Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- This concludes the conversion of all DataStore modules to make them compatible with all versions.

- DataStore_Containers: Fixed COMMON_NUM_BAG_SLOTS to be NUM_BAG_SLOTS + 1 for retail, and NUM_BAG_SLOTS for non-retail, instead of the opposite.

- Fixed an issue where sorting the bags while the merchant frame is opened would trigger a slow down (Thanks Belazor !)
- DataStore_Containers: Removed an invalid test when closing a bank frame.
- Events : fixed a Lua error when a tracked item like an egg actually hatches.

Visit mailbox and retrieve mail. The most sane way. Unless you want to loose it, however.

I don't care about losing my mail on throwaway alts. I've checked all my important characters, I just want the pop-up on every login/reload to be gone.

Then delete your "throwaway alts" from Altholic (Summary screen - Right-click the appropriate character), and disable Altoholic addon for them (Login screen - click "Addons" button, "Configure addons for: choosen alt", disable "DataStore" plugin for him/her).

edit: Just for S&G I just went through all my characters on all my servers, and emptied all their mailboxes. And I'm still getting the alert.

You can see for which character the alert triggered from Activity pane the alert directing you to.
If it's indeed not have any characters with expiring mail, you can always delete the DataStore saved variables (WTF/<YourAccount>/SavedVariables/DataStore_Mail.lua, if i'm not mistaken) and start anew.
Don't forget to backup the files you delete, in case addon authour would want them for investigation.
Since Altoholic does not hold any historical information, it is safe to undergo such action.

While I am on one account, I constantly have people want to know if I can make such and such from a character on another account who may not be logged in. I use the same WoW installation to run both my accounts simultaniously on the same computer. I have tried to link the two accounts together, however, I am finding it to be rather buggy. On one character, it is showing the same toons belonging to it's own account for the default account and for the linked account. If you could provide the user with the capability to link an actual path to the nesessary files contained within the wtf directory, it would make things much simpler. Thank you. TPranara

To give you an idea of what to expect in the future, here's what's going on behind the curtain: - Account sharing: many requests revolve around the fact that it's a bit slow. Although it will always remain a rather slow process, I have worked on reducing the sizes of the DB. For 12 chars, DataStore used to take 4.2Mb on my machine. It's now gone down to 2.5-2.6Mb, which is a pretty nice improvement. - Calendar: The calendar is the second biggest topic for which I am receiving feedback. It will get a review too, but keep in mind that it's not necessarily easy to test certain things (like multiple time zones, etc..), so it's a part I consider pretty touchy. I do however want to address certain login issues through the implementation of a small pane that I currently call the "Login Report", where you'll be informed of all the events that took place while you were logged off (ie: mail expiry, calendar events, profession cd, etc..). - Modularity: I am slowly making the addon more modular, and each tab will become a LoD module on its own, as it is already the case with the achievements tab, and I'll also shuffle a few things around, but it's too early to say how things will look like in two months as it really depends on the new UI features Blizzard decides to add (and on the new API functions too). - Professions: If things turn out as I expect, professions should get their own tab for some cool new features. I really can't make any promise though, as it will depend on several factors. Etc.. As you can see, there's still a lot to do... and that's without mentioning all the features I intend to add in Odyssey as well, altough this one won't get a public release before at least a month or two after Cataclysm. I have 2 tailors. One of them knows the recipe for Merlin's Robe. The tooltip tells me he has it, which is fine, and it shows the other tailor that could learn it, which is also fine. It also shows 2-3 other toons as being able to learn it (none of them are tailors). Another issue. A LW I have, has the Lunar Eclipse Robe pattern. It correctly shows that he knows it, but displays 2-3 other toons as also knowing it (none of them LW'ers, oddly enough, it's the same toons involved as above) Any ideas, cos I'm at a loss as tho how to fix it o0 Thanks Edit: used the options to delete all my toons, logged them in one at a time, opened all tradeskill windows, and the problem persists :/ Last edited by eldavido : 08-10-10 at 12:32 PM.
