.3.3 for patch 4.3.4. Happy times.

[r17]
- Patch 4.3.3 required a rather significant update

[r16]
- No more Deathy burping sounds!

[r15]
- The fishing bobber sounds were accidently muted in the last revisions. They are now audible once again.

[r14]
- Identified and added 114 WAV sound files, which WoW now seems to prefer over OGG files.

[r13]
- Added a few missing files.
- File now available again on WoWInterface

[r12]
- Updated to patch 4.3.2. There might a few bugs.
- File wasn't available on WoWInterface

[r11]
- Updated to patch 4.3 final

[r10]
- Updated to PTR patch 4.3

[r9]
- Removed Druid of the Flame death sounds
- Removed Druid of the Flame scorpion transformation sounds
- Removed various explosion-like sounds (exploding fireballs, jumping cats impacts and for whatever other spells they may used that)

[r8]
- Updated for patch 4.2

[r7]
- Updated for patch 4.1
- Removed the Singing Sunflower sounds

[r6]
- Removed new Ring of Frost sounds
- Removed new RockWorm sounds (Pebble, Corborus)
- Finally found the Valiona&Theralion Twilight Zone sound!
- Hopefully found the Cho'gall phase2 sound!
- Removed the sound emote from Nefarian's Dominion spell (heroic mode only). He gets kind of spammy there.

[r5]
- Removed the party member targetting sounds
- Removed two "roar" sounds (Yeti and Mammoth)

[r4]
- Updated for Cataclysm!
- Re-enabled a sound file which is used by Deadly BossMods

[r3]
- Sounds for ability used removed
- Aggro sounds removed
- "DeathImpact" sounds removed (fallover sounds)

[r2]
- Horn of Winter removed
- Fan of Knives removed
- Some warrior ability removed (Raging Blow?)
- Few more files, no clue which exactly

[r1]
- Initial release

Todo:
- Identify any missing spells left since patch 4.3.2

Optional Files (0)

very useful addon sp00n. as a fellow rogue, do you have any idea what sound file is used for rupture impact? i'd like to re-enable it as it's useful to know if rupture has been dodged

Unfortunately no. It doesn't show up in the DBCEntries file, so it's most likely a generic sound file which is a PITA to find.

Great addon, loving it. Not being able to hear DBM and vent at the same time has been very irritating.

Pebble still makes noise. The noise like the grinding of tiny teeth. It is a terrible, awful sound. And my tank was VERY reluctant to put the little pathing-bugged bastard away.

Ring of Frost makes noise too, but it's just like someone turning on a tap, not nearly as bad

Excellent news.
However no reason to drop this mod, at least for me. I just got used to it too much by now to go back.

Maybe someone can help me, I deleted the Clearcasting Soundfile to still get informed about my clearcasts in combat, but I now get the sound on every clearcast in my raid. Is there a way just to activated my clearcasts and mute all the others ?

No.

You could however use MSBT or PowerAuras and the like to play a sound file when your clearcasting procs.

I really like the idea of your addon but the only combat sound I would want to keep is the sound of someone (rogue, druid, nightelf or NPC) stealthing near me. Could I exclude that sound from being muted by renaming the sound file with something like this "_" at the beginning?

And I looked through your soundfiles, I found vanish but nothing with "stealth" in it. Well, there are many files ...

Yeah, just rename or delete the sound files you don't want. Just remember to fully restart the game after doing so, as the files will only be read into memory if you exit WoW and open it again.

Stealth and Vanish are both in the Spells folder:
Data\Sound\Spells\Stealth.ogg
Data\Sound\Spells\Stealth.wav
Data\Sound\Spells\Vanish.ogg
Data\Sound\Spells\Vanish.wav

Not sure if that covers all stealth effects though (like Shadowmeld).

First I was nearly shocked by the silence. Then I missed footsteps - no problem to get them back. I'm still looking for shadowmeld though.

You did a great job. Could you just add a little info about the sound folders to the addon description? There is:

Ambience: hm ... not shure what this is
Character: character/race related sounds, footsteps, emotes, error msg ...
Creatures: 1097 folders containing sounds of NPCs
Doodad: whats that?
Effects: 70 death sounds ... I didn't know there was more than one^^
Emitters: toy train and water sounds?
Interface: unnecesssary annoyances^^
Items: sounds you hear when equipping an item or when using it in combat?
Spells: as it says .. most combat noise seems to be here
Universal: flight sounds
Vehicles: some ... this can't be all vehicle related stuff?

warning: warden gets you DC'ed when you rename anything in the Data/Sound directories.

\Sound\event\EVENT_PvZ_Lalala.ogg

To make sure, also copy .wav files with the same name there (instead of .ogg obviously).
Just take any .ogg file and any .wav file from my addon and simply copy it six times, then rename them to the file names mentioned above. Do not create new empty files with 0 byte content. That won't work.

Probably gonna include it in the next release. Originally I left them out intentionally, but it's gone a bit out of control lately with the Sunflower, at least in my guild (YES I'M LOOKING AT YOU TOYO!).
